- This Condor Boeing 757 made a stunning approach at Düsseldorf. The conditions were horrible due to a severe storm. The pilits of this Boeing 757-300 had to perform a go around first because the crosswind was way too intense.
Hey. Most of you know this video but I always wanted to upload this interesting crosswind landing as an uncut version in a single clip. It was a part of my crosswind video from Düsseldorf earlier this year but I cut out some parts of the approach. Now here is the full version.
Pilot - Attention passengers, someone is holding my beer and you guys watch this.
Great pilot out here and very nice difficult landing ! The crosswind must be strong to make a 757 "crab" this much.
not really. the key here is to keep the nose down which is professionally made in this case.
+Skyhawk you have to kick the rudder 1st to straighten it out before you touch the nose down or you may roll off the pavement into grass
am talking about not being drifted from the center line during the approach. for the tough down there are several ways to get it down and what you mentioned is one of them.
Spectacular.....the pilot never doubted for a second he/she could make this. Loved it =)
Who needs an adventure park. Crosswind and a sexy B753 is all you need. Good skills there, thnks for the upload!
"Quit releasing the left rudder, newbie!" :)
IOE= Initial Operating Experience... I'm guessing that this may have been one of the first landings a new FO did in a strong crosswind during IOE (which means he is being monitored by a training captain who doesn't let anything go wrong).
Thanks for uploading! Very cool!!
I work at an airport (GOT/ESGG) and so I've see one or two landings.... and I must say that the amount of crosswind this pilot had to compensate for would make most pilots do a go-around... Now, I don't know, maybe this was his second or third attempt, but it was awesome.
Thanks for sharing :)
Thanks for illuminating us novices. Had I seen this live, I would have thought something was terribly wrong.
Yeah, scary, but Bilbao was extreme as well! Great catch! Have seen your crosswind video as well, very well done!
Scary how? A very competent crosswind landing by a good pilot.
WoW! this is increadable, one of the most impressive landings i have ever seen with the condition
Damn, that left-side main gear had to support quite a bit for a second there. Impressive landing. Good job to the pilot.
Very nice drop and roll. Very experienced.
That was actually a nice landing job!
Amazing landing; great job!
Cargospooter strikes back. Nice capture, congrats!
That's pretty incredible! Nice video! :)
A little high and a little extra speed for a little more control, and kicked it around smoothly as it touched down. Looked like he also made an effort to get all the gear on the ground near the same time with the mains touching down first. Not too much tire smoke either as he looked like he had it lined up pretty good as it touched down. I thought it was a good smooth landing for the conditions. The Pilot is to be commended for actually flying the airplane. Great video, much thanks.
Waw nice catch and amazing cross-wind
Nicely done, IMO. A pleasure to watch these skills in action. I'll be doing 3 legs on a 757-200 in Jan. Love that aircraft.
Beautiful landing!
Nice landing captain!
Excellent flying.......my landings on my simulator in 737 are like this my wife says my landings are rubbish she has just seen this clip and she thinks my landings are now brilliant!!!....this is true airmanship.........
That was an awesome landing!
text book cross wind landing. well done
That's a hell of a deduction given that you can't see past the first 1000ft of the touchdown zone because of the dip in the runway and the fact that the perspective makes it completely impossible to judge either their distance from threshold, speed or, subsequently, their rate of descent or the length of their touchdown. However, having watched (and performed) thousands of similar approaches I would venture to say that this looked entirely normal. Job well done and totally within limits.
nose down!! my flight instructor always say it to me and after i watched this video i realized why the nose has to be down!! good job pilot!!!
What a catch mate
Cool video! :)
Very impressive this video, is the best of 2012 according to my opinion. Saludos
All's well that ends well. Bravo !
They wouldn't have landed if there was any windshear! was awesome crosswind landing!!!
Muy buen aterrizaje con viento cruzado... La verdad es que este tipo de aterrizajes son muy frecuentes, desde tu asiento logras ver la pista de aterrizaje y de pronto... pum!! el avión se endereza... buen video
Bravo very good landing
Cool landing
If you've tried twice and haven't succeeded, you probably start thinking about your fuel situation and about the alternate aerodrome that you chose, hopefully, with a view to a runway better aligned with the wind direction.
By the way, does this 757 porpoise just after touching down? Or is it just the dip in the runway that makes it look that way?
A very good landing. Congrats to the pilot.
THA'T'S AN AWESOME CROSSWIND LANDING!!! BEAUTIFUL LANDING.
well done sir =o)
Damn that pilot is good!!! Made it look so easy.
Amazing.
great cross wind landing.
Looks like some sick flying object, the way it was coming
Another pilot here saying it was just another crosswind landing, though perhaps slightly more difficult than average. And is it just the camera angle, or does the nose gear come down pretty hard/too soon? Can't see it over the slope of the runway.
