This song Freddie wrote for his best friend Mary Austin. He considered her his common law wife. They dated for several years until he admitted he was bisexual. But they stayed so close that he left her 1/2 of his fortune and his home Garden Lodge. She is the only person who knows where his ashes were placed. She promised to keep it a secret and has to present day. He was godfather to her eldest son. Btw: He left his lover Jim Hutton half a million and the rest of his fortune to his parents and sister. Before he passed away he recorded as many songs as he could with Queen and co-wrote and performed the acclaimed opera album duet Barcelona with opera soprano diva Monserrat Caballe. He died age 45 in November of 1991. RIP Genius ❤
Gorgeous! I often think that Queen was and still is a band of wizards! Their music has an eternally medicinal and magical effect on the audience and the soul! Queen was way ahead of their time! Audience participation started in the '70s when Brian wrote "We will rock you" with that exact purpose in mind. Brian sings "Love of my life" solo in honor of Freddie and enthusiastically encourages the crowd to sing along "do you want to sing? Let's sing this for Freddie, ok". He'd say "don't be shy" and also encourage everyone to get out their iPhone lights reminiscent of back in the day when people held lighters. Near the end, a video of Freddie from this concert appears on a screen and sings the last part. Often, Brian would be seen wiping away a tear afterward in honor of his friend and brother in arms and probably so touched that people still go totally nuts for Queen.
His voice is so amazing no one could sound like him. and the rest of the band are the greatest and their genius is what makes queen the greatest band ever.
I was there at Wembley that night. The best gig I have ever been to. Freddie was special in so many ways. The song was written for Mary Austin, Freddie's one time girlfriend.
If you want to enjoy more of Freddie's vocal range, then you MUST do the song "The Show Must Go On" from their last album "Innuendo"... Freddie was terminally ill and Brian (the guitar player) wrote the song for him... But because some parts had very high notes, Brian afraid that Freddie couldn't make it... Freddie took it as an offence and his answer was "I'll fucking do it!"... One shot of Vodka down and Freddie lacerated those high notes...💪💪 Rumor has it that it was only in one take... You must also check Freddie's solo opera album "Barcelona"...He did a beautiful collaboration with the famous Spanish soprano singer, Montserrat Caballé... Believe me, it'll blow your mind!
Oh yes...so touching as the crowd sings back to them almost the whole song...freddie/ queen so overwhelming on that moment as they are not an english speaking country...please do react to it too..
After the Maine Road gig in 1986, Queen awarded a plaque to the fans to recognize the concert. It read: "In honour of one of the best concerts we have held, the reception we received and audience participation was unsurpassed." I was there and can testify that it was awesome....it was properly recorded but sadly never released. Stafford Bingley Hall 1977 was another insane audience participation which spawned the idea for "We will Rock you". I was also there, too! Great, great memories.
I saw Queen a few years ago in Sydney. Brian still performs the song on solo guitar with a life size laser image and sound of Freddie singing, the crown sang along with him! Exactly the same, it was surreal! Spinechilling!
Freddie is the GOAT. No question. This song is heartbreakingly beautiful and makes me tear up every time I hear it. Just in case no one has mentioned it, Brain May is, in fact, Dr. Brian May with his doctorate in astrophysics. He’s extraordinary in his own right. ❤️
It's funny B saying it was like he was singing for the audience, cause the part when he stops and says: "I still love you" to the crowd, was actually repeated in the end of "These are the days of our lives" vídeo (their last one) ,which seems like he's telling the fans that ,the way he looks at the camera and say it,sounds like a farewell,so sad...but nice that you noticed it! Cheers!
