  • In this Ott’s Garage we go through the sizes of line I use on all my set ups! Much like with fluorocarbon, dont make it too hard! Pick a few that work for you and stick with them!

    Good evening ott,
    Thanks for all the great informative content. I actually used your pick 2 and pick 4 videos to select my first above average $ rod and reel tonight. Cant wait to sling it around tomorrow again thank you

    Thanks for the tips from Otts Garage. So much has changed since the seventies. I will give this a try. Hope you catch a bunch of giant smallmouth tomorrow. 🐟

    Thanks Ott, great tips. I am going to start using more braid line on my setups. Good luck tomorrow and Monday up at St Lawrence. Hope you win and advance to the finals. God Bless.

    I really enjoy the educational videos on CZcams.
    I just watched your episode on Hunt for Monster Bass with Parker and I can't put into words how much I enjoyed it.
    There is just something special watching a father and child bond in the outdoors.
    I'd love to see more of that on these outdoor shows.

    Great article on braid Ott! Thank you. Could you review which rods you use in your arsenal? Carbonlite, platinum, Patriot and Crankin Stick?

    Great video like usual. I was rewatching it and have a question. How long of a flouro leader on bait caster do you use? Do you change it depending on water clarity? Thanks

    Great content, any problem with the braid pulling into itself on the spool when setting up on a fish?

    Do you use a floro leader on all of your braided line setups?

  • @nickcavazos5718

    All a guy needs braid on a baitcast. I used to run all braid for everything and that's all I used. 30 sucks when it digs in halfway through a bomb cast when you've been working a bait with slack.for 30 minutes.... have the only line size I've had to cut.

    Great video! Just curious I've only been bass fishing for a few years now, and most of my baitcasters have 10lb braid to 30, if you run thicker braids, are 10, 15, 20 braids ok to be using then? Thanks

    • @jameson732
      @jameson732 Před 2 lety

      10 is a bit light, the lowest i would go on a bait caster is 15

    I have a question. if you're putting 30lb braid on a medium power rod, what are you settings for your drag? For instance, a medium power rod as a line rating of 8-17lb. line. Great info, and thanks for sharing.

    • @OttDeFoeFishing
      @OttDeFoeFishing  Před rokem

      To be honest, I don’t look at the line rating for rods. Think of that as a guide line but not the only thing you can use on it. My drag settings are going to be based on the type of bait I’m using, then the cover I’m fishing in and line size. Treble hook baits I will always run my drag looser and single hook baits I’ll have it tighter. Of course lighter line you need to back off on drag and you probably won’t be throwing 8lb in a grass mat so less drag on light lines in open water, heavier drag on bigger lines in heavy cover. Hope this helps!

    @ottdefoe should I get the carbon lite or the platinum? Looking for an all around work horse worms jigs Carolina rigs spinner baits chatter baits and frogs also wooper ploppers and also what gear ratio reel should I get?

    • @OttDeFoeFishing
      @OttDeFoeFishing  Před rokem +1

      They are both good. I would probably go with a 7’3” MH carbon lite for all around.

    • @OttDeFoeFishing
      @OttDeFoeFishing  Před rokem +1

      For the reel a 7.5:1

    How do you figure how much to put on? For example, the box says 120yds of 12lb mono, or 120yds of 50lb braid. But if I'm spooling 20lb braid that has a 6lb mono diameter, it would obviously hold more line than 120yds. Would that mean 240yds because 6 is half of 12 therefore the capacity is doubled? I never got to figuring that out.
    (And I don't believe I'd spool 240yds of line on a compact baitcaster anyway lol... I just want to figure this out because not everyone uses the exact line that's printed on the box of the reel).

    • @OttDeFoeFishing
      @OttDeFoeFishing  Před měsícem +1

      I fill the spool to the bottom of the little lip.

      It's advisable for any treble hooked top water that you have to impart action to

    I'm curious as to what braid you use. You said at some point it was coated. Braid doesn't go through guides very easily for me.
