I grew up in a household where we bred standard poodles. They are BRILLIANT dogs. Don't underestimate one. And don't underestimate how cute they are in a puppy cut instead of that absurd fancy shave. A house poodle is adorable! Our breeding lass was an absolute diva. If she got her paws wet outside, or, gods forbid SNOWY, she would immediately run to the bathroom, hop in the tub, and wait for a human to come wash her feet clean.

Yeah I remember when I was a kid and thought poodles weren't even "real" dogs (as in dog-like), thanks to poodles shown in cartoons and movies. As an example in the movie 'Look Who's Talking Now' they made the poodle an annoying fancy girl who didn't like the mutt in the family. As a girl who loved dogs I didn't consider them very dog-like. Thanks to exposure later in life, I've learned what awesome dogs they are. The intelligence and temperament is hardly ever short from wonderful.

Honestly, until I met a friend that breeds, shows, and does sporting events with her dogs I didn't understand the cut.
It really does change the speed of a poodle in the water. The standard poodle cut is designed for maximum efficiency in the water whilst keeping them warm.
The only two breeds of dogs that I have seen more at home in the water are labs and newfies.
Labs and standard poodles share a similar build, but a poodle sheds A LOT less.

No gross beard gunk or waterfalls after a drink. Banded puff tail? That gets rid of the part that is usually the most matted. Clean feet? Yeah they're fussy to do but they get rid of all the mats between the toes, make it easier to wipe before they come in and are great if your pup is prone to foot yeast outbreaks or picking up burrs

Didn't know that. Thank you! I thought they were interchangeable terms, but having said that, I've only ever used hair for my dogs: greyhounds - short-haired, not 100% allergen free, but pretty close to it. Probably as much to do with their skin as their hair, because they can dry out if you're not careful, especially in winter. Adding a spoon of olive oil or cod liver oil to their food can help (they *love* the latter!). I occasionally feed him tuna in sunflower oil, which doesn't get drained, and is mixed up in his complete dog meal.
Reducing the amount of meal when they stop racing is a good thing to do (I reckon it's the same for older dogs as they slow down irrespective of breed) because they can develop kidney stones if their amount goes over 16% protein. So we take some higher protein "crunchies" out and replace it with wet food, which only usually has between 6-9% protein.
Our old blue boy, the most stoic dog I've ever known, didn't let on he wasn't feeling good, despite him being fine with vets. This one day we had no idea at all that he was feeling bad. We only discovered the blood-covered stone when he passed it, and he screamed like a human! (No exaggeration, I thought one of my toddlers has been scared to death!) Poor boy must have been in agony, as it wasn't exactly small! So be careful if you have older dogs.

My grandparents would do a similar cut on their standard poodle. POODLES ARE THE BEST DOGS. I find it so frustrating that people discriminate against them. I love all dogs, but I seriously love a standard poodle. We lived with my grandparents on and off growing up, and their two poodles were the best. The mini came later, but their standard was around from the time I was born, until I was 13 years old. There are many pictures of the two of us, both babies together. He was a great dog. Of all the grandchildren, I was the most heartbroken when he died. I was the only grandchild who really saw him as _my_ dog, not just my grandparents’ dog. He is the dog that taught me as an infant to love dogs. He was my companion always. He came with us when my grandfather walked me to school. He once got excited and knocked me off my bike into a bunch of ivy but I found it funny. He was gentle with every baby in our family. The best dog.

He was perfect. There is no dog better then the poodle. We had two toy poodles and they were the joy of my life. So obedient and so full of life. Thanks for sharing. He is not only beautiful but such a gentleman. 💙💙

My standard poodle passed away several months ago, and honestly there are very few other breeds that I would choose to have over a poodle. I would definitely get another. They’re my absolute favorite.

He's beautiful! Over the past couple years I've started to really appreciate Standard Poodles specifically, and it's definitely a breed I'd think about getting one day. They're fantastic dogs.

