    Your videos are great. Thanks for making them. How much play should you have in the traces basically how tight or loose should your traces be? Is there like a standard inches or something? I have a jog cart but it does not have a single tree do you think that makes a difference in how you adjust the traces? Thanks so much.

    • @MiniatureHorsemanship
      @MiniatureHorsemanship  Před 7 lety +1

      The traces should be tight when the horse is in draft - that is, pulling the cart. Not having a singletree doesn't change how you adjust it, but it does mean you'll want to watch that your horse doesn't get rubs or sore spots on their shoulders where the breast collar sits. The singletree's movement allows the horse to move more freely without the breastcollar sliding on their chest, but for light driving you probably won't notice any issues.

    When attaching the trace to the single tree, should it be as tight at it can go,just comfortably tight or have a little slack in the trace ? My trace has multiple holes and I just want to make sure it's fitting properly on my horse once I start driving her

      When the horse is in draft - pulling the cart - it should be tight as that's how they move the cart forward, by pushing into the breast collar which is attached the traces. When they're standing the traces can have a little slack, so long as it's gone when they move off and start pulling.

    I noticed straps on the swingle tree. Is this an absolute must? I have taken lessons on driving and harnessing and yet I don’t recall ever seeing straps in the swingle tree. They may have been there but it was never mentioned or I wasn’t astute enough to notice. Awesome tutorial:)!

      It's a good idea yes, a safety feature in case on trace came loose, keeping it more stable and preventing it from being able to touch the horse. Some carts don't come with the keeper straps, but small dog collars work well!

    thank you so much!! My harness has a collar instead of a breastplate but this and the first video has answered so many questions! (I am very much a beginner at driving and training my mini mare at the same time that I am learning) I thought I had missed a strap is why my cart shafts, I have an easy entry cart, could raise on a hill/bump but the harness did not come with the wrap strap (it and the cart were both gifts), is there a way to make or add one to my harness? anyways, now I know I was harnessing correctly aside from the saddle. Im sure my little Princess will appreciate mommy's new ability to harness the right way, again thank you so much!!!

    Hi there thanks for these videos they have helped me a lot. My cart is a little different though. The swingle tree just has loops on the ends. Do I put the traces through these loops and fold them over on to themselves and then back to the hook on top of the cart? Thanks for any help.This is the cart I have miniatureponiesie.webs.com/black%20gig.JPG

    • @MiniatureHorsemanship
      @MiniatureHorsemanship  Před 8 lety +2

      When you have loops like that, it's probably best to get some quick release shackles to make it easier to attach your traces - you can also get traces with a loop on the end instead of the slots which might work better with your set up.
