    So pleased to hear that you have a view on overhead checks. I see so many videos of horses in the USA with heads strapped up and hollow backs and unhappy eyes.

    I'm so glad I found your videos. This one is excellent. You explained everything so fully and answered all my questions without having to ask. Loved you explained the dynamics of how each piece works and how it involves the horse's movements. I have 3 rescue mini's I got about 6 mos. ago and I want to start doing some driving with them. Coincidentally, my little black gelding I named "Rocky" because he was the stud from the herd of 37 mini's he came from. I will be following your teachings as they are excellent. Thank you so much.

    I loved you video and you explained everything clearly to someone just starting out with harness minis, but, I did find it hard to see the harness as you were explaining each part because of the dark clothes you have on. The same goes for seeing the harness fitted to you dark horse. It was hard for me to see very well... I hope you will do another video sometime with a lighter horse. It would be very appreciated. All the best to you and thank you for your time and effort.

    I love your videos, Kendra. Also love your book on miniatures--I highly recommend it as a great info source on minis. A couple of small points regarding your video presentation. If you used a lighter colored mini in such demos, we would be able to see the harness easier as you put it on the horse. Rocky is so dark that it is hard to tell exactly where the saddle sits in relation to the end of his mane, precisely where his girth sits, etc. Also, as you hold up the various saddles and point out their characteristics, it would help if you would angle your body so that the harness parts aren't against your dark outfit. If you were to stand slightly to the side, and show the harness parts using your lovely building walls as the backdrop, I think we'd be able to see the harness more effectively. These are not dealbreakers, but being aware of these videography details would make your content easier to grasp. I found I had to keep stopping the video, then squint to see harness details against your dark clothes, and positioning of the harness on the dark horse, before I felt I could move on. Thanks for considering my suggestions. I greatly appreciate your knowledge, and your straightforward and positive teaching style!

    I really hope that you will continue to do videos very very informative could you also give us newbies a place to shop for harness and accessories and maybe a reasonable price range for pleasure driving. I have a quadriplegic daughter who loves minis so we now have 2 and I am starting training this summer. Only for pleasure not showing. Any help tips tricks exercises etc. to “bomb proof them would be so appreciated. Thanks for your time and attention to detail.

    Hi,
    a friend referred me to your channel,I'm completely new to driving and I'm trying to teach my miniature.
    I was wondering since a check is required for showing can I leave it fairly loose like I do for practice or would I get docked points if I did that in the show ring?
    If you could give me some pointers it'd be much appreciated,thanks.

      There is no rules as to how a check is to be adjusted - it should just be wherever it is comfortable for your horse. In some classes it doesn't even specify that it must be attached to the bit.
      I start every horse without a check, and only introduce one shortly before a show for them to become accustomed to it. That way they are able to learn to balance and carry themselves without it's interference.

    Ohh, I was happy you didn't have a check, or at least I didn't see it, and then you said you do need a check in the show ring. So sad. It's so not necessary and even forbidden here. For about more than 100 years. It's considered cruel AND dangerous and I agree. But I'm happy to hear you most of the time drive without. A well trained pony or horse doesn't need a check.

      @ponyabouttown4981 Před 7 lety +5

      Jesus, lay off the checks. Someone read Black Beauty too many times. Yes, in the USA if you are showing a mini in sanctioned shows you must have a check rein. It can, of course, be adjusted so loosely that is does nothing.

    • @Saartje05
      @Saartje05 Před 7 lety +1

      +Ponyabout Town Uhm no. You see check reins all over. Even on draft horses. I own horses for decades already. I know what they do to a horse. So do most people, except, as usual, for the USA where they think they're so great. Yeah they are. Great in being incredibly stupid. And if they do nothing as you say, then why use them...