Actually Queen was always seen as an equal 4 piece rock band, the Freddie hype was born after Freddie died. Those people went to those shows to see Queen rocking. It doesn't matter if you give now a false appreciation to the rest of them. You really need to appreciate rock music really to understand why those other 3 were so important
True. Yet, an argument could be made ---The band "Queen" would never have even formed had it not been for Freddie. I am sure both Roger and Brian would have gone on to succeed in other bands -- but Queen was Freddie's brain child. It was also due to BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY that the band Queen really took off. It is also possible that (if not for Freddie) Brian May could have been an Astronomer and Roger Taylor a doctor---give the credit where the credit is due---HEY is there a song in that?? hee, hee...
Thanks so much for reacting to this. Freddie doing this song in front of this crowd is so iconic. There are so many great numbers from this concert. “Now I’m Here” is a fabulous song that deserves a look. It’s from Wembley 86 too.
One of my all time queen live performances! Freddie is such a showman and brian is one of the greatest guitar players! The guitar he is playing is 12 strings btw, which is hard to play, pls react to fat bottomed girls in Milton keynes or you can go back to some classics like bohemian Rhapsody live in Montreal!
Hey guys please do Live Aid it was a year before this show same place its about 20 minutes long but its well worth it .All the best acts of that time and Qween blew them all away ...some people say it was the best 20 minutes live of all time
I love sooooo many Queen songs, but this may be my favorite. Hauntingly beautiful, performed so simply, but it's a very musically complex song. Freddie used to say about instruments he played, "I play the crowd, darling."
Queen uses a clip of Freddie singing this song in their shows now. Brings tears to the eyes of everyone in the crowd. Freddie, a one of a kind amazing man.
Yes yes yes darlings!!! I really appreciate and love your Queen journey. We are going to ride along with you. They were so good and diverse. Amazing! Please react to Fat bottemed girls live at the Bowl.
Love that song. His voice was amazing. He wrote that for the love of his life - Mary Austin. They were engaged and lived together for 6 years. They remained best friends until the day he died. He left her most of his fortune along with his mansion. He told her if things were different they would have been married and the house would be hers anyway. He bought her a house when they separated and also made her his administrator of his books to keep her close. A friend in a documentary said everyone knew not to ever try coming between them. His partner also knew that he had to accept their close bond and never question it. BTW- Freddie never had a voice lesson.
Ps: please react to their Live Aid Performance. This was for charity, so no Queen crowd. Although Freddie had flu symptoms, he sang bloody good. 20 minutes of musical history. Just epic!❤
Freddie didn't have the flu during Live Aid, he had throat nodules (which was a constant problem with extensive singing engagements) and was advised by his doctor not to sing because it could cause permanent damage and complete loss of voice but he chose to sing anyway. At any rate, it was an absolute STELLAR performance!
@@elkrain9546 there's always a doubt about this...Some say Mary Austin, others say David minns and still others say No One...whatever...it's a great song full of emotions and it's the most important...👍👍👍
Love Of My Life was the song he wrote for Mary Austin. Freddie said no one would ever replace Mary. “It’s impossible.” Was his exact words. “Mary is my only friend.” They closed Live Aid with the song.
Ah the immortal Freddie! Absolutely beautiful, one of my favourite performances of this number. Wonderful, so glad to see how much you appreciated the best voice in the business! He was simply unique!
He never had formal singing lessons. As a result, in later years, he would develop nodules on his vocal chords. They sometimes had to cancel a concert. He actually did LiveAid against the advice of his doctors because he had some throat issues. You should react to “The Secrets behind Freddie Mercury’s voice”. Here’s the link: czcams.com/video/p3MjsrMNCbU/video.html. In this video, they discuss the album that Freddie did with opera soprano Montserrat Caballe’. He did it in 1987, & she knew that he was HIV positive. The song “Barcelona” is not only about their first meeting, it was for the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. But Freddie died in 1991. They remained good friends until his death. Please react to it! Freddie even shaved off his iconic mustache because he wanted to look nice for her. Here is that link: czcams.com/video/pPG5DP2RQZk/video.html Thank you!
He developed nodules from over touring, his technique wasn't too bad. He was already diagnosed with nodules in 1975. Most singers will get nodules even Pavarotti had nodules with years of training and perfect technique. He had a throat infection at Live Aid, he was also sick during this Wembley show.
