    I do not currently use pads. I lead worship with a keyboard. I would love to be able to fill out the songs a bit and I thought I would try pads to help. Thank you for putting this youtube together. I am excited to watch and see what I can learn.

    Man! There's an absolutely awesome free app called Infinite Pads by Happy Little Apps that has around 6 inbuilt sounds, all keys, all fade in and out with EQ and volume control from a phone on a holder that attaches to my mic stand and I can literally tap the key I want, swap from organ to Lush, and all seamlessly. It's absolutely rad for any worship guitarist!!!

    Another option for fading pads in and out is adding a delay pedal. Set up a loud delay with a lot of repeats and leave it on the whole time. Ease back on the volume and you will hear the pad continue for a few seconds while you switch to the new key and fade it in. The important thing is to put the delay AFTER the volume so you don't kill the echoes. Digital delay can be expensive, so most of us probably wouldn't buy one just for that, but many electric guitarists already have more delay effects than they need!

    I have wondered about adding pads to our setup for some time now and what you presented seems to be a nice straight forward method. However, we have a limited number of inputs on our FOH mix board so I'm wondering it I can mix the pad's DI box out with the keys' DI box out to a single FOH input without causing an issue, either sonically or electrically? What would I use to mix the two signals?

    • @LeadingWorshipWell
      @LeadingWorshipWell  Pƙed rokem +1

      I don't think that would be a problem. The pads sit in the background so they're barely audible - you should be good.

      @jhaggard Pƙed rokem

      So after a good night's sleep, I remembered my amp has Bluetooth. I can link my phone to the amp and use the worship pads app on my phone. I can't wait to try it!

  • @Son-of-Thucydides
    @Son-of-Thucydides Pƙed 3 lety

    So please forgive my ignorance. How does one pre-program what the pads plays? Is it first necessary to preprogram the song beforehand so that the right chords are played, key changes, and so forth? Then, you are essentially playing along with what is on the app, right?

    • @LeadingWorshipWell
      @LeadingWorshipWell  Pƙed 3 lety +1

      No worries! A pad doesn't have any chord changes - it just drones in the key that you're playing in. So, you can play whatever chords you want over top of it. There's no need to program anything. Just pick what key you want to play in, fire up the pad audio, and play the song like you normally would 👊

    I noticed that the 1/8 to 1/4 cable is a stereo audio cable. Does the instrument cable need to be 1/4 stereo audio cable as well or is the instrument cable mono? I use my iPad and use the Onsong App which can attach a sound file to each song. That way each song I play has the pads in the desired key for that song.

    • @LeadingWorshipWell
      @LeadingWorshipWell  Pƙed 3 lety

      The instrument cable is mono. I just used a stereo 1/8 to 1/4 because that's what I had laying around.

    Nice video and very easy set up for pads, thank you for sharing. I'd like to take the pads to a higher level, for example if we are playing a song on a C chord, we play the C pad, but when we play the G chord, I'd like to change the pad to G, then back to C, I mean, I'd like to have some freedom to change the pad note on some part of songs (to avoid having the same note all over the song). Do you know how can this be achieved without expensive stuff?. Thank you in advance.

    • @LeadingWorshipWell
      @LeadingWorshipWell  Pƙed 2 lety +2

      At that point you're not running a pad - you're looking for a click/backing track set up. The purpose of pads is that they DON'T change notes. They are purposefully designed to be played under every chord in a key. They aren't even meant to be heard/noticed while you're playing. They sit in the background underneath what you're playing to "fill in the cracks."

  • @lichlich123

    Will ambient pads work for a song that has chords out of it's key? For example a song that is in key of C, but has an E or Fm chord (i understand chords out of key are usually added for harmonic interest). Would the key of C pad sound seem to clash for that bar or beat that the out of key chord is played?
