WHAT ARE PEOPLE CRYING ABOUT?!?! If you desire the old Contra's GO PLAY THEM. You can more than easily download them or if you have physical copies, voila. To me, this looks DOPE and I'm definitely going to play this and ENJOY every moment. I love nostalgia as much as the next person but if you want nostalgia then play the OLD games.
And no ammount of nostalgia can make the classic Contra games look better than this.

The old Contra games looked gorgeous, these are two completely different art styles, like trying to compare the taste of an apple with the taste of an orange.
This game looks great, but visually it doesn't resemble a Contra game in the slightest. So why give it the Contra moniker when it could have its own identity?

To all the people saying it is not Contra anymore. The game has no Contra in title, just some refferences and music remixes. Treat it as a spiritual successor and everyone will be happy.

My guess is that this storyline takes place around the events of Contra 3. Bahamut was referred to as a "hero of the Alien Wars" during Contra Hard Corps. It makes sense to me.
It's actually from before the first Contra. From way before, like 20 years before the events of the first Contra.
This game was developed by Arc System Works. The art in this game was made by Daisuke Ishiwatari of Guilty Gear fame so the game has a very Guilty Gear meets Contra vibe.
Amazing video, congrats on that playthrough, you've got skills i could never do a no death run with Bahamut or Krystal i had to use Sayuri to get that trophy.

You could not imagine how jealous I am right now. I was just playing this, and did okay with the on foot segments, only to be crushed by the bosses and the speeder section. Yet here you are, dashing (and air dashing!) past most of the terrain, slipping through enemies, and laying waste to the bosses in ten seconds. And this was when the game was first released a decade ago! Ugh!
Yeah this is a really tough game to complete in Arcade Mode and get all achievements! I did it nearly a decade ago. Practice makes perfect in this one :/

Yeah, well, it ain't getting it. This game is only on the PS3's e-shop, but it is backwards compatible on the newer xboxes. Oh, and it was released in 2011.

I did this myself for the trophy. I remember the one with a partner was the hardest for me because it was difficult to find a person who wouldn't die so quick. I wish I had more of my memory of this. I think there was a no upgrade trophy too. Been a long time. Don't think I'd do stuff like this again. Games have to be really tight to warrant such dedicated play and they usually aren't.

And then some years later, this guy pulls the mother of all Face Heel turns and becomes any version of that Final Boss he just fought.
It's like when Guilty Gear/Blazblue meets Contra since this is also an ArcSys (Arc System Works) game.

virtual jedi dude. u played a great game. I've seen first boss a couple of times but haven't beaten it yet. play the rpg mode a lot to spec up my characters a bit. still great contra title tho & challenge is what keeps u playing.

Pretty sweet looking run and gun. 15 dollars is a hard sell, but thinking of getting it tonight..
Much as I love my Metal Slugs and still play Shattered Soldier, it could get kind of annoying having to live with either bars or sprites on hd sets (Yeah, I know there's emulation fixes and hacks, but I prefer original hardware.)
if you were worried on how the sprites would look with HDMI and such, I can tell you it still looks great. Recently started playing it again with my friend online.

For some reason I was under the impression I was doing this wrong. Maybe a stealth mission but then it hit me. This is a Contra game. Just shoot stuff and move forward and shoot more stuff.
Edit: Probably would have helped if I mentioned I was talking about the laboratory level.

***** Not necessarily The developers said in an interview that the Bahamut here might be a different person with the same identity (ie the Hard Corps Bahamut may have killed him and stolen his identity, or something). Without a sequel, we don't know though.
***** I think they definitely meant to tell a larger story with Bahamut. It's just a shame the sequel never materialized. I think Hard Corps Uprising gets unfairly slammed a lot by more hardcore players. It's actually a pretty cool game once you get past its flaws, and with some polish and refinement it could have been one of the best Contra games (or at least one awesome run and gun shooter, if one feels it's too different from Contra).

IIRC interviews actually made it sound like Konami did most of the actual design, while Arcsys handled the graphics and threw out suggestions, so Konami would definitely have to be on board (dunno if the recent Contra Pachislot game means they think they can still sell shit with the license?)

+treeghettox While it lacked unique level, Uprising had longer stage, character had their own unique characteristic as well. Bahamut was well-round while Krystal while weaker but had better mobility. Harley had the worst mobility but can tank damage better. Sayuri and Leviathan got a category of their own. Sayuri was a glass canon close range combat (Long range sometime) with all kind of mobility, action and unique movement exclusive from her own (Samurai Action.) Leviathan with his insane speed, mobility and dark action and his classic contra one hit death was a trade off for all of the shit he got. I think this game had a lot of mini bosses as well but not as much as shattered soldiers though.

Dude, a good game doesn't matter if they are harder or not or the amount of miniboss. Look at Megaman X4, the difficulty was just right yet well level design and much easier compare to X1, X2 and X3 yet was known to be the best game of the X series. Also, while there are barely difference between Bahamut, Harley and Krystal yet you never mention Sayuri whose gameplay was nothing Contra had before. I'm not exaggerating her part because she's just that unique. Also, Uprising had better mobility option than Contra Hard Corps. With all of the Action chips, double/triple jump and Air Dash, this made the game a far more fair challenge and you can control the stage at your own pace. The game made sure that the challenge was equal to the amount of ability your character had. What you are arguing was what is harder, not better. Rising Mode was a great introduction for the new player with replayability because it encourage the player to learn the pattern of the stage. I love Contra Hard Corps myself but once you put down my nostalgia google, the sheer amount of option in Uprising made me want to experience different playstyle in one character more.

To me, the bosses were just right a tiny bit of hard but just right. Not too easy or not to hard if you figured out their pattern. Aesthetically speaking, yeah, the mobs look retarded but I can pass it because the bosses actually pretty damn dynamic and they are persistent in their own. The weapon while less variety but I found them a lot more useful except for the C weapon. I mean I could argue that Uprising used Quality over Quantity. Laser was godlike and rewarded you A LOT at level 3 and the best L incarnation to date. F aka Heat was just an upgrade over F in the past Contra due to how useful it demolished tiny bullets at full charge and it charge pretty fast even w/o upgrade. Machine Gun was at its best incarnation and a lot more beastly than the past Contra. Spread Shot was still as useful as ever though Laser overshadowed it in the long run. I love the weapon upgrade system. I think your main complain was about the aesthetic rather than the game. Except for the stupid looking mobs and some lame boss, I don't think it wasn't that bad and the main character design was also awesome to me because they were design by my favorite Daisuke. GG style had chemistry with Contra with its Rock and Metal style so Bahamu, Harley, Sayuri and Leviathan are fantastic. Krystal was kinda bland though.
