If you want to know why Queen were so good live.....it was the rhythm section. I was in that stadium that day. When you saw Queen live the drums were like a ticking clock and the bass was like thunder coming across the stadium. I saw them live a couple of dozen times over 12 years. It was always the same. Then Brian was a great guitar player and Freddie ....well....they broke the mould after he was made. They were all multi-instrumentalists. John and Brian are both excellent guitar players but all of them could play guitar, John Brian and Roger all played bass, Brian John and Freddie played Piano, John and Roger both play drums and....speaking as a musician myself....they were as tight as it gets. The understanding between the four of them is superb to watch. They are all outstanding musicians....and that is why they sound like that. When they played live the bass and drums drove the songs generally speaking. Listen to the bass lines in the songs....genius! You don't know this until you see them live. Roger Taylor is a phenomenally good drummer and you can tell it's him when you hear him. He has a unique sound. John Deacon's bass playing is also identifiable the little weepy high register stuff....nobody plays like that....listen to Save Me at the beginning. Typical Deacon. I've seen piles of bands from the Who to Fleetwood Mac, the Stones, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Genisis, The Police, The Jam....and so on. Some were great and some not so great...Queen were better live performers than all of them.....and of course, they could all write hit records. Name me another band where all the members can do that?
I have to stop it before he says it cause I bawl like a baby every dang time lol. I was 10 when he died. My sister had played under pressure in the car when I was 8 and from then on it was Queen all the time for me. When he died I was 10 and mad at the world. I cried for a week every time it was brought up in conversation around me. Daddy finally started telling everyone not to even mention the words Queen or Freddy Mercury lol.
@@loraharvey6740 I was 44 when he died and it was like a dagger through my heart, my husband and I were huge Queen fans and Freddie was our hero and we grieved as though he had been close family. It still hurts me to this day to think that such a wonderful, generous and loving man was taken from us.
@@joannedarley1893 it devastated me horribly at 10 years old. If I had been older and had more time as a fan at that point I can't imagine how I would have felt. I remember asking daddy why God brought Freddie into my life just to take him away. ( I was very dramatic about his death. ) and he told me that his music was what God brought into my life and it would never be dead and will live on in us everyday.
When I was a kid I thought they were black cause we were rocking to this on the r&b stations. Never knew it was Queen till I grew up and expanded my music horizons! Gr8 music!
A thing to remember about performing in those days is they did it under massive lighting rigs in the days before LED lights. Up on stage was like a heater
You're not joking - each one probably 500-1000W, maybe more, and i can see 10's if not 100's of them! They had to bring in 3-4 big ass generator trucks just to power these tours.
If you would like some idea of the amount of fans of Queen and how strongly we feel about them to this day, try Bohemian Rhapsody at Green Day Hyde Park. This was in the summer of 2017 . A young crowd and word perfect. Queen is in our DNA!🤴🤴
this is written by our dear John Deacon..in an interview, he said that he had 3 versions..he was quite shy to his band at first..also michael jackson during the time when he visited queen at the studio since they're all friends, heard this and MJ suggested to release it as a single and it will be a hit..and it did..tnx for reacting to queen again..hope you would continue to do more..we're all here for you and for queen..
As much as I enjoyed the movie too and appreciate all the new attention it's brought Queen, there's a few things to keep in mind about its accuracy (and I'm sure others have said this, I'm sorry in advance if so!) The movie shows Freddie sort of suddenly running into the band and auditioning, when in reality he knew them well (especially Roger - they worked a clothing stall in London together), but that's minor. The big things are that 1) Freddie wasn't the first to go solo, as the movie portrays - it was Roger, and Brian had a solo career as well. Roger even sang backup for Freddie on his solo album and appeared in "The Great Pretender" music video in drag, so they were still close friends at the time! I guess the narrative of the star leaving to pursue more money fit the storyline better? It's just not truthful. Of course they had big disagreements and arguments, and the early-mid 80s was a time of personal exploration for them because of creative differences, but not the estrangement the movie shows. You can see how Freddie disputes the breakup claims here - this was after Live Aid, yes, but what he says here also clearly proves there was never a past breakup of any kind either. They also never had that huge years-long break from touring the movie claims happened before Live Aid ("We haven't performed together in years!" - that whole thing). They toured South America just a few months before Live Aid, actually, so it was in no way a band reunion (though it did revitalize their career and inspire them to work on their next album and plan their last tour, which this concert is from!) Freddie also didn't know about his AIDS diagnosis until 1987, so 2 years after Live Aid, and didn't tell the band right away; it was sort of unspoken until it was too obvious not to address because he wanted to continue working normally (though he wasn't able to tour anymore - you can see how much energy it took, and the during this tour is when he began to realize he didn't feel quite right and that it took more out of him than normal). A few other timeline things are the release of "We Will Rock You"/ " We Are the Champions", portrayed as in the 80s during Freddie's time a bit away from the band, when in reality they were released in the late 70s during the long-hair era and very much planned together, not just shown to Freddie later.
