It’s time for a mega five-way electric car drag race!
We’ve got some of the hottest EVs from Tesla, BMW, Audi and Kia(!) going head-to-head over the quarter-mile to see which is quickest!
So let’s see how these EVs compare. Starting with Teslas, we’ve got our hands on the Model 3 Performance and Model X Performance. The Model 3 has dual electric motors which combine to produce 460hp and 660Nm. It weighs in at 1,844kg and costs around £61,000.
As for the Model X, it also comes with dual electric motors which can put down 778hp and 1,140Nm. It’s a whole lot heavier than the Model 3, at 2,485kg, and it costs around £101,000.
The BMW is the iX M60. It’s also equipped with two electric motors that can produce 619hp and 1,100Nm. It’s the heaviest car in this line-up, at 2,584kg, and it’s also the most expensive, costing £117,000!
We’ve also got our hands on Audi’s most powerful car, the RS e-tron GT. With two electric motors, it can put down 646hp and 830Nm. But despite not being an SUV it’s still pretty heavy, coming in at 2,347kg. A new one will cost £115,000.
And then finally we have the Kia EV6 GT. Its dual electric motors can put down 585hp and 740Nm. It tips the scales at 2,200kg, and it costs a similar amount to the Model 3, at £62,500.
So the Model X Performance has the most power, so it should be an easy victory, right?! There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE! - Auta a dopravní prostředky

Exactly!!!
Yes!
The Model X has the by far the most hp per metric tonne and came last, (engine torque per tonne is still the model X but that isn’t relevant to a drag race) I doubt it is down to the SUV’s being as sleek as a brick at those speeds. Either the Model X figures are made up or the software is hampering it.
@@behavedave could just be that tesla's aren't great cars, but aero would play a big role. - still would be nice to see power-to-weight ratio
Can't you do it by yourself lazy cows?
In one of carwows other videos the model x performance ran 11.9 in the rain. So either the guy in the Model X didn’t know how to use launch control or it was at like 20% SoC. The Model X Performance typically runs low 11s and has been as fast as high 10s in perfect conditions. 12.5 on dry pavement means the guy was just lifting off the brake and then pressing the accelerator.
I agree. Makes no sense for the Model X Performance to be that slow and it seemed to be speed limited as well.
It was trailered to the event so started the race with nearly 100% SOC but took nearly 30 minutes to pre condition the battery for Ludicrous + for the first race. It just wouldn't engage properly at any time.
@@graemecollie9233 Now that you say that my P100D is sometimes a little finicky when in ludicrous +. But due to the long wait times I really only ever put it in + when I’m taking someone for a ride for the first time or when I’m at the track. It will still do a launch control launch when in regular ludicrous mode. Just stand down on the break (mine won’t engage unless I’ve got the brake basically pressed to the floor) and then the stand down on the accelerator. A second or two later a message will pop up on the cluster saying launch mode enabled, release the brake and off you go. Next time I’m at the track I’m going to see what the difference between ludicrous and ludicrous + really is.

I think Kia is gonna sell a shitload of that car, especially at that price compared to the others. Very impressive.
If they can only make a lot of them. They will likely be production-constrained for a long time. It’s a shame really because it’s a great car. Tesla and BYD are the only ones able to make EVs at scale.
@@lemongavine I just hope that they aren't selling them at a loss like most OEMs have been doing consistently. Because if that was the case, then they probably wouldn't want to sell too many.
@@Muskar2 Kia sells at a loss and the dealer makes thousands on each. Doesn’t seem fair, does it?
1 this race is staged as all of there races lol. To Kia will sell a shitload because people are stupid lol that is a plastic can driving at fast speeds it is also the lease safe car out of all of them ... There's a reason they used 6 year old Tesla's to race the 2023 Kia EV6 GT lol

The performance per dollar/pound/whatever for the Model 3 Perf and the Kia EV6 GT is _insane_ . They have the acceleration of supercars for less than 6-figures.
The EV6 has the benefit of HP (which is torque at a higher RPM, sort of). The Audi has the benefit of the 2-spd gearbox, so it can get better high speed performance.
The Model X was probably dealing the motors or batteries overheating by the time you got to the roll races. The old Model S/X batteries and drivetrains are kind of known for having pretty insufficient cooling. They’re good for a few hard pulls or maybe one lap, then they overheat and derate.
Had me beaming with smile throughout the whole video. Pure comedy from a bunch of car enthusiasts. 👍🏼
Love it with Daniel, as a German its so fun to hear what he is actually saying and what its translated to
The fact these cars are all that fast makes it difficult to really judge what is even fast anymore.
Like 12.5s quarter mile being last is still really good
Yep, those are some very fast times a decade or so ago.
@@GoldenCrocA decade ago? You mean currently lol. You still have New R8’s, 911’s, McLaren 570’s, Aston Martins, C8 Corvettes, M3/4s, etc hitting 10.8-11.4 second 1/4 miles. And most of those would barely win a 0-60 race between the EVs. These EV cars are within tenths of a second close to modern day “super cars”. I’d say they’re pretty damn fast. Also consider MOST everyday ICE cars still reach the 1/4 mile in well over 13 seconds.
@@jabariphillips8855 Well, I was including the 12.5 time the OP specifically mentioned in that, and thats about inline for a nice sportscar of a decade or so ago, like a corvette. Daniel is clearly much more confident and amusing than he was. Awesome to see him settling into his role!
He is even better in the German videos before carwow.
I think, the EV6 might even be quicker. They have used the GT-mode. As tested in Korea, the quickest mode for drag race is the drift mode (0-100 in 3.0 - 3.2 seconds).
In station B, they got 2.98 s in drift mode
Model 3’s have received an over the air software update giving them 5% more power & range. I’ve seen times for Model 3 Performance of 0-60 in 3sec and 1/4 mile times of 11.5sec.

There's something up with that Model X. There's no way the Model 3 Performance beats it. The Model X Performance does the 1/4 in 11.2 seconds. The model 3 Performance in 11.5 seconds. So I need answers Matt.
Yeah but then again MX is old tech an needs a high SoC.
They used an old model x. They always find a way as to not make tesla shine.
Agreed, they need to have better support on the Tesla front. They used an older Model 3 too...

Yeah I know it's an older gen Model X and that the plaid would destroy them all but even so that year model X performance is still faster than that. Something was going on with it. P100D MODEL X with Cheetah 🐆 mode is faster than a Model 3 Performance.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally I think they’re hideous. Way over stylized and will look dated much sooner then other more timeless designs. In some ev's. A lot of the newer designs (the Audi for instance) keep acceleration pretty stable down to sub 25% and can do it time after time. Tesla do it the other way around with them going past the stress levels the components can take for one or two launches (in ludicrous) then having to really reel it in for a while afterwards.
Which is better is a matter of opinion. More consistent but not ultimately as fast as possible or qualifying mode then back off?
Older Tesla designs like the model X also do drop off as battery percentage goes down but if it needs to be over 95% for full performance thats not realistic for most of the time anyway so as long as they were all over around 50% its a fair test.
Was the Kia using the GT button, didn’t hear that get mentioned. Also would be very good to know state of charge. Has a huge impact on performance on some cars.
