I have seen lots of divorce in my family and extended family despite temple marriages. I am a RM and my mission presidents were awesome example. During COVID they divorced, this shook me and I really struggled with the couple I looked up to and hoped to become, I just realized that no one is safe from divorce and it takes active work to keep a good relationship. We have had our ups and downs but have benefited a lot from counseling during the good and bad. Great pod!

I go to a mid-singles ward and there are lots of divorced people in their 30's and 40's there. In my own family there are only 2 divorces out of the 11 couples of aunts and uncles, so you're definitely not going to see the average everywhere. And then there's me who is eternally single for some reason... 🤷♀

What’s not taken into account here is that most members of the church do not stay active. If we were better at keeping our members active we would have taken over the culture a long time ago.

80 percent of temple work will have to be redone in the molinium . Why ? Well we try hard but get the research wrong some times and ... even if we think we are doing it correctly the woman were doing it for were cheated on or beat or were arranged married or they were the ones cheating or beating up the guy . The divorce rate is so high . And when they do senses recording they ask if your married . Then check it vs 10 Yeats ago . They don't ask if you were married 3 times . Divorce rate is over 78 percent if you stay married for over 40 years . Sorry to be so negative. The most important quality in a woman isn't her testimony or how hot she is or how good a cook . All important but the most important quality is Loyalty. Alot of good her testimony and good cooking dose you when she is cheating on you .

My husband and I will celebrate 45 happy years this coming June. We married in the SL Temple when I was 19 and hubby a 23-year-old returned missionary. We have four kids and ten grands. We've had ups and downs, but our commitment is ETERNAL, not just until it gets hard, or we could have called it quits years ago. Not perfect but no regrets. Love your show, and I have shared it with my YA kids.
I was married in the Temple to my hottie over 50 years ago. 7 children, 19 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren. I only watch Ward Radio because I'm immature and it's informative and entertaining.

What is missing from this conversation is the fact that there are more single adults than married adults in the Church-a shift, from decades ago-and something we tend to quietly sweep under the rug.
Lol I love how you slid in, " quietly swept under the rug" in the typical victim sounding way. You see, that statement right there shows why so many do not have a spouse. Who wants to be with someone who constantly searches for the negative. Way to mark yourself there.
Starting our families and having children and living within good communities that help support each family.
To go with Cardon's studies, the same stat goes to LDS parents of disabled children. Secular couples have a higher percentage of divorce if their child has special needs due to the demands of care, stress, etc .
Must be something about viewing the special need person with divine worth.
As a special needs mom myself, I completely agree. I see the pressure on the families both LDS and non-LDS and some are vastly different pertaining to the marriage and also the outlook on the children’s futures and eternal worth.
"Historically Black Protestant" - I'm guessing African-Methodist Episcopal Church, for example. Politically liberal in the last half of the 20th century and since then, but socially very conservative.
As a member of the Church, I admit that I frankly got seriously blessed by finding my wife. I was inactive at the time and she was a Catholic. But I could never promise her priest that I would raise the children in the Catholic faith because of my testimony of the Book of Mormon. We met in September, started dating in October, I proposed in January, and we got married in June. The wedding would have been sooner, but we wanted my children from a previous marriage to take part. Thirty three years later, and we are stronger together than we ever have been. Seriously blessed.

One secret to our marriage success is eternal perspective. The idea of separation is introduced at the wedding everywhere else, so why not some other time than death?
I use the term “the eternal family model” because it implies from Adam. It’s defended by TFPTTW (proclamation) as well as a multitude of conference references. The eternal family is patterned after God, or also known as Made in his image.
2:23 I had an interesting experience yesterday waiting up on the stand to share my testimony. I was looking out at the congregation when this gorgeous woman with a pencil skirt and long wavy hair walked in. She caught my eye in an instant, and then I realized that was my wife of 20 years. That might have something to do with it. That and the fact that women in the church learn to be selfless and kind and not have enmity toward men and men learn the same thing.

Sidenote - i don't take issue with the claim that this is a high demand religion. Jesus always invited others to take action. If people are thinking that they can join and chill on the back row, you better prepare yourself for a dose of reality. As stated, the blessings are also high yield. I embrace the demand and thank God for the opportunity to be witness of so many miracles or simple manifestations from the Spirit. Wise men build their house upon the rock!
I would be curious to know what the % of members who have been divorced is. I know sooo many 20-something’s that “picked wrong” the first time but a couple years later were able to remarry and are seemingly much happier and more stable in their current relationships.