Good job landing in a stiff crosswind situation.
thanks!
Hey Cargospotter.....how often does EDDL experience crosswinds. Am wondering if they have any plans to build an additional offset runway in the future? Love the vids....keep 'em coming. And if you ever find yourself in Netherlands and fancy a go at cockpit videoing, then let me know.
Woww.. amazing.. Pilots are soo on their feet!
Good commercial for Condor.
"We always get you there, period"
dope landing.
Looks like a kick-ass landing considering the crosswind that he's dealing with. Maybe a little rough ride once on the ground but hey...that's what seat belts are for.
This was actually a pretty good landing! It was just the angle where you saw it from that made out look kinda sketchy
Scary landing? Yes, but GREAT landing!!!
Wo stehst du da? Ich habe den Ort noch immer nicht gefunden😄 auf der Brücke? Aber die Büsche sind zu hoch😕
What a landing! Imagine the passengers on the left side being able to see the runway up until the last second before they would land. Freaky!
Nose down...inside cockpit .Pull up Pull up listen to me Pull up and then bounce on the ground good video good upload thumbs up from me
Skillful landing .
Scary landing? He's tracking down the center line perfectly, great cross wind landing.
Bravo!
could see that it was a 757 just from the picture...
Lovely plane it is!
good landing)))
good landing
almost looks like a vertical landing...good piolot!
He was drifting that plane! :)
Good pilot....bravo
Hey, what do you mean with "Syrian Arab Airbus A320 emergency landing" in the description?
what zoom does your camera have?
well done .....
gotta love the 757 with winglets
Looks like a good landing to me. I would like to know what the winds were, bet it was a 90 degree x-wind and very gusty!
You say that, but how come quite a large percentage of your videos have x-wind landings? Is it mostly in winter? :) Have a nice day
Is Dusseldorf known for severe crosswind problems or is this just a random crosswind issue
wing tips arch up, great design!
BRAVO PILOT!
That was an awesome landing given how strong the cross winds were. Scary? Maybe if you don't know whats truly going on.
Looked amazing to me, skilful
All the people commenting how this is just another crosswind landing......Well I'm glad most of them probably don't fly. It is very different compared to RC planes and Flight Sim you know? Where you get a second, third, fourth.......chance. Not sure if the pilot was incredibly skilled, slightly stupid, or both, but I won't take a guess as god only knows the situation at the time, maybe he had no option to go-around, maybe this was his third or fourth attempt. Nice upload.
MY question is whether this was in the limitations for landing for a Boeing 757
you being the expert
Like a BOSS.
Well done by the pilot ...
"Not even a gusting wind"? Then why all the pitch changes on short final?
Pure skills
a very good pilot.
Master
They were just a bit high on the approach, had a heck of a sink rate to compensate and landed long. Otherwise normal xwind correction.
That's not a "scary" landing...it's a technique called "crabbing" for extreme crosswind landings...considering the amount of "crab angle" the pilot was using and the relatively smooth landing he executed, that individual has some mad flying skills!
what was so scary about that? the pilot handled it like a pro
Excellent Slide slip crab landing.
I would fly with that pilot any day!
Land on one wheel, bring it straight and land other wheel, push the nose down quick, easy on small plane but one that size needs a bit more skill. Best way to beat the cross winds.
i bet the pilots like "fuck it, still landed"
That's not what I said, but being a CFI with 900 hours, I can tell you for sure, the faster approach speed resulted in the round-out and the flare especially to be non-existent which means a flat/ nose wheel touchdown....
What do you find most scary??? The plane or the landing??? You are easily scared. That was a very skilled landing. I would be complementing the pilots.
Well I highly doubt that 757 was on a 3° glidepath considering the negative angle when we look at the nose, and that even with full flaps. I did not talk about speed, and even though it is hard to judge from this perspective it looks like he landed well beyond the thousand foot markers and with a sideload.
One which was pushing the limits of both the aircraft, and the pilot. In light aircraft that's every day practice virtually, not in an airliner.
This landing reminds me of when i first played fsx.
TIL that "Scary" is a synonym for "Routine".
What's so scary about it - the pilot was obviously very skilled....
Definitely handflying but no ILS. At this point it's all visual.
Possibly there are no gusts at this particular moment, either that or the pilot is doing an excellent job of keeping aligned. But to me rough air is the only explanation for the pitch changes. Why else would the sink rate be so unstable?
Anyway, if you look at the longer video of which this is an excerpt you'll see that it was very gusty indeed on that day.
Great pilots.
In Portugal, Azores, this kind of landing it's routine...
And what was scary. It was a beautiful landing
Max K. Might not have been scary for you, but what about the passengers? Some on that plane will have had a fear of flying. The sensation of turbulence while inside the aircraft feels much worse than it looks.
+Bare haggid It made one plane flip over my table XD
