My brother served aboard the USS San Diego in some hairy situations and was telling us what he could. Our mom and I asked, What if you don’t know what to do?! He laughed and said, “Hope like hell the Coast Guard isn’t too far away!”
The people in the Coast Guard are amazing!
Not gonna lie, flying Coast Guard C-130s or any rescue aircraft is probably one of the most badass jobs out there.
Agreeeeeee
no joke!
was radioman in a C130 at Barbers point Hawaii in 83 to 85. one time in 83 we went to search for an Air Force Para rescue guy who jumped out of a C141 to Rescue a Mane Pilot who Punched out during a refueling operation,, he caught fire and ejected along with his co pilot,,, he was still tumbling in his efection seat at 34000 feet when he saw his jet explode,,,,
he was tumbling wildly in his ejection seat,, no oxygen,, probably drunk from lack of oxygen when he decided to stick his arms out to slow the rate of tumble of his ejection seat,,, the chute opened at 10 thousand feet .. its to prevent pilots who eject higher from getting sucked up into a thundercloud and being turned into a 300 pound hail ball
LtCdr Fothergill ,, ex Kodiak pilot shut down 2 engines to give us an extra half hour on scene to searcn,, for the Air Force pararescueman that jumped to his death to help them,,
we could not restart one engine or divert fuel to the good engine so we where going to ditch,, but,, for some miracle the jet stream died and we landed on fumes at Hilo
the air force P J gave his life to save the 2 Marine Pilots , he was from McCord AFB. he has been with me in every effort i have ever made since then,,,, he is literally my left nut,, haha
Future U.S.C.G Member I, I am 12 and 1st thing that comes to my mind is “What am I going to do when I finish school?” I decided to go with the U.S.C.G. Me and my friend want to both serve out country and protect the people. Thank you for your service, and wish me good luck when I get am there saving lives.
I had thoughts of joining the CG when I was a teenager. Good luck, stay humble and always keep God first.
It takes a special kind of man. (or woman). Go get it. Good luck!
You can do it!
You must be close to 15 now. It's pretty impressive to see a young person with their mind set on a career . Time will tell if that's what you do. Just finish school and try to be the best person you can be whatever you do in life.
Am from Europe and watching what these people do just blows my mind! They literally could be
putting their lives at risk everyday and that requires very special people who are willing to do that
for others! You people have my ultimate respect, you are rare in today's world. May you all stay safe
always.
When you look at their aircraft in the hangars or on the ramp, you'd think they were unused because they are spotless clean. Little do we know. Hats off to all the logistics specialists, maintainers, admin personnel and base support tech who keep this operation running without a hitch.
All aircraft have to be clean to fly efficiently. Might as well make it look nice while you're putting in the effort.
My Dad was stationed in Kodiak around 1960, as a Gunner’s Mate Third Class, USCG. The stories he told were amazing, and the pride in his service with the CG was immense. My admiration for the dedication and service of America’s safety net is boundless. I’m very happy this show exists to share the stories of this incredibly valued and often-unsung group of American warriors. Thank you for your service.
I didn't realize how badass the coast guard is, how hard they work and how many people they are constantly saving. Murica!
Glad to see the flight crews of the C-130's getting love too.
@@timgroves9715 you good?
Wow! It's so nice of Kodiak community through their Mayor to honor the COAST GUARD FOR THEIR HEARTHFELF SERVICE every year! Thank you...