I'm single, never married. Too chicken to jump into marriage merry-go-round. When my mom was widowed, she refused to even think about marrying again. She had a hard enough time getting used to my dad and didn't want to bother with another.

I divorced my husband and we got remarried. Truly the Lords hand was in that. So blessed ❤
Our first date was April 20, we were engaged May 12, (my birthday) and July 30, we will be celebrating 30 years of marriage. AND we have never had an argument. Do we disagree? Most definitely! But we decided before we got married that there were things worth fighting for, but nothing worth fighting over. I have been happier in these last 30 years than in my entire life previously. And according to my husband (who, after all, is the only one who matters), I was pretty hot when we got married. Age happens to us all, but he still thinks I'm beautiful. Just sayin'.

But please, delve deeper into why Jesus Christ didn't at all mention eternal marriages...if He has done so elsewhere, i apologize.
It seems to be one of those esoteric things, but LDS is not the only faith that believes marriage to be eternal. Greek Orthodox and other eastern catholic/orthodox traditions also view marriage as eternal, which suggests to me that it was indeed taught, it’s just not plainly stated in existing biblical scripture.
Some suggest that the passage in Matthew..? Where the Sadducees are asking about who is married in the resurrection, and Jesus says “they are neither given in marriage nor married” (meaning there won’t be weddings during the resurrection; women are “given” in marriage and men do the “marrying,”). I have heard some point that out as evidence that perhaps eternal marriage had been being taught, and the Sadducees were aware of it (they were a group that also denied the reality of resurrection). Others use that passage as evidence that no one will be married at all, and marriage is a time-only thing.
Tom Roberts is a former eastern apostolic(?) catholic priest who converted to the CoJCoLdS maybe six years ago? I heard him mention eternal marriage on an episode of Leading Saints from last august. (Also the belief in theosis/divinization, but that was on a NT lecture on the BYU studies CZcams channel)
I’ve also looked up the Greek Orthodox and Byzantine orthodox beliefs, but it seems to not be widely taught…? Or at least the laypeople are maybe not as aware of the eternal aspect as the clergy 🤷♀️ LDS aren’t the only ones who believe in eternal unions though!

@@EriPages Tom Roberts was on an episode of the Leading Saints podcast from August ‘23 where he discussed the belief that marriage was eternal in his former faith, along with other things (He says he was a catholic priest, but his old linkdin profile says something like Eastern Apostolic(?) catholic… not Roman Catholic, which is a western tradition and definitely doesn’t believe marriage is eternal).
I discovered the Greek Orthodox belief that marriage is eternal on the Greek Orthodox wiki, while looking up their beliefs on confirmation and baptism. The eternal aspect of marriage was a pleasant surprise!
I’ve accidentally come across comments from members of other eastern catholic/orthodox beliefs about marriage while searching for other things, but I remember one question from a Byzantine layperson asking if others’ priests taught that marriage was eternal, or if it was just theirs.
So, again, I don’t think it’s something that’s necessarily understood clearly by the laypeople, but the clergy seem to have at least been taught this aspect. The Greek Orthodox wiki is easy enough to find, as is Tom Roberts’ episode on Leading Saints.

It is promised that all blessings will be given to those who qualify for the blessing. If it doesn't happen in this life then, if I understand correctly, you will be given the blessing during the millennium, before judgement.

On my mission I spent some time with some incredible people they were single and it was only then as I sat with them that I realized just how hard it is. My intent was to just clarify doctrine for Lucille that it's not true that she just won't get a spouse.

