That's the secret Dunsparce evolution. Yeah get him by using surf to get behind truck in red and blue, getting a special item and trading it to gold or silver. Then, you trade it up to emerald, give it to Dunsparce, and then trade the Dunsparce back down to crystal specifically.
It's totes legit.

For others considering getting a Crobat, you should know that using potions does *not* actually increase pokemon's happiness. It's trickier than that. Happiness is a 0-255 value. You can *only* increase it by: 1) walking 256 steps 2) leveling up your pokemon 3) giving it stats boosting items, for example zinc. Golbat can evolve into Crobat after its happiness value is greater than or equal to 220. If your zubat happens to start off with a particularly low happiness value (as mine did in the last run) this could make turning your Golbat into a Crobat a much longer and more difficult endeavor. By the way, there is no way in the game to check the exact happiness value of a certain pokemon. But if you go to a woman in Goldenrod City, she will evaluate the happiness of your pokemon. If she says "I get the feeling that it really trusts you", then your Golbat's happiness rating is at least 200 and you are getting close. Hope this helps someone!
Two years late but the easiest and fastest way to get a crobat is to visit Kurt and have him make you a friend ball. Catch a golbat with it and iirc it starts you off at 200+ which cuts out a significant part of the grind. Haircut brothers in golden rod also increase friendship.
Actually you don't have to level happiness by any of those statements. Put the pokemon who you want to increase happiness factors in your Second slot in your pokemon party. Not number 1 3 4 5 or 6. Never use them, ever. Don't even put EXP share on that fucker. And be sure to have hatched it from an egg. DON'T use a pokemon you caught in the wild, they hate your ass. You're gunna be leveling up happiness every time you beat an opponent. So ideally, you're gunna run the elite Four maybe 4 to 5 times. Which will give your party a happiness increase by 25 gym leaders defeats. That's technically the fastest way to reach a Happy Cap.

@@shoobydooThat’s nice when you want a Golbat. But for those of us who wanted an Espeon or Umbreon, there was no Friend Ball. You either used the gift Eevee or bred one.
Here's something to remember. There is no move tutor in this game, therefore when dealing with Pokemon who evolve with a stone look up it's moves before deciding when to evolve it. For example, Gloom learns petal dance at 44 and Bellosom does not learn it, ever. So the minimum level for evolving Gloom should be 44 ideally. There are others that have this same issue
By move tutor I mean an NPC that can make your Pokemon relearn level up moves

Extremespeed Dratini isn't in Silver and Gold, it is only in crystal version, you should have told the young people how to hunt the beast trio since they can be a pain and it was the 1st time wandering legendaries were introduced. You forgot gift eevee giving you either umbreon or espeon, and umbreon is I think the only dark type you can get in the 1st 1/2 of the game, you can't get houndour or murkrow until post game, and the gift tyrouge, you also don't have to save before catching lapras because it appears every friday so there isn't only 1 like with the shiny Gyarados (but it would still be smart lapras is a good pokemon, good for hm slaving, and is just in general rare).
Umbreon is not very good to be fair. It doesn't get access to toxic until after E4 which is what it needs as a mixed wall. Espeon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon are the ones that are good.
I don't care it is my favorite eeveelution and it is still the only accessible dark type until post game, even if it's a physical attacker and only has faint attack, dig, and iron tail that it can use.
Umbreon is fine but it's just the Gen2 moveset that lets it down 😭
Yeah can't argue against that, but I still like it, and I don't really worry about competitive anyways.

