Getting the short part of my undercut shaved after leaving it alone for a month already feels amazing, but getting all that mess removed must feel absolutely incredible...
@Café Littéraire We don't know the full story of what happened here, its very easy to watch a snippet of a dog that was clearly way overdue a haircut, and we can all sit and speculate as to what happened, and throw accusations around or assume things but unless someone is a monster, no one would sit back and allow a pet to suffer willingly. I do agree though, the more you leave the matts the worse they get, and if needs be try to clip them out right at the start before they tangle worse, and allowing them to continue to get worse is painful for the dog. We probably won't ever know why they waited 16 months, I hope they can continue to groom him now, at 16 he's in brilliant condition so he's clearly loved.
Thank you, thNk you thank you! I hope the owner appreciates your work and lear to love their dog more. He might not have much more time and deserves so much better.
I found a lost one a decade ago that was severely matted and starved. Gave him food, water, a warm bath and had him shaved completely the next day too. Gave him a dog sweater to keep him warm at night. I've never seen a dog more happy and playful ever in my life at the time. It's like they know who their life long friends are. Many years and a lot of chicken and veges later we've been the best of friends ever since. I was never a dog person at first but seeing a hungry dirty rag follow me home changed something in me.
I love how you educate rather than shame. Of course, they are your customers and you want them to return but it's more than that. He's so lucky he looks like a perfectly normal, respectable gentleman after his shave, and not like a complete gremlin like some other dogs 😂 (of course they're all adorable though)
Yes he does. When I rescued my little guy he was an overgrown mess. The kennel clip I asked for turned out to be a full body shave and poor Rico looked like a big eyed rat dog.
The transformation from a dirty mop to a fresh pup never ceases to amaze me. You know you're doing good work when you have great, fast results like this without the dog suffering.
Aw I love this. I just adopted a 13 year old Havanese, and I've always had Poms and Pom mixes so this was very educational for me. She was apparently very matted with the adoption agency got her. A few months in and she's becoming a really silly and active girl after initially being quite shy with us. I fell in love with this breed fast!
I agree. I also noticed him being scared with the blow dryer too. The use of the electric shaver I can understand. However, I t hink considering his advanced age, the fact that he hadn't been to a groomer in over a year, possibly a towel dry in this rare case might have been a better option. He was shaven so close that very little hair needed to be dried anyway. The groomer may have been more concerned about him being left a little damp if she used a towel instead. He did look great afterwards.
I'm amazed this pooch is 16 and behaved so well. So happy that the dude is happily hopping around with the cameraman and having a big smile on his face.
Omg I have a rescue who doesn’t shed and I had no idea what I was in for. I had to learn about dematting and trimming his snout and bangs and he gets a professional trim twice a year. So much brushing. SO MUCH
I had a Cocker spaniel, I took 5min everyday to run a brush thru her hair and she never ever had a knot...much less a mat. It easier as a everyday routine than a struggle once in a while
We had a long haired cat that started to get matted when he got older (over 10) . My son watched YT videos and figured out how to fix him and shave him down in the summer heat. The cat loved it! He would just lay there and purr away while getting groomed.

I didn't know wet shaving was even a thing, great job educating people on different grooming styles they can have done that would be better for their dogs!
Debi Hilley on CZcams is a groomer with many videos on wet shaving and she has written articles on it. Theres still some wet shave specific safety to consider. You still have to careful with mixing water and electricity.

Even I felt ‘lighter and relieved’, as I watched the little pooch prance around at the end of the video. Well done @Girl with the Dogs, I’m sure you receive tons of “animal blessings’ 😇
My little fat bean gets same routine as my late angel (adopted at 14 as for "his last month", he lived ten years with me and his shelter sis ❤️give oldies a chance!) - bath once a year in gentle shampoo+ when rolled in stinky (grandpa fortunately too dignified to do so), brushing and deshedding once a week...or two (with the amount of pets and massage they get - enough) + daily teeth brushing for bean as she had tendency to get teeth plaque + a weekly one for grandpa with some gentle gum massage in-between. And that's all a "smooth" mutt and most smooth coated dogs need. My labbo hated the brush so we just used massage to check the skin and a special glove to gather the fur.