I just get tired when the 35 yr old bishop in my ward keeps saying it. Hes married to a VERY beautiful fit sweet feminine woman who would be a delight and light for any man to come home to. He really has no idea how brutal it is. I come home to nothing after church. And nothing every day of the week. No light. No reprieve. No sexual outlet. lol. Hes swimming in success and would be in a massive state of depression if she left him and he was alone but hes quick to tell us single men that we will have what he has in the next life. Living like he is, is almost like cheating the test of life in comparison. His life is a layup . Handsome, loads of healthy kids, never lost his job, incredible wife, beautiful wife, surrounded by strong Lds family. I dont want him to not have that but I also dont think he realizes how blessed he is when he kinda brushes off our massive challenge
Hubby and I were engaged 3 months after meeting. We had to wait a year to get married in the temple because he was a recent convert. That was in 1990. We hit 34 years this year. 5 kids and 5 grandkids and we went through a literal hell. My only advice is hold on to your covenants and ignore two things. 1. The world will tell you what you are lacking- they lie. 2. Cinderella was also a lie along with every Hallmark movie or stupid romance novel. Me. or Mrs. Perfect does not exist. Lastly, divorce only happens because of selfishness.

So in Jewish law a brother in law would take a woman to wife if she didn’t have any children with her first husband. The children from this second marriage would belong to the first husband. Hence they would raise up seed into their brother. Why would that be the case if the first marriage wasn’t eternal?
The key word was identify. If a person remarries, would they still identify as being divorced. I think that 9% number is low. I think it is higher. I know a number of divorced members.

Faithfull LDS women will be allowed to get married /sealed after they die. Why couldnt that same thing happen to other faithful couples who simply grow apart and want to be with someone else for Eternity.? Please tell me if any prophet has ever said specifically that if you get sealed on earth, that the person is the only person you can be with in eternity.

I hear what you are saying regarding eternal marriage, but you pulling out the greek doesn't actually prove your point lol It's important to know the original language that Scripture was written in in order to get a better understanding of it, but sorry to say, your point wasn't proven. What about before the resurrection? You mention that Christ was saying, "In the resurrection, you can't make new marriages." What about before that? The goal of marriage is to get your spouse to Heaven! Once you are there, there is no need for the marriage. St. Paul even says that marriage is not in heaven - "Thus a married woman is bound by law to her husband as long as he lives; but if her husband dies she is discharged from the law concerning the husband." So according to your faith, if either the husband or wife dies way before the other, are they still married?? That confuses me lol Can they remarry? Would that mean that he or she would have 2 eternal spouses?
Eastern catholic/orthodox traditions also believe marriage is eternal. LDS aren’t the only ones! Greek Orthodox, Byzantine, Eastern catholic traditions….. many believe marriage is eternal.

He was a guest on an August ‘23 episode of the Leading Saints podcast and discussed the belief in eternal marriage from his former tradition.
Look up the sacrements/mysteries on the Greek Orthodox wiki; you will find marriage listed as believed to be eternal. I have also found comments from members from Byzantine orthodox traditions asking if the eternal aspect was something others priests taught, or just theirs. So, I don’t think it’s necessarily widely understood by the laypeople, but the priests/clergy have that understanding.
@@gingersnaps215 Greek Orthodox is different from Catholic, so what they believe about a certain subject doesn’t affect what the Catholic Church teaches. I’ve also seen and read that Eastern Catholics in union with Rome don’t believe in eternal marriage. I’m not an expert on this particular subject other than I know that in Catholicism, the Church established by Christ, we don’t believe in eternal marriage because Jesus teaches against that. All I’m saying is, saying that Jesus was talking about no one gets married in heaven does not take away from what he also said, that there is no marriage in heaven, period.

I was merely saying that Tom Roberts, who was a priest from an eastern catholic tradition before her joined the LDS church a few years ago, called himself catholic on this podcast and also said that he understood marriage to be eternal as a priest in that faith. Go listen to him and get it straight from the guy who actually went through the ecumenical training in that faith, and not just me.
Greek Orthodox/byzantine/other eastern traditions came about after the Roman split. I totally understand that. I also think, based on the number of eastern traditions that believe marriage to be eternal, that Jesus DID teach something about eternal marriage, but it’s NOT clear in the Bible. But obviously, you are free to interpret that passage to mean there is NO marriage, and others are free to interpret scripture as meaning that there won’t be new marriages.

Unlike the BOM, since we have the source documents from which the Bible is translated, we can see the minor differences of Paul's conversion can be shown to be nuances having to do with translation. There are no radical and divergent storylines as is depicted in Joseph's many first vision accounts.

LDS women don't leave their husbands because you can't get into Mormon heaven as a woman without a husband. Also we marry off our youth at 18-20. These kids do not know what a healthy relationship is or what their options are. Plus the social stigma of being divorced in the church is huge.