I really liked this style of video, seeing you visually speaking and having pictures next to you while also switching to screenshots from websites really kept me engaged, the quiet background music was awesome too, all around it was really interesting and had lots of useful info. I hope you make more videos of this format!
Something that is super important is the cloning pokemon to clone TM's. Since there are only one of each in the game, it saddens me to use mud-slap and rollout TM's so early in the game and delete them for better moves later on. Call it what you will, but the freedom to use TM's as how I please will definitely get more enjoyment from it. Save the game with the pokemon and item you want to clone in your party, then change boxes and as it says "saving, do not turn the power off.", reset it and when you continue, the same pokemon and item will be in your party and in your box. Some will say its risky but I've never had problems with it.
You talk about how you need a lot of patience to catch the 1% encounter Dunsparce, yet you fail to bring up the phone system where a number of trainers will call you to tell you when such pokemon are swarming, making them incredibly common. That's a better tip than "be patient"
I did try that and the guy never called. So I got a level 4 Ratata and ran around with repels since dunsparse is only level 4. Found it after 5-10 minutes with reduced encounters from the rest.
After that, I started getting calls from the guy
There's one semi-important thing you missed as well. In Gold Lugia doesn't get access to Aeroblast its signature move so you might want to play Silver for that reason.
And vice verse with Ho-oh in gold with it's signature move Sacred fire.
Great tips my Fellow Pokemon Master ProtoMario. From another Pokemon Master to another. I still have my save file for Pokemon Red and Pokemon Gold where i caught all my pokemon. I approve of these tips and of ProtoMario.

Could you put up a list of the tips such as where available trades are or day-specific events?
It's probably worth noting that which level you get your legendary at DOES make a difference; this was before the move relearned was introduced, so the one you get at level 70 won't and can't know it's signature move (Sacred Fire for Ho-Oh and Aeroblast for Lugia).

In my soul silver first i got a zubat i evolved it into a golbat and when it leveled up just by one it became a crobat

Who else is still at beginning of the game softresetting for a shiny starter?
Honestly, you can move whichever starter you get into Sun/Moon and keep hatching eggs till u get a shiny... Or just trade for a shiny
I know but i want to start off with a shiny Chikorita and give it gen 2 exclusive moves.
you could have just buggglitched it into a shiny later on.. if your only reason was to have gen2 moves on a shiny(that dont work with sun/moon anyway)
Ofc glitching shiny ivs is sth that takes the surprise of aquireing a shiny.. yet for legendaries and starters i find it better to use.. its just wasted time you could invest into trying to catch other shinies
Dunsparce is only a 1% encounter on Level 4 of Dark Cave, maybe my memory is failing me but I didn't think you could progress that deep into the cave until later on in the game.

Blues Reviews My bad. "Extremespeed" Dratini is only available in Crystal. Dratini in general is really easy to acquire but there are definitely better options around than Dragonite

True, it's harder but luck matters too. I just got a shiny lugia in soul silver after around 1300 soft resets, be dedicated and it will eventually show up.

Just started replaying crystal on my backlit gameboy color. Thanks for the tips fam. I caught dunsparce after 3 minutes of walking in dark cave.
Technically shuckle comes in handy if you use berry attached to it. It turns to berry juice leave it with shuckle and it will transformation to rare candy.
Uh, Proto? The ES Dratini is Crystal only.
However, this WILL be helpful once they rerelase Crystal hopefully.

There's a Tyrogue you can acquire in Mt. Mortar from an NPC called Kiyo.
Also, in Crystal only, you can get an odd egg from the day care man with a Pokemon that is either Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Tyrogue, Smoochum, Elekid or Magby, and has a 14% chance of it being shiny.
You also get a togepi egg from Mr. Pokemon in every gen 2 game.
But proto in hgss I came across a shiny pidgey but it was on my way to Mr pokemon house so I didn't have any pokeballs (crying)
SAME i found shiny hoothoot in hg & didn't have pokeballs yet that was so sad XD

The Dratini is only in Crystal, also the paralysis doesn't help to catch Pokémons in these versions due to a bug, only freeze and sleep work.
But Proto! I had a Feraligatr by Morty's gym and used Bite to sweep his Ghost team easy!