He's 16 years old ! Wow, he looks great and his mobility looks really good as well. I can't imagine how good he must have felt after his grooming. Thank you for helping this good boy and the information you give to all of us to help our dogs. 👍
I really like that you go for a nonjudgmental, educational angle when you get dogs like these! It would be so easy to get angry and shame the owners but education will help far more in the long run
Any YT groomer who publicly shames owners are pure trash. I have called out trash groomers who do this. They don't care about the animal. They only "act enraged" for views. They know that gives then views.
Besides that, they don't know what was happening. A dog could've been lost for a fuckton of time, the dog may have belonged to someone with Alzheimer's or dementia (happens a lot, sadly, and you can't really get angry at the people, someone should've been there to make sure their pet was healthy, but not all elderly folks have that), could be a rescue that was recent surrendered, something could've happened to the owner(s) on a short notice (accidents that send someone to the hospital and whatnot could easily lead to a dog just being left with some extended family or smthn). Basically, there's enough other reasons for this sorta thing to occur that it's just not worth being a twat over, doing that helps no one really. If a groomer or kennel caretaker were to notice things about a dog that concerned them, or possibly suggested that the dog was actively being abused or harmed in some way, they wouldn't just let that happen, they'd try to figure out what's going on and help the animal if help is needed (at least, any good caretaker or groomer would).
Most would say that dog had been neglected, and it is very easy to become judgemental. However, we have no idea of the actual circumstances. She took the absolutely correct approach here to make it educational.
@@exist4046 there is literally no excuse for a dog to end up like this. cool if you don't like people getting angry about it, but typing an entire paragraph to try to excuse the behavior of the people that let this dog get like this is honestly sick.

What a sweet little grandpa. I know he feels so much better, poor baby. 💜
He's so lucky he looks like a perfectly normal, respectable gentleman after his shave, and not like a complete gremlin like some other dogs 😂 (of course they're all adorable though)
like my dog😭😭
Yeah, like babies, dogs are not always "cute", but they're all lovable. ❤
This was basically a DOUBLE grooming - and a great one at that! The care taken with the matting on the end of the tail says everything. 😊
He seemed to be a bit scared of the shaver, but I think his relief of being let out of his hairy prison overruled the fear.
The razor also tickles
He was also shaking because of the change in temperature. Imagine how hot that pelt was.
It easier as a everyday routine than a struggle once in a while
I bet he feels like he's a whole new dog. I love seeing how you treat all the animals.
Sweet little old man! His relief is so obvious at the end of his groom, he must feel so much better.
We had a long haired cat that started to get matted when he got older (over 10) . My son watched YT videos and figured out how to fix him and shave him down in the summer heat. The cat loved it! He would just lay there and purr away while getting groomed.
You raised an excellent son! 👍Caring for an animal so much that he problem-solved and learnt a new skill, purely to help the cat be more comfortable? That's the kind of person this world needs more of! 💕
Please let him know that there are many people out here who appreciate his kindness and compassion x
🖤🖤🖤
Wow such a well behaved baby, he was so brave, specially during the nail clipping part. He's a cutie 💜
I love how you are educating us.
You also do it in a nice way without shaming the owners of the pets coming to you, which probably helps more animals.
Yeah, you never know what his family might have been going through, maybe they just weren't able to care for him they way he desrves.
@@penultimateh766 There is no excuse for neglecting animals.
@@Alanitoo Please shut up
@@penultimateh766 If you find yourself incapable of maintaining basic responsibility for your living, breathing pet, it's better to seek an option of boarding the dog or giving it up even temporarily until a situation improves. We can't know what the situation was, but this outcome wasn't correct for the dog who ended up suffering due to negligence over a very basic thing not being completed.
@@isayahsnow2767 he could have been passed on from a sick owner, you know?
Awe he looks so much better, must be a giant relief for him. And his little trot at the end is so adorable!
