    When you look at the condition of his body, and how calm and tolerant he is, I'm guessing his coat is the ONLY neglected thing about that good boy!

    • @Arcanadragon
      @Arcanadragon Před 6 měsíci +44

      I concur completely - especially after considering how dangerous it is to anesthetize a pet. Obviously, anesthesia must be used for major procedures like surgeries and other medical emergencies, but the mortality rate of pets that receive anesthesia - even just anesthesia to hold them still for grooming - is disturbingly high. I didn't know this until recently, but I couldn't agree more that anesthetizing a pet is far too risky to even _consider_ for a simple grooming routine like this one was!

After they were led to the consulting room, I told the vet that I would pay her bill, - regardless of cost. God has blessed me. The look on that old lady's face when she came out to pay her bill and learned that an anonymous donor had paid her bill, - was priceless 🙂. We can all do acts of kindness for each other. I only have a cat to look after and she is thankfully healthy at the moment, but I still feel terrible I haven't been able to bring her to her annual vet appointment and I know it would be incredibly hard to keep living if she was taken away from me.

      Why don’t you get a pet insurance? When I used to live in Canada, we had pet insurance. I bought a plan as soon as I bought my cat from a breeder. You pay affordable monthly premium and they cover your cat or dog for needed medical bills. It can get quite expensive when they get sick so it’s always a good idea to get a pet insurance. My cat luckily lived for 21 years without any major illness. But I had pet insurance throughout his lifetime.

      Vanessa’s superpowers are complete empathy with the dogs, and a complete absence of fear of dogs. Animals can tell if you’re nervous or calm, and they act accordingly. It’s rational on their part: If people are tense and worried, they figure there’s danger around. If people are relaxed and quiet, animals know there’s nothing to fear.

I have no more best friends. It’s hard not having a best friend but if there’s not enough money to give them the absolute best care, it’s not right. My babies were literally left in my yard, one was born there while I worked hard to save cats dumped irresponsibly in my yard. I did my best for 30 years, 15 yrs for each. I am SO thankful for your attitude towards some of your clients and the awareness that we don't always know what they're going through. As you said, they managed to get their dog groomed in the end, despite some road blocks. He was a really good boy, who gave you hardly any resistance. But when he was fussy about havin his feet done he made me think of a page that used to pop up in my suggestions of a farrier in China who took care of donkeys who were, often times, very neglected. When you have a dog who doesn't want you to touch his feet that's one thing. But this man held on to the donkey's foot no matter how much it tried to kick him off. I can't even imagine what kind of strength it takes to do that! And quite often he would stand with his back to the donkey's head, and the leg berween HIS legs. So if he wasn't able to hold on tightly enough, the consequences could have been - ah - breathtaking! So when the next dog doesn't want you to hold onto his/her foot, remember that a certain Chinese farrier holds on at the risk of never again having any children! Great work Vanessa! I always look forward to discovering more of your grooms.

The fact that you help people and their dogs free of charge is stupendous. You are so kind and patient with the dogs. Thank you for being you and helping others who are in need. Groomer here to co-sign…doodles definitely tend to be more difficult for grooming (regardless of size). He was such a good boy it was incredible to watch. It seems like he was getting very regular maintenance before his owners fell on hard times and that could be why he’s so well behaved. He is what groomers everywhere wish all doodles were like.

    • @mygirldarby
      @mygirldarby Před 11 měsíci +3

      Golden retrievers are generally so very well behaved and poodles are well behaved as well. A golden and a poodle is of course different than a Labrador and poodle, but even with this mix, labs just aren’t aggressive either. Poodles, Goldens, and labs are not aggressive or difficult dogs. Why would you find them difficult? I'm just curious. My mom was a groomer, and she loved these dogs because they were so sweet, but of course they are a lot of work.
      Another popular mix is the aussie labradoodle, which for anyone who doesn't know, is a labrador, poodle and cocker spaniel. The cocker spaniel was added to make the dog smaller. A cocker in the mix does make for a higher possibility of potential aggression. Cocker spaniels have a higher bite rate than people may expect. My mom preferred the Golden doodles and labradoodles to the aussie Labradoodles even though the aussie is smaller, because they can be feisty even when they've been groomed regularly. Many Cockers have no
      Issues showing you their teeth when they don't like something. And they're not bluffing. They will snap or outright bite. The other issue with the cocker is they are no warning biters. They will suddenly bite hard with no warning whatsoever which is of course dangerous for a groomer. Cockers are notorious for this trait. I've never liked cocker spaniels for this reason.

      @@mygirldarby have an Aussiedoodle from a rescue. Her Embark DNA mix is Australian Shepherd and standard poodle, she weighs 40 pounds. (The rescue where she came from had a cocker/poodle mix. They called him a cockapoo. He was closer to 30 pounds.)
      The Aussiedoodle mix is generally a very high energy dog, I figure that was why she ended up in a rescue. That and being somewhat high maintenance with that blended coat. The mix of wavy double coated fur, and curly poodle hair can lead to heavy matting and requires fairly frequent brushing & consistent grooming.

    We can all fall on hard times, & I hope that Falcor's person is able to get back on their feet again soon. Thank you for all you do for the dogs, & their people in need! Falcor was such an unbelievably wonderful boy during his groom, & I'm sure he felt so much relief afterward.

      we can all certainly fall on hard times, but we should never let that affect a living creature in our care. I would've hand scissored this dog and had him look ridiculous with a home haircut before allowing him to get as bad as this. financial hardship is no excuse to let an animal suffer. the teeth of this dog also didn't look great. I'm glad Falkor is shaved down and I also hope his owner is doing better. at least with a full shave it'll be a few weeks until the next appointment is needed. Falkor's temperament is a testament he must have a patient and loving owner, and I hope said owner can reciprocate that love by continuing care for Falkor.

      @@TeenDream888 The fact that Vanessa, who knows more about this situation, tells US as strangers not to judge tells me that we should definitely trust her. @@NightOwlReader2790 of course she'd tell us not to judge because people can be nasty online. as a groomer she knows this is a form of neglect, however unintentional, but she's got a business to run and wants to keep everyone civil on the channel. it's okay to say that this dog was neglected and still be sympathetic of the circumstances, which I am. falling on hard times sometimes means surrendering your animal if you can't care for it or doing a home groom. I'm glad Vanessa was able to groom this dog for free and get to this dog before the mats created sores and open wounds. and I do sincerely hope the owner is in a better place. I'm sure this service helped immensely, even if it was just easing some worry.

    What a wonderful boy! I've watched a lot of hoof restoration videos, and it struck me as you worked on Falcor (FABULOUS NAME btw) that just like how horses show definite relief for what the human is doing, so do dogs. That sigh was adorable! And I think that the animals you groom can understand that you're helping them, that you want them to feel better. And this gentleman most certainly felt MUCH better. I sure hope that the owner's situation has improved (or will soon, I'm watching this vid some months after its upload).
