Thanks! I wasn't sure if a PWDs muzzle is trimmed back like a poodle clean face to the base of the ears or if it was just the muzzle, this helped a lot. 👍

Are there different types of coats on the Portuguese Water Dog? Sometimes I see them differently. Thanks

Hi Donna - what size scissors and brand are you using? Randall has an irregular coat - his head hair is so straight that it automatically forms a part right down the middle. Would you recommend thinning shears to give it body?

scissors are very personal. you need to try them to fit your hand.
i would not thin the hair on his head. real coat does not seem to take shape until after 1 year old. not sure how old your pup is.

I have a 7m old PWD CooperthePorty. How old should he be before his first cut like this. The groomer has being doing puppy cuts for now

Hi! We are entering our first show and until recently, our dog has always had a retriever cut. I’m a bit nervous about trimming the muzzle because of our dog’s whiskers and also because he isn’t accustom to us using any electric trimmer (other than scissors) in this area of his body. Do you have any advice on grooming this area of the dog? Thank you.

Would you shape the head of a wavy the same way, or do you cut them differently?

I have 10, 5fc and 4fc -- which of these can I use for my porties face?

i would use the 10f. forward and backward. this will be very short but a good starting point and all the hair will be same lenght. then next time use the 4f

@@ClaircreekPWDsDonnaGottdenker Thank you! Already used the scissors; they're ready for something else. So,Today was my first time trimming my two dogs (1 pwd&1 cockapoo). I couldn't remember the ears instructions -- so I just went with my eyes and gut; looks good enough; it'll grow back. did privates, pads, ears, face (w/scissors... my 4fc&5c havent come yet...). I'm exhausted but at least the important parts are done. Body/legs another day! phew.

Hello - Our PWDs are looking forward to swimming season. What is the best method to care for their (wavy) coats after fun times in the water?
Towel dry? Walk in the sunshine dry? Comb/brush them while still a little wet? Wait to brush/comb until after they’re dry? We’d like to minimize matting their coats. Thanks