Hey! I was the 1000th like, nice
What a good boy, no arguing with the stylist.
I love How she educate people on gromming, animal breeds and stuff
You can tell the doggo knows this is helping, even though he's clearly distressed at points. Seems so relatable.
That happy trot was wonderful to see!
Yesss!
Sadly, I have groomed dogs in this condition. I would never had thought of shaving them with wet hair. Thank you for teaching this old dog groomer a new trick.❤️
I hope this darling is still enjoying life. You gave him back his puppy smile.
So sad that he was left to get into such a terrible condition. What a sweet gentle boy.
@@GotAnUmbrella Dad had a hunting dog and on occasion he would shave the fur from her pads due to hotspots or needing traction and I know he was ALWAYS worried about wet fur + electricity so he never did it. I wish youtube channels like this existed back then, it would have saved that dog so much trouble after coming in filthy.
Even I felt ‘lighter and relieved’, as I watched the little pooch prance around at the end of the video.
Well done @Girl with the Dogs, I’m sure you receive tons of “animal blessings’ 😇
16 years old and still he's got the bounce!
Once again you gave dignity back to a dog! Thank you for being a wonderful fairy dogmother!❤
He's 16, but still has such a bounce in his walk! Adorable!
What an adorable pup. I cant imagine the relief he must have felt as you removed that off him.
I think Havanese are the sweetest dogs! Thank you for helping this sweet boy feel sooooo much better!!!!
@@heidischultz6219 All forms of media seem to run on two themes: Fear and Anger.
He looks so much better and he is a beautiful dog. He took his grooming very well. Awesome job.
As a fellow groomer I would just like to mention how many good tips were given in this video! 😀 so awesome to see her extreme care for the overall comfort of this sweet old boy while shaving & double bathing him❤
He is so sweet and youthful for a 16 year old boy. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I rescued a shi tzu from a puppy mill that was raided, and he was every bit this badly matted. He was also this gentle and appreciative of the groom and bath.
That was one of the most radical before and after shots I've seen. He seems so much happier too!
Tell me about it! They don't even look like they're the same dog.
@@Khanmanlol probably could make 2 other versions of him with the leftover fur
As a cosmetologist, I can say that using clippers on wet hair of all kinds has its benefits, for people too lol. This baby looks so much better, good job. 👍 ✌🌻💚
I mean, whenever I get my hair cut, the barber always wets it no matter if it's clipped or cut with scissors.
@@moblinmajorgeneral Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure they do that because dry clean hair tends to be too slippery.
@@GeekGamer666 it’s also a lot harder to work with in general. Would you rather use a frayed rope or a tight rope
We try not to do it on dogs unless they are SEVERELY matted like this guy. Wet skin is much more delicate and can cut much easier than dry skin.
G_d, I love senior dogs. They're always the sweetest, calmest, & most deserving of kindness. Thank you for helping free this beautiful old fellow & give him a new lease on life.
I have a havanese. She’s 7. Glad to see I’ll have many more years with her
The little prance at the end. He is adorable and such a good boy
What a sweet old man he's gorgeous he looked very happy after his groom hard to believe he's 16 years old ❤️🐶
He reminds me so much of our family dog, a Yorkshire terrier. Unfortunately passed away at the beginning of the summer. He was 17 years old.
That doggie was shivering throughout.
Makes me think of my rescue he was very matted when we first adopted him
Looked like a lamb after his groom as he had to be shaved but he was so much happier after 🥰
Since he doesn't shed he gets groomed every six weeks
He doesn't let us brush him at home but at a self service salon he does so I give him a bath and brush when its needed then
Thankfully grooming him isn't too expensive
His cute little strut after his groom is adorable!
When he first walked in, he looked like Sprocket from Fraggle Rock with that face lol
poor sweet little old boy... he must feel so relieved to have all that matting cut away. his little show pony trot at the end is adorable
I love how Vanessa explains what she's doing and in particular why it makes sense to do it that way, contrary to conventional wisdom.
Hes beyond sweet and hes so lucky he has you to take care of him and help get rid of that nasty coat. What a relief for the poor baby ❤
Seemed more like a rescue than a grooming. Sweet little dog.