This brings tears to my eyes. I saw Queen in concert in the late '70s early '80s. The best thing about watching a live Queen concert over the record is you get these raw songs where anything can happen. Freddie was such a Queen on the stage. People looked at him and thought "I don't know" but when they heard him it was magic. There will never be another Freddie. I am so glad CZcams will always have this on it for generations to come.
The simplest example of Queen's impact happened 1 July 2017. 65000+ Green Day fans gathered in London for a concert. Before the concert, an instrumental version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" came over the loudspeakers, and EVERYBODY SANG.
Another great reaction vid. Was going to post a link here for "The Secrets behind Freddie Mercury's voice" but looks like Hey Jude already did. It's worth the watch and explains a lot. Although the song was originally written for his ex Fiance' Mary Austin, I still feel when he sings it, he also sings it to the fans, just by the simple things he does when he says and points to them " I still love you" He did love his fans, as did all of the Queen members. It was a genuine love, no just a phony one because they were on stage, you could tell how real it was by their performances and would have given 110% whether it was for 72 thousand people or 500.
Love Of My Life was the #3 most heartbreaking love songs, on my personal list forever! It's always fighting with another Queen masterpiece, Who Wants To Live Forever. 😂🥰😍😁 I used to daydream about meeting Freddie and telling him that he was the love of my life! 😂 You guys know why I don't anymore. 😂
Freddie wrote the song. I think this is actually when John and Roger can take a little well deserved break--as Freddie does himself in the middle of the song---leaving Brian alone to his brilliant self. I believe when a person sings from their soul, it transcends all of us. Anyone good can hit the stupid note, but not everyone can be in the moment with those listening and speak to their souls. FM was a GIFT.
Hi guys great reaction to the iconic queen!! If you want to hear Roger sing how about reacting to “I’m in love with my car” live in Montreal 1981. Also “ lap of the gods” live at the rainbow 1974. Rogers falsetto is amazing!!!
The Rio crowd of several hundred thousand do it MUCH better than the Wembley lot. And English wasn't even their language. A genuine goosebumps moment at Rio.
It wasn't for Mary. People keep repeating the same myth. Freddie said it was just a song and he didn't write it for anybody in particular. He said people read too much into it. That's still happening.
At the start of the 80s at the NEC in Birmingham, lighters in the air, a young couple who were seeing Queen for the first time were sat in front of us, she couldn’t believe the atmosphere and just started crying, she said she had never expected to be so emotional, bet she’s been a fan ever since....
Freddie was unbelievable! In your spare time CZcams his “Love of my Life” performance in Sydney in 1985. My personal favourite performance of the song. Such power!
I had never heard that song too until I watch their movie in December 2018. That night I fell in love with them and watch everything I could on youtube. That is also then I discovered reactors like you guys. My greatest regrets is that I will never see Queen with Freddie but at least they left so many good concert, for another beautiful song also from this concert Who wants to live forever written by Brian. Thanks guys.
The love of his life was actually a woman and this song is about her , Mary Austin was his first love and they were to be married but as it turned out he was gay she couldn't go through with it so they split up . He actually still wanted to marry her because he loved her so much and did until the day he died .They remained close all his life and she inherited the house she found for him years before along with most of his fortune . She remained by his side until the end and was with him when he died , she is the only person who knows where his ashes are , that's a true love story .
Great comments guys. “Collaborates with the audience” & “is it a love song to the crowd?” Yes to both, although the latter developed over time. “I still fucking love you.” ~Freddie Mercury, Knebworth 1986 during what would be his last show Love Brian with his 12 string. & Yes, definitely all 4 are extremely talented, but Freddie’s stage presence is almost like a 5th band member.
No, he didn't. Freddie never actually told publicy and even privately about whom his songs were about. Just because it was said so in the movie doesn't make it true as 90% of it is fiction anyway. John Reid once clarified that the song was actually about David Minns, Freddie's boyfriend. Given the lyrics and timeline it fits.
