He wasn't the captain, just the first non white on the national team. Also in South Africa there is a cultural and ethnic group called "coloureds" which is separate from "black" though there are sometimes blurred lines between the two. Chester was coloured.
@@ae_neo34 no he wasnt, Errol Tobias played fly half in the 80's for the Boks, and Chester Williams uncle Avril Williams also played in that era.