The one dislike on this video is obviously from the guy that got hit in the head with the crab trap. He's still a bit confused.
lmao
😭😂
U can fry rye bi ut
Yessirrrrr
Now it's 24 so now it's more common to be hit with a crab trap apparently
I was on a mission in 1969 dropping maps that had been filmed by side looking radar to the Coast Guard Cutter Northwind. It was developing leads in the ice to assist the tanker Manhattan that had been re enforced to withstand the ice. This was to test the feasibility of tanking oil from the north bank to the east coast. The mission resulted in the need for the pipeline. We flew out of Elizabeth City to Tule Greenland to Innuvick Canada, and an AirForce base. We landed in Point Barrow and spent a night in Resolute Bay 60 miles due east of the magnetic North Pole. We had on board a Canadian navigator to shoot the stars thru the top of the C-130. It was a 40 day deployment resulting in a blown prop being feathered as a run away prop due to low temps at reseolure bay during takeoff and had to stop in Tule and wait for a replacement prop from ECAS. AE3 “Andy” Andrews, Scanner.
I remember the ports in the overhead of the flight deck for the old star Nav system, my technology is great now.
Thank you for your service!
Wow I can Only Imagine the Amazing Stories you have!
Thank You for Your Service!
When I was in my 20's I'd watch guys like this and think, "frack yeah, I could do that!" Now that I'm in my 50's I watch these 20 something-year-olds and think, "Who, in their right mind, would do something like that?"
I’m kind of the opposite. I’m sitting here in my 50’s thinking, “Why the hell didn’t I do that instead of the Air Force?!”
Not My Real Name well of course you’re thinking that... you joined the Air Force! 😉🇺🇸
I’m in the middle... ‘could I retrain and.....’ but not in Alaska. There are thousands of exceedingly dangerous places where winds half kill you WITHOUT freezing constantly. This is why I moved 600miles south. Places so cold that you can die walking home make life more complicated. And you end up permanently locked in this small town for half the year (because even the train got buried under an avalanche of snow).
Greetings from a 20 year old who’s thinking I could do this
@@nicholasphillips4320 get after it young man. You'll love it. Nothing more gratifying than saving a life. It may be all in a days work, but someone is alive because of you.
USCG.....AWESOME!
We all gonna pretend that there isn't a kickass water slide in that training pool? lol
God bless the men and women of the United States Coast Guard , everybody stay safe ,thanks for your service
touch and hold a clip to pin it. unpinned clips will be d.oaeleted after 1 hour.

Our US coast guard are Awesome! Not military based but out there to protect and save. USCG Rocks!
They ARE the military! They are just not heavily combat oriented like the navy. They also conduct law enforcement activity in American waters. Which is something the navy is not allowed to do.
They most certainly ARE military, and are one of the three maritime military forces of the United States and take place in all the big joint military practice activities.. They have fought in every war the US has been in and even have Medal of Honor recipient. During WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, coastguardsmen, due to their greater experience with small craft and waterways, manned most of the small boats and landing craft, as well as serving on bigger ships. (their own and Navy) Many, many coasties lost their lives in doing so. Because of this, the Coast Guard and the Marine Corps have always had a special relationship. Today, the Coast Guard and Marine Corps have the toughest boot camps of the military. They have even had Marine Drill Sergeants on Special detachment serve in the Coastguard boot camp at times. Why so tough? Remember, Coasties, are not just preparing for what may come, but what they will actually BE doing, lifesaving and law enforcement chief amongst their many responsibilities. Lives, theirs and others,,' depend on their ability to function under the toughest of conditions and stresses and it is mentally, emotionally, and physically demanding. By the way, did you know that the CG even has their own special ops team? Surprise, they do! Not many people know it, and they are a smaller team than their other service bretheren, and are not singled out for special attention in the media, but don't ever underestimate their skills, dedication, or military capabilities. Here are four good CG bootcamp links: czcams.com/video/jBtJet6kmZ0/video.html&pp=ygUVY29hc3QgZ3VhcmQgYm9vdCBjYW1w czcams.com/video/Xkjt2YAFqVo/video.html&pp=ygUVY29hc3QgZ3VhcmQgYm9vdCBjYW1w czcams.com/video/aYzTT6D5TQw/video.html&pp=ygUVY29hc3QgZ3VhcmQgYm9vdCBjYW1w czcams.com/video/IcHb5VFPvJo/video.html&pp=ygUVY29hc3QgZ3VhcmQgYm9vdCBjYW1w I hope this is helpful and interesting
Huge difference between the officer/crew interactions now vs 30 years ago. In my day, the enlisted crew in back were treated like inferior scum and the officer pilots never even spoke with them unless necessary....certainly didn't interact like they were normal human beings. The only pilot I ever rode with who was a true team player like these guys was Laura Gauth (previously naval special ops). Apparently things are FAR better today than yesteryear.