You guys should check out Bohemian Rhapsody from Budapest 86 on the last tour! It's superior to the Wembley concert as Freddie is in better vocal shape, AND it was shot on film and remastered! Thanks.
Magical song and performance ,his connection with the crowd was amazing wherever they played ,I'm not sure if it was Budapest when they played there Freddie learned there national anthem and sang it on the first night ,give a listen to under pressure live at Wembley ,you will recognise the baseline written by bassist John deacon ,rapper vanilla ice used the baseline in ice Ice baby but didn't credit the band ,he got sued and lost ,but amazing performance ,thanks ,stay safe from Liverpool UK x
Thanks for that guys! I am sending a link to this song from last month in South Korea. The guys have Freddie interact with today's audiences. The love and emotions run high at the concerts. No need to react to this, just watch it for your own pleasure. 70,000 South Korean's singing back to Freddie. I was at a concert last summer when Brian was overcome with emotion. Enjoy and thanks again! Loving your channel czcams.com/video/uZPBPKi6PKk/video.html

She remained by his side until the end and was with him when he died , she is the only person who knows where his ashes are , that's a true love story .
React to under pressure or it's a kind of magic or another one bites the dust Live at wembley 1986
Please react to Crazy little thing called love
Freddie sings like Elvis it’s so cool
Great comments guys.
“Collaborates with the audience” & “is it a love song to the crowd?”
Yes to both, although the latter developed over time.
“I still fucking love you.”
~Freddie Mercury, Knebworth 1986 during what would be his last show
Love Brian with his 12 string. & Yes, definitely all 4 are extremely talented, but Freddie’s stage presence is almost like a 5th band member.
Funny in life, there is always more today, but sadly there is a lot less.
Freddie wrote the song about Mary Austin who he referred too as the Love of his life.
@@carmenfelton3171 He left the rights to that song to Mary. Doesn"t mean it was about her, but she likely knows everything about it.
No. He didn't. He never said it was and nor has Mary. It's just become a myth people prefer to believe.
@@isthisjustfantasy7557 Google was Love of my life written for Mary Austin. That's all I ask , you do nor have to respond after that.
He never had any singing lessons. He was in a choir at school but that's about it.
I read somewhere that this was Freddie's most difficult song because it was written entirely where his voice broke.
And how good was Brian May on the acoustic guitar? A perfect accompaniment to Freddie! ❤️❤️
You guys should check out Bohemian Rhapsody from Budapest 86 on the last tour! It's superior to the Wembley concert as Freddie is in better vocal shape, AND it was shot on film and remastered! Thanks.
You should do “Tie your Mother Down”, live at Wembley. Also Axl sang part of Bohemian Rhapsody at the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert with Elton John
Freddy Mercury leggenda è la sua voce rimarrà per sempre nei nostri cuori 💓
Magical song and performance ,his connection with the crowd was amazing wherever they played ,I'm not sure if it was Budapest when they played there Freddie learned there national anthem and sang it on the first night ,give a listen to under pressure live at Wembley ,you will recognise the baseline written by bassist John deacon ,rapper vanilla ice used the baseline in ice Ice baby but didn't credit the band ,he got sued and lost ,but amazing performance ,thanks ,stay safe from Liverpool UK x
Freddie +decon+may+taler=Queen everything else is Queen+somebody
Thanks for that guys! I am sending a link to this song from last month in South Korea. The guys have Freddie interact with today's audiences. The love and emotions run high at the concerts. No need to react to this, just watch it for your own pleasure. 70,000 South Korean's singing back to Freddie. I was at a concert last summer when Brian was overcome with emotion. Enjoy and thanks again! Loving your channel czcams.com/video/uZPBPKi6PKk/video.html
A good live song to react is fat bottomed girls live at the bowl 1982 or who wants to live for ever from this same concert
