I was NOT expecting the Professor Frink impression 🤣
I think that's supposed to be a stereotypical nerd/dork/nipicker voice
1:47 Yeah, when did Professor Frink get in here? "Oh, my glavin, TurboGrafx-16 is quite a joy to the hoyvin-flavin!"
Well actually it should be obvious to anyone who has listened to his podcast that he's a pro at the voice lol
That and Harry Caray
@@samholdsworth420Yeah I was going to say... he's been doing that impression for a while and I love it 😂😂😂
Nor was I when a FFVIII meme repurposed his “the house raises from its foundation” absurdity into the general plot of the game.
Surprisingly apt?
I appreciate Macauley's confidence when he declared "its better than Nintendo!" 😂 He said it with his chest and did NOT stutter!
Well, he wasn't wrong. The console is technically superior
He always projected confidence.
@@bobby4tw better? Or just capable of a few more impressive specs? "Best" has to include ease of use, games available, controller design, price point blah blah blah (sorry I know I'm being a pedant, but I'm genuinely curious how you meant it! 😂)
@@dasdiesel3000 If more of the PC Engine library had been released in the US, the "games available" matchup would look a lot better. That's where NEC really botched things with the TG16, there were so many great games that never came out here and sometimes their choices of what to release outside Japan were strange.
@@dasdiesel3000 As I wrote. Technically better. Meaning hardware specs
Wonder if Macaulay Culkin played Rondo of Blood
I bet he would answer if you asked him on social media.
It was a Japan only so unless he was a fan of Castlevania already I doubt he did

Love the new TURRRRRRBODRUNK! Intro!
YAAASS. He's back, and we got a Turbo Grafx game?! On a Friday? Between this and Now in the 90s, my inner child is loving it!!
Right? Friday became best day of the week all of a sudden!
@@mahanvazsilva112 And my favorite day of the week has always been Saturday. The competition is getting fierce
Ninja Spirit is also available as one of the games in the TG16 mini
More curious people need to investigate that as it is cheaper than emulation on Switch for that many games.
Also can use the multi tap!!!
I can’t tell you how happy I am to see a Turbo Drunk. My favorite system of all time - please do more ! This is awesome !
legend of kage + shadow of the ninja + ninja gaiden = ninja spirit
best analogy right here
I dunno I get real strong Demon Sword vibes myself.
@@oneofthepeoplehere I always felt Demon Sword was a sequel to Legend of Kage
@@nimaiiikun I played one but not the other and after looking at gameplay... yeah
When I was in High School, I bought a Turbo Grafx-16 when it first came out. I had a Genesis too. It's still my favorite time in gaming history. We would read the gaming mags and wonder which system would win out. It was the first 16-Bit war.
Ninja Spirit is absolutely wonderful!
Of note, this fine title is one of the FIFTY-SEVEN games available on the TurboGrafx-16 Mini. If you could afford one, if you could avoid frying the thing due to crappy electronics, YOU TOO can play this.
"This dude, having a nice evening by himself with his sword... "
Giggity.
🍆 💦
Amirite?
I was sitting here during this entire video thinking “wow, this is a much better version of Legend of Kage, even the music is similar!” I’m glad you mentioned it
With my tolerance these days, I seem to get Turbo Drunk from only a couple of drinks.
yay TURBO DRUNK!!!!! we need more! back in school when Street Fighter 2 just came out.. we had one kid in class who was like.. hey anyone wanna come to. my house to play.. Street Fighter 1!? everyone was like.. wow there's an SF1!?
And BOY were they disappointed, lol! It wasn't that bad, but was certainly a game that cannot hold a candle to its sequel, let alone the series it started. So weird they transposed the name... **especially** when Street Fighter was a well-known name already. One of my local arcades had the cabinet so I had played it before SF2 and knew what to expect. I was already good at it too, having arcade practice, eventually no one would play with me . Honestly, I should have let my friends win one here or there but when you're an only child you lack some of those instincts. Like how having a younger sis or bro would teach you to keep them happy by letting them win once in a while so they wouldn't stop playing and leave you without your easy pickings.