Get Two. They are easily bored and having a partner keeps the worst of their bordedom in check. They are not mean or so when bored. They get creative. Very, very creative

When I did dog walking, the miniature poodle I walked was probably the most delightful dog I've met and I owned a golden retriever(who I loved). An adorable wee beast with a big personality and tons of loyalty. I always thought of them as froo-froo dogs but I was really wrong.

my late godmother always had a poodle for the entire length of time I knew her. first it was Chanel, a chocolate standard poodle, who was with her for many years. when Chanel crossed the rainbow bridge, my godmother adopted a toy poodle named Sophie from the local shelter, who was her constant companion until she fell ill with the illness that ultimately took her from us. Sophie was taken in by my godmother's son and his family, so was well taken care of, and to the best of my knowledge is still with them today. not wanting my godmother to be lonely, when I found out she was sick, I bought her a poodle plush that she could keep with her always. it was by her side when she passed.

Omg… yes Standard poodles are the best breed ever! I miss my Standard poodle, he was the kindest, greatest dog ever. He unfortunately died of a seizure. Then, of course, we went from a friendly, loving stranger dog, to a GSD three years later… not the smartest choice ever. But my GSD does remind me of Boomer (The Name of the Standard Poodle.) with the loyalty and such.

I adore a poodle! I never gave them much thought before becoming a groomer, but now I get so many doodles with horrible and boring coats that an actual poodle booking in makes me squeal on delight! Got to do clean face and feet on a six month old miniature last month, I was completely in love. As soon as I can afford to I am buying a toy poodle and if she'll put up with it let me creative grooming side run wild! Pom poms here we come!

Poodles are my favorite. I had several standards but when we we lost our last standard boy, Zack, we got 2 minis as I groom and have gotten too old for the care requirements for the big Poodles. The standards are not as affectionate as our minis but they all live to play, snuggle, and be with their humans. Thank you for featuring a standard. I truly enjoy your videos.

I have an apricot toy poodle who is 15 years old and so rotten! Every place we have lived, everyone knows Molly, because she's got that intelligent personality thing that poodles have, so she makes friends easily.
    Love your channel!
Side note, I have hurt my back and was trying to stand up, and I involuntarily emitted a loud OOOOOOH. My dear son in the next room quipped, are you singing the song of your people, mom? He loves your channel, too.

Poodles are my spirit animals. I've had 2 in my life (who btw lived until their 17 and 16) and you bet when I move to a larger house I'll get another one! They are the sweetest, most intelligent, caring and peaceful dogs ever.

I have a standard poodle and groom him myself. It takes me hours just to dry him, but he's so wonderfully patient about it. To him, it's great because he's just the right height when on the table to put his head on my shoulder for cuddles.
Can confirm, best dog ever! My family used to breed huskies when I was a kid, and I was not prepared for how well-behaved my poodle would be.

A friend of my dad had a poodle ever since I've been a kid. She was a small golden girl, and came from a time when it was still "standard" to cut off parts of some breeds tails as a "fashion", so growing up I thought all poodles hat very short, cute bear tails (in my country this had only been outlawed in 2005). She had always been a very playful but loyal dog, and loved her "mom" a lot.
Edit: Also, I love how you styled his legs. Bring back the bell-bottoms 😂

Poodles are such wonderful dogs, in all sizes! And also, the "show cuts" for them originate from them being used to hunt waterfowl! Ive never seen them as "froufrou" dogs really, just elegant and strong. They're naturally very beautiful, and also hardy as hell.

A friend of mine keeps standard poodles he acquires as adult rescues from shelters. His current pride and joy is a virtual giant, something like 110 pounds. Lots of personality, fairly intimidating watchdog when strangers approach the door, but friendly and playful with anyone he knows. Not a frou-frou dog at all.

Poodles also make excellent service dogs. Not only because of their temperament but also because they are hypoallergenic and typically aren't barkers.