I would like to thank the Coast Guard, but I also want to mention a thanks to the camera operators in this show, you sometimes have a shot of them, and they seem to try and help when they can. An example in this video was the camera man helping bring the litter in the helo. great people. I may not be from the US, but I sure would trust them if I ran into an issue over ther. Thanks Guys
The sound crew too!! Always appreciate a video i can hear!
I found myself full of admiration for the Crew's that launch into the hostile weather and unforgiving environments known in that area, determined to do their very best to help those in need.
They literally save lives on a daily basis, and they are proud to be given the opportunity to do so.
On a separate note, that little baby was so adorable, and I can only imagine how proud of her parents she will be as she grows and understands their roles.
There's not a person here in Alaska that doesn't love our "Coasties"
Look at any other military base in that state....coasters aren’t in the real military lmfao
We love our coasties on the Great Lakes too
@@hsand8434 yeah bro cause the reserves are cooler😂
àppppppppppllll
I’m sure there’s at least one person you always got at least one dummy everywhere
I have tremendous respect for our United States Coast Guard. In Alaska and the PNW, we definitely have some of the finest, if not the finest Coasties! It's true that unless people live in an area that has Coast Guard presence, they are clueless about what they actually do!
I thank the Coast Guard for their endearing service to keep us all safe!!! YOU are NEVER forgotten, instead you are honored and thanked for all your love for humanity!! My son-n-law was in the Coast Guard at Golden Gate Bridge, a captain, and hearing all his stories and contemplating all the sacrifice and the HEART that he put into this, I can only salute all the servicemen that have our backs. Bless you all!!! THANK YOU!!!!
From over across the Gulf on Prince of Wales Island, greatest Thanks to our Coasties! Wish we could invite you all for a big Gratitude Potlatch too! We only catch glimpses of you as you rescue us & visitors from our big water, as well as transport critical medical in terrible weather where you're THE only hope. We ALL catch our breath & pray every time we hear a helo around here- knowing its serious bevause you're here, sendin prayers for you and those we likely know in peril. Can't count on my hands the folks I know who you've flown in to save. Thank you- such small words for deeply felt gratitude. Thank you USCG !
7:53 'Just the bare hook, just straight on the hook, then harness them down'. A humble man of few words is who I want saving me!
My dad served in the Coast Guard during WWII. He loved every minute of it. I am now way too old to join but if I could go back to 18 and start over, I would join in a heartbeat! Semper Paratus
While I was reading your comment... as soon as I read the "He Loved Every Minute of it" I began to sing 🎶🎤 "Loving Every Minute of it..." then I started to🎤🎶 re-read your comment... but instead of just reading in my head in a normal tone... I kept 🎤singing as I read it. I read your comment the 2nd time 🎤singing it to the tune of "Loving every minute of it" 🎶 I just replaced the regular lyrics with your exact comment. It's my way of 🎖 honoring your father & the others who have served Military, Coast Guard, Police, Border Patrol, Medical Doctors/Nurses, Paramedics, Fire Fighters, Bush Fighters, and all those who have risked their lives, spent their lives serving/protecting/saving others lives/our Freedoms/etc... 😂😅
Congrats on the farthest drop north! Great job everyone!
Tom Hogan lol
When there are thumbs down 👎 on videos like this I have to believe that its people that don't understand what it means! Like someone's great grandmother that seen someone get hurt or something bad happens and "dislikes" that it happened to them and thats what the👎is for. Not that they are disliking the good work done! Thank you to the U.S. Military men and women for your service no matter what branch. You sacrifice so much for this Beautiful country we call home! We appreciate you all!!! 💚💜💚💜
I don’t understand how people thumbs down videos like this, like it legit makes 0 sense.