@@franklin12ap yeah it wasnt that fun of a game. some how I managed to complete it.. but Sagat and Adon were hard. two hits and you're dead
@@nimaiiikun awesome, none of my friends could beat it, I just put enough practice in, they were a challenge... Tiger! 🐯
The variety of weapons plus the turbo switches on the controller made this game really fun to play. We somehow had a turbografix at the time, and this was one of our favorites. Fun memories with this.
This game is awesome!! I randomly bought it on the Wii Virtual Console back in the day. That last level falling forever through the ninjas is a PITA!
this game looks awesome!!
I've never heard of it before. But I'm an 80s/90s kid. So ninjas immediately grabbed my interest.
Ninja Gaiden. Ninja Turtles. Shadow Dancer. Legend of Kage. Shinobi. The Messenger.
The music sounds pretty good too.
Great review.
Come for the algorithm gods. Stay for the obscure wrestling reference.
I can only hope he reviews Mort the Chicken at some point, so he can make the corresponding Red Rooster reference.
Awesome, I'm glad to see you'll be doing more Turbografx coverage! And what a game to kick it off with, I LOVE Ninja Spirit. This whole game has such a cool atmosphere to it, I can never get enough of it.
Man, I LOVED Ninja Spirit as a kid. I'd go to my local video store without any quarters and I'd just watch people play it. So riveting 🤘
"... before a bunch of green orbs come and murder him, and just like that, we're off" 😂
Such an underrated console, the TG-16/PC Engine!
so glad to see turbo reviews ! keep em coming ! lot of really interesting games there.
Wow. This looks pretty freakin sweet! I've never heard of it. I REALLY like the cloud backround with the lightening flashes and the fact that it was the first game to snag a perfect score in EGM is really neat. The Macauley Culkin clip was also very cool. Nice one dude!
Now this is a good way of starting february!
Ninja Spirit is an awesome game. Thanks for covering it.
Someone gave me a CD (yes, a CD!) with MAME and a whole lotta games about 20 years ago, and I discovered this game's arcade version, it was one of the best surprises in that collection.
I love your "ackshully" voice. When ever I do it my SO begs me to stop and when I watch a video of yours when you do it she just stares at me lmao.
Mad props for the Brooklyn Brawler reference! This is a very enjoyable game.
loved it from the first time i played it on my friend's supergrafx in 1991
Your friend had a Supergrafx back in the day? What a revolution in today’s nostalgia! But I suppose it didn’t end well with it because only 5 games back then was a selling factor and a failure to own
@@vasilas432 he didn't care he could still play pc engine games on it 😄
@@CousinHubertRetrogamingThis is what I do today. But someone still needs the PC Engine CD. Which Supergrafx games did your friend have?
@@vasilas432 1941, daimakaimura, aldynes and granzort
Yes! Give us more Turbo Drunk!
Ohh i have a friend who has it in his pc engine in japanese, it's amazing!
when he was a kid He thought it was the sequel of The Legend of Kage, and sure it was a close call!
Thanks for the review! Now I want to play that game back!
Happy Friday and have a nice weekend!
I remember being aware of this one when it was new, but I didn't know anyone who had the system at the time. Fast forward many years, and I discovered Legend of Kage on the Taito Legends collection and enjoyed the way it played. I was happy to find out Ninja Spirit had some similarities. I enjoyed it enough to not really be bothered when, a few stages in, most of the enemies kill you in one hit despite having multiple hit points in PC Engine mode. It's kind of like how Ninja Gaiden was super hard, but was just a joy to play regardless.
Game rules, was so glad they added it to the TG16 mini.
oh snap new intro! I always wanted a TG16.
ngl, I had my speakers off for the first second, and looked away, so didn't notice immediately it was a TG-16 game. As soon as I did, I had to scroll back to the start to see if there was a "Tuuuuuuuuuuurbo Drunk" intro. This made my Friday.
