Great review, Julianne! I really appreciate the pillion info you covered and the addition at the end. My wife and I tour on our S1000XR so I'm always interested in this info and it is rare to get that in a review. I also share your reviews with friends who have a similar stature to you so they can get a sense of how the bike might fit their ergonomics. They always appreciate how they can "see" themselves on the bike and are inspired to try it. Well done!! 👍

Wonderful review and covered those (to me) all important points.
In 2017 I test road both the 950 and Triumph 800 XRT, when I matched up the configurations and naturally accepted that the Ducatti was going to cost a few dollars more the two biggest things that put me off were the seat height and the throttle response at low speed especially from start in traffic (forever stalling). The Triumph won out in the end.
That said each ride I regret not having that wonderful Testastretta engine beneath me. With both these items now addressed I think it's time I took another test ride.

Thank you so much for the detailed review, especially the comparison to 950 and V4. I'm thinking to buy a multistrada for longer trips. I've been riding a Ducati Scrambler 1100 for 3 years and I really love the character of this Italian machine. However, it's not comfortable after an hour riding on highways due to the lack of cruise control and wind protection. Your candid review is super helpful for me to have the multistrada V2S in my garage. Love your reviews. Keep it up.

I just noticed the red stripes on the wheels that look quite cool when watching the bike go by from the side. It's almost a red flashing effect. Neat. Oh and towards the end where you were talking about low rev operation, the English word I've always used to describe that is to 'lug' the engine or 'lugging' the engine where the bike struggles to accelerate and it's almost like you can feel the individual power pulses.

I have the hyperstrada 821 too, and I think I'll just keep it. Wish they'd developed the hyper further, still nothing like it. They plonked this engine into the multi in around 2017, and it still weighs in the vicinity of 500lbs. KTM is reviving the SMT, but...KTM.

Hi Juliane. Nice job on the comprehensive review. Especially as it was only a two day intro ride. The small data pop-ups you included worked well and didn't distract much.
Sounds like you need to take a V2S for 2 weeks of real traveling. Norway or Canada West would sure do it. Then use it for another week just running around. Canada riding secret? Avoid the busy major roads, loads of long, quiet, curvy side routes.
When on long dirt or gravel sections we lower tire pressure quite a bit, like 30%. Did the Ducati reps mention that? A small air compressor easily hides in the luggage till needed. Be sure it will run off your power port. Engine running while pumping air, bike batts are small. Ducati offers spoke wheels for real off road use, perhaps because light alloy wheels don't like rock hits at all.
Thanks again. Loved your Mona Lisa smile while TurboBoy was talking. Leon.

I already ordered the V2 S Travel at my bike store in Wr. Neustadt. Thank you Julianne, I appreciate that you added the fuel consumption/ range comparison. I love the sound of V4, but the mileage is a bit worry. Definitely here Down Under you occasionally need 400 km to the next petrol station. I’m also a bit concerned about the heat of the V4 - if I understood correctly, V2 does not warm up the rider that much

Hi Juliane, thanks for sharing this wonderful review. Recently came across your channel and subscribed! Your reviews are very informative. BTW, apart from the power difference, is there any difference in overall comfort level between the V2 and V4 in case of two up (pillion) riding? The V2 has plenty of power for a pillion plus luggage itself I am sure, and you would only feel the difference if you ever ride a V4 I guess. So is there any reason to go for a V4 just because you do occasional two up trips?

Thanks for taking the time to make your review. It was great to hear your thoughts on the V2S.
It’s interesting to see how Ducati have evolved the Multi over the last 10 to 12 years.
I can’t help but think that Ducati is going backwards.
If you compare power, weight and handling, the old ones had higher spec cycle parts (single swing arms and ohlins) developed more usable power lower in the rev range, had better fuel economy and we’re basically much more fun to ride. The 2010 model’s engine was derived from the WSB 1098 after all. It was literally a superbike on stilts.
Even when the new bikes do generate more power they need 1800 more rpms than the old bikes. That’s literally 20% more rpms !
Below is the V2 from 2010-2015 compared with the current V2 (there was no 950 back then) and then compared with the V4s

Unfortunately if you compare the 2010 Multi with the 19 inch front wheel V4 it is even worse.

    Weight dry 189kg. 218kg