X GameTarget X are you stupid or just unfunny?
A lot of times people dislike for stuff unrelated to the content, generally pedantic stuff...(too loud, bad editing, too much music, too little music, bad title, etc)
Probably mad because it was 15 minutes of content and 30 minutes of the same three freakin' ads of crap I'm not interested in buying, ever.
I got the one ad four times for 5 seconds. I’m not sure what about. I just count back with the ‘skip in 5, 4, ....’ maybe they wanted variety
No more dislikes because of a senile president.
Thank you guys for all you do and once again I’m so impressed with the level of professionalism. I pray you stay safe and God Bless!
every coast guardsman is issued an invisable seabag,, its full of all kinds of stuff,, named after coast guard cutters Steadfast,, Dautless,, Courageous,,.. we all can reach into that seabag and use any of that stuff to make it home,, as long as we put back into that seabag,, all that we took out,,
Really so proud of the US Coast Guard and grateful for them.
Every single one of these men and women are HERO’S. I live in west coast Florida every time I see there planes flying over I literally say a prayer for every one of them. They are really truly Hero’s and if I ever got in trouble in the water I’d be honored to be saved by them. ❤️❤️🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love seeing a badass woman pilot in the mix! God bless all of you who do this. I just binge watched 4 hours of these :). Riveting. Just in awe. Real life is always better than a movie. Hooked.
Just watched them all in a row myself, lol!
We need more. Only can watch re-runs so after.
You’re our heroes. P
These folks deserve way more recognition than they get.
That dude throwing up chill signs whilst being hoisted is badass.
OMG !!!! YOU ALL ARE MY HEROS AN SHEROS !!!!!!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL !!!!!!
Thank you U.S Coast Guard
Thank you to each and every member of the teams that make these guys and gals so successful...so many behind the scenes are responsible for all this to happen...and the bravery of those who put themselves out there to look after us all, is just unbelievable...there are no words...THANK YOU to all of you.
Amazing what these men and women do everyday! The US is lucky to have you all!
Old Coastie here '69to'73. The Airdales always got the glory and accolades. The rest of us small cutter sailors that got our ass' kicked going after deralic boats and body recovery, you never heard much about. Icebreaker crews got beat up pretty good too. Semper Paratus! While I understand if the Airdales have an issue with their equipment and/or bad weather they don't have life rafts, they just fall out of the sky, period and of statement. So maybe their braver than the rest of the coasties. I just remember being scared $hit le$$ a number of times
We might have never told you, but we knew you "black shoes" worked hard and were away from home a lot longer than us "brown shoes". It's a team effort. Semper Paratus.
This type of work is absolutely a dedication to the greater good of life and is something that should inspire you
Really appreciate this video. I was an EMT myself & the chopper was my dad’s from the 1950’s until 1985.
Coast Guards are the real heroes!! Big RESPECT to you all!!
Thank you CG.
I think of your amazing skills everytime I see Coast Guard sloop down St. Clair River either by heli or boat I know you got this... Thanks guys 💓
Finally, an episode where the Dropmasters get to dance. Drop/Load ADQ 1988-1991 and then onto St. Augustine, Clearwater, Mobile, Corpus. Loved pushing things out the back door.
"instinct and training took over..." Thank you for your professionalism
What a beautiful speech from the Captain at the end
"Alaska : where beauty is cloaked by danger" - uhh, I think you have that backwards LOL
So much respect for the USCG
Every Damned Time. Love the show, but that part of the intro makes me insane LOL
No, it's their spin on the saying. Alaska is very beautiful and breathtaking, but in their job the dangers they face cloaks that beauty. They focus so much on the dangers in their missions that they overlook the beauty of Alaska. That's what they mean
You guys ARE crazy.....Thank you for that.