0:53 pull his ears and his tongue comes out. lol
He was sooo cute trotting after the camera man 😭🥰
That had to have been so uncomfortable 😣 I'm glad he feels better. He was so brave and sweet
Poor old guy. Thank you so much. Bless you Groomer.
He must feel so good now that his mats are removed and his nails got cut. Seeing how long his nails were originally I’d imagine he had a fair bit of pain while walking. Great groom!
I would imagine his toes felt bruised.
His little bouncy walk at the end 🥺 he was so happy
So lovely dog, I m glad the dog gets help
What a sweet little old man. He looked so happy after his grooming.😊
Oh my goodness 🥺 he looked like a little puppy after his groom, and he walked with so much energy. He must be so happy and feel so light without carrying all that extra weight
I'm getting a lot of clients coming in with tight mats too! I've been wet shaving for a while now and it's great that you are showing the benefits of doing it. Love your channel and your skills!
He looks like "Max" who was my parent's dog and who also had to be shaved once a year. Big difference! I'm sure he feels sooo much better. Thank you.
What a sweet boy,and you always get the job done whilst being solicitous of the dog.Very informative.
I lost my dog at 16 years. I can't imagine having him all matted like this. I hope this old dog gets treated better before he's gone
upvoting! not only he is a senior gentleman meaning it is more difficult for him to move around but on top of things he has been enclosed in this cage of matted fur
You realize this was during lockdowns? A lot of dogs ended up like this because they couldn't go to the groomers or shave the dog themselves. Some dogs can't even be brushed safely.
Maybe it was during lockdown or their own maybe their wasn't in a position to do so. I know my Nana was sick she couldn't get her dog to the groomer. Thankfully my sister ended up adopting her dog after a while.
He could of been found after his owner died or was a stray
@@iris5678 She said in the video the dog was never groomed before
He's a very youthful sixteen years old! What a beautiful, sweet dog. I love how he was following the cameraman around, so cute! :)
Awh, the love for cameraman from doggo was so cute!
Havanese are the sweetest dogs in the world! I miss my three amigos so much. If they bread well they live along life like this little boy. But the grooming is a must. They have a wonderful temperament but they love to follow you from room to room, and they don’t like to be alone.
he looks so much happier after his groom!🥰
He does, he has a literal bounce in his step. 🙂
i love that you always focus on the animal's comfort and happiness, first and foremost. it means a LOT to us, especially with those who have hyper/anxious dogs
Oh, yes! My (ex stray) dog has it, and it really means a lot🙂
Wanna know how messed up humans are? We gave wolves anxiety...
Omg his little skip walk was adorable. I love how you educate and not shame. You explain it in a way that makes us think “oh I never thought of that”. Thank you ❤
WHAT A HANDSOME DOG !!
❤🐕🌸🌼
What a precious lil bean! I can’t get over his little walk, it’s the cutest. 🥰
Poor angel, I think that how most of us looked when we got out of quarantine.
Sadly, I didn't look that good. And it took more than a couple of hours at the groomer to put the bounce back in my step.

The doggy was feeling himself after the glow up and went after the camera guy. Who hasn't been there and done that? So cute!
This should be a PSA, Now You Know, and added to the noontime lunch videos for teens in school. Wow..best one ever!
0:53 ❤ he looks like his eyes and tongue were squeezed out 😂 cute boy
What a good boy! He is so sweet and well-behaved! I bet he feels like a whole new critter now!
What a great little guy, I bet he felt like he got two years of his life back with that haircut. I hope the owners are in a position they don't have to worry about waiting that long again. He has got a great attitude considering he must have been very uncomfortable for a long time.
Oh poor little man!!!!
Thank you for being so gentle and quick in this difficult process!
Aww that one was so sweet! Thank you for giving people tips on how to help their pets who can't necessarily afford grooming. I guess some of these dogs would definitely not make it very long in the wild!
For the amount of pain this wee soul must have been in, he was so well behaved, bless his heart 💛💛💛