It probably would have made things a lot easier...
Morty's gengar can actually be easy to deal with, it'll always try to use the hypnosis+dream eater combo, just go in to the battle with a few awakenings and/or mint berries.
haha i know this is an old comment, but literally just teaching flash to a normal type (togepi ) with a mint berry, mud slap the shit out of it, and it no longer hits you plus ground damage hurt the poison type in the gengar .. lol works pretty well!
Not sure if it was fixed on virtual console but paralyze doesn't affect catch rate in silver or gold.
Morty's Gengar put to sleep my Quilava but then I switched into Flaafy right away and its dream eater did nothing. I then used Flaffy (named Marie if you were curious) and Thunder waved it and knocked it out with thunder punch (which you can buy in Goldenrod City) with relative ease. It was pretty cool.
The Dratini is crystal only bro but it doesnt matter. Still good info since Data Miners found out the Crystal will be out soon as well.

Pokemon yellow came out when I was.. 7 now 33. And iv been a fan of gen1 and gen2 ever since. Playing red and silver occasionally. And I thought I knew my stuff on the game. This info will change my gameplay completely.

Pro Tips would be more helpful. Like: be sure to get all the Ice, fire, thunder punches on your Pokemon asap. Use the Amulet Coin for EVERY battle. Be sure to catch both genders of your favorite Pokemon, take them to the breeder, then your Pokemon get access to hidden moves only obtained by compatible breeding. Be sure to not waste money on ultra or great balls. Regular Poke balls have better catch rate regardless of what the game tells you. Hypno is better than haunter. Get a Hypno. Be sure to grab chikorita as your starter, cause there is no legendary Pokemon that is a grass type by end game and you have all the legendary dogs, birds. You'll want a grass type. Those are Pro tips. Not a recommendation to only play Crystal version to get a ES Drantini. 😂🤣❓
... You're telling me regular pokeballs are just as good?...
Regular Poké balls do not have a better catch rate than Great or Ultra balls. I don't know where you got that from but it's not correct. It's true that some special balls are not working correctly (see Love ball for example) but the normal balls work as intended.

I didn't know what shiny Pokemon were when i played gold but it turned out I started with a shiny totodile. I always wondered why it sparkled when it came out and I played on a gameboy pocket not a colour so didn't know the difference
Something that I didn't order to cut down on grinding was I actually did the 7th gym and the team rocket quest immediately after the 4th gym which had my pokemon At level 32 With no grinding for The steel type Gym
i really got a taste of that gengar today, but honestly the if you have a full party that gym shouldn't be a problem, im right now doing a run with only 1 pokemon that i'm not allowed to evolve and i still won against him, it did take a couple of tries ofcourse.

I found a dunsparce on like my fifth encounter by accident.I didn't even know it was only 1% and still caught it on my last pokeball.I am probably going to breed for a shiny one and have one of the rarest shinies in gen 2.
Extreme Speed Dratini is only on the Crystal, Heart Gold and Soul Silver versions.

There's a couple of incorrect facts here. 1. Paralyzing a Pokemon doesn't make it easier to catch in gen 2. 2. You don't get the ES dratini in Gold and Silver. Only in Crystal and HG and SS.

I don't know about getting a Dratini in gs seeing as in Gen 2 Dragon Moves weren't the best. I just looked it up. Outrage is the strongest, but its downfall is that the user suffers fatigued confusion after a few turns. I know this is before Abilities were around too.
I managed to somehow get into a lengthy PP stall war with Morty's second Haunter, and all I had left was my Eevee and I somehow managed to make it struggle to death with me having no attacks to hit it. Also my first shiny in the Crystal virtual console is a Growlithe that I named Birb because me and my boyfriend were making a joke about how in the anime, there's a picture of Arcanine with the legendary bird trio, and it's still something that we laugh about whenever we see it.
okay, so due to a glitch you can trade a shiny back to gen 1 so long as it doesn't know any moves from gen 2
but if you send that pokemon out against a wild ditto, and somehow get ditto to use transform twice by clever and lucky use of mimic or mirror move, or by having a shiny that can also transform, (ditto mew or smeargle) ditto will permanently copy its DVs and will become shiny when traded to gen 2.
then THAT shiny ditto will have a 1 in 64 chance of having a shiny offspring.
so that means any gen 1-2 non legendary can be shiny 4IV with gameboy sticker?