22:55 "...the point where the boat was when they think they lost the guy"!! Sounds like the boat crew needs a little training on "man overboard" drills. And the sailor was not found!
This is an awesome group of men & women who give their lives to help & protect others. GOD BLESS all who serve.
It's fascinating seeing the difference in techniques. Here in the UK, particularly when the RAF had the job, the "swimmer" or winchman came up with the stretcher so there was generally only one lift. You guys sent the casualty up alone.
It's an incredible job you guys do, I'm in total awe of your skills and professionalism. May your God bless each and every one of you!
"It's all about being ready." The Coast Guard's motto is Semper Paratus: Always Ready.
I want a time machine so I can go back to my 20’s and be a Coast Guard swimmer!
I think i can binge watch this all day ---
I loved Coast Guard training. It was always a blast.
Thank you for your service! We are grateful to have the coast guard! True heroes! 💕
Excellent program...shows just what risks are taken every day and night by the USCG that are based up there..from what I have seen on another youtube video...that air station covers the northernmost islands of Japan all up into the polar regions and a big chunk of the North Pacific and the Aleutian Islands.... that in itself is incredible..
Except for for the annoying commercials and the tree minute recaps of what we just watched.
What a ridiculous format.
I was raised in Kodiak Back in the mid 60s to 1977 I liked Kodiak so much the people are very friendly My dad had his own shrimp boat I went out around the Island plenty of times The beauty of KODIAK IS FANTASTIC, God Kissed Kodiak twice when he made it . I lived out at Island lake the back side, Its still the prettiest place i have ever been,, GOOOOO Kodiak You lucky ducks . I mean bears lol.
I spent some time growing up in Kodiak thanks to my Dad's Coast Guard career... That's the swimming pool they would take us kids swimming in during PE class back in elementary school. They would let us put the survival suits on and jump off the diving board, it was so much fun. It's pretty cool to see that after all these years away from "home." The red twisty slide is a new addition 😄
God bless the USCG, and our fishermen and women too!
Wow!!!! Great Job Coast Guard!!!!!
Now that im becoming an older man i more aware of the responsibility and professionalism of the young men in our military when i was in the Marine Corps I really dint think much about it i just did it meaning the task at hand
I have such an enormous respect for the Coasties in Alaska. God Bless you and keep you safe from harm. Kathy, Iowa Sunday 12/6/2020.
Thank you United States Coast Guard for all that you do. You are very much loved. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Watching from Oz. U guys & girls are amazing
thank you for your service
They have such a tough job especially if they make a rescue in Bering sea. Stay safe
I 💗U.S.C.G
Who in the ever give s thumbs down, are you heartless
God bless you guys, you are amazing.
Be safe people God is with you!
Appreciate everything you all do from the rescues to the filming editing etc!!!!!
Remember this. All of those people that are rescuing you are getting peanuts for what they do. They are here doing a job because they are committed to savings lives. GOD BLESS these people.. When the boat is going down who are you going to call. Coast "buster" Guard. Alright a bad joke.
A round of applause for knowing wear your gear is blindfolded haha
A break IS a fracture. Jaysus! Every time I hear that it makes me want to shake them!
The crab pot injury is a lot more serious than first thought. When the human brain is rattled that hard within the skull there can be a slow seepage of blood that accumulates to the point of death. Immediate medical help is necessary. I hope he survived his injury. God bless the brave men & women of the Coast Guard!
I like how their pool has a water slide
I thank you Coast Guard for your dedication to excellence........ From a former Navy type...
That's gotta be the hardest part of a coast guard. Being called out on a search and rescue mission, and unable to find the guy, knowing he probably heard, or even glimpsed the plane in the distance, and you just couldn't find him.
Yeah, that's the saddest part of the story. They did all they could thought to locate him.
As far as I'm concerned, these are the best Men and Women of the Services. Bill "Big" Deal, I would be HONORED to serve with him as my Captain.
I salute all coast guard of the whole world. Keep it up
And god bless all.from chavacano
So handsome and lovely in their uniforms! Congratulations to all 🎉🎉🎉🎉 on a well served year! Bravo!
So nice to be appreciated and its so well deserved. Mr Mayor good on you. Captain Deal you have an awesome team of men & women under your command. Cheers and congratulations from Western Australia 🙏🙏🙏🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘
I don’t know what you folks get paid, but it’s not nearly enough. Heroes!
Training is everything! Over and over until it is muscle memory. And retraining every year.
As a flight attendant for nearly 20 yrs, I had quite a few medical emergencies. Your training just kicks in and you know what to do. The one and only time we evacuated a plane, the same thing. Muscle memory just kicks in and we had them all off, in 45 seconds.
All fine, except for two sprained ankles. Training, testing, and more training. And these guys have such better medical knowledge then we did. Just so impressed! Wow!
Lil baby and young family...beautiful AND two female pilots...wow
In 15 years in search and rescue I've seen many things, but I've also learned the hard way that you can't save everyone, and that is the hardest part of SAR!!!
I loved Beijing a U.S COAST GAURD RESCUE SWIMER 😊 OLD MAN NOW..NEVER STOP ❤❤SO OTHER MAY LIVE
You know, they're talking about only 350 people there in Sitka. When I was in the USCG back in the '70s we only had about 50,000 nationwide, and that was both the East and West coasts, the Great Lakes, the Gulf of Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, and all the rivers including the Mississippi. We were spread pretty thin. But the most people I ever served with was a 165 foot cutter where we had about 90 crew. I think the ice breakers are about 400 feet long with about 350 crew. But we did a lot with the people we had. We were always busy.
It's cool to see the "REAL DEAL flying missions.
Great inspiration for joining the Auxiliary to be a part of the best!
I want to hear the coastguard explain that they need funding for a twisty orange water slide lol
Lol. I wonder if they train in a local community center or something
I'd be inclined to agree to any request they made. Just 'cuz...
That's the on-base pool, everyone on base gets to use it at different times of the day, including coastie families with kids, it's important to recreate when you are not aviating.
Love the coasties! The last Fed agency that’s worth a damn.
I'm not demeaning the fantastic and amazing job these people do, nor am I so naive about the remote and inhospitable place's these hero's operate in in, but that particular distance is less from Brisbane to Perth. The difference is one is a freezer and one is an oven.
I don't think most people around the globe actually know how big Australia is.
It just made me giggle when I heard a flight crew member say "that's a doggone long way."
God bless all these men & women..
My oldest son was in the Army but he never experienced anything like this .
All of them are a very special breed to do that job 24/7 ..
Thank to all 🤟👍👊👊
Thank you Angels.
The Healy is a pretty impressive ship. She's the largest and most technologically advanced icebreaker the US has and is the Coast Guard's largest vessel, though Mr. Deal is incorrect in claiming she's the only icebreaker the Coast Guard has. They also have the USCGC Polar Star, which is actually considered a heavy icebreaker despite being smaller and lighter than the Healy since she is designed to be able to break 21 foot thick ice by backing and ramming and move through 6 foot thick ice at 3 knots whereas the Healy can break 10 foot thick ice with backing and ramming and move through 4.5 thick ice at 3 knots. Polar Star is the only vessel capable of breaking the ice that blocks the path to McMurdo Research Station. There's even a third ship, the USCGC Polar Sea, that is of the same class as the Polar Star but she is currently in limbo after five of her six engines broke down and Congress is dragging its feet on what to do with her since from 2017-2020 they were clearly more concerned with trashing the President and are now currently too busy trying to destroy the country.
"C-130 is overheard, how you going to signal?"
"By splashing our feet like ducks sir!"
Yes sir, you got in done!! Deepest too you !!!!
Coast Guard is my favorite Nikko Ortiz character