Only got to play TurboGraphics games at a Radio Shack kiosk as a kid in Canwest Mall. Loved it.
HELL yes. Ninja Spirit is one of my favorite gems that not a lot of folks have heard of. Legit the main reason that I sought out the TG16 mini.
Turbo Graphic/PC engine had some underrated gems! Ninja Spirit is awesome. my association with knowing it is there's a french musician called Duracell who did a Lightning bolt-esque noise rock cover of the theme song on the drums with sample triggers. its really good so i recommend checking out.
Ninja games don't miss.. they're usually all bops..
I loved this game. I still remember playing this on Christmas. I was so impressed with the graphics.
This game looks really good! Funny connection with Macaulay Calkin.
It worked very well in France because the brothers behind Ubisoft created a company dedicated to its commericalisation in France, Sodipeng (SOciété de DIstribution de la PC ENGine). They will sell the japanese games with French instructions added inside the box, just on a piece of paper. It never was as successful as the NES or the Master System but we all knew someone who had a PC engine, like me!
Thanks for starting the Friday off this way!

Turbo drunk is a funny name
Yes. The answer is yes. 😊 also, I was the weirdo kid with the turbografx 😂
Ninja Spirit was included in the bundle of games you got with the US TurboDuo console. I had a fair amount of fun with it, but I did wish it had more of a story and in-game UI to help flesh it out a bit more. It showed its arcade roots a little too proudly at times.
I'm always up for Turbo Drunk episodes!
TURBODRUNK!!!! Those PC Engine games were amazing! I even had the CD-ROM. This game was great!
I love when the TG16 gets some appreciation. Great game, I always got destroyed at the falling part lol
One of the first games I played on a region-free modded TG16 back in the days in germany. Still one of my favs. Finished it only once, because its so damn hard.
I loved my TG16 most because I bought it with money I saved whereas the SNES was a Christmas gift. Glad to say I still have both and both work perfectly.
One of my favorite games of that period.
This game perfectly exemplifies why Irem are one of my all time favorite game companies and why it's a shame that many still only know them for R-Type. Of their 3 arcade platformers though, this is easily my favorite and I would put it even ahead of the more famous/successful Hammerin Harry.
Nice! Glad to see you back, and with a TurboGrafx review, no less!
0:59 “Oh Murasama. The others in the village just don’t understand you. Don’t understand us and the special bond we share. But you, Murasama… know my needs…” *starts disrobing before being interrupted by flying green shit*
Looks legit
Love this game so much, one of the reasons why the TG16 is a favorite of mine growing up.
I’ve been turbo drunk before, but then I got arrested.
Looks pretty damn fun. I like all the ninja weapons it uses, instead of how most ninja games just do swords and shuriken.
We had the NEC Turbo Express, and it was really fun to play Bonk on!
Thank you for showing this, I never got to play it!
I had a Turbographix16 and Ninja Spirit was one of the 3 Turbochips (games) I had along with Splatterhouse and Keith Courage and I absolutely loved my TG16 console !
Ninja Spirit was Awesome ! I also traded a few games with the only other kid that had a TG16 and rented a few TG16 games from the one Rental store that had the same 5 or 6 Turbographix games for about 2 years 😅
Coming in with the Brooklyn Brawler ref! Love it.
Only us OG WWF fans understand who one of the best jobbers ever was
I knew someone with a Jaguar but not a TurboGrafx. I had the SNES and PS1 but it was still awesome to try something different. I need to get some of those old consoles and play the games now that I'm old enough to waste that kind of money lol. Thank you so much for all your videos, SNES and otherwise!
The TG-16 was my fav system. I later also had a 3D0 and yes, the Jaguar. Honestly the controller likely killed the Jag more than anything. It had some awesome games. AvP, Iron Soldier, Rayman, Tempest 2000, NBA Jam Tourney Edition, Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM, Flashback, Raiden, Cannon Fodder... and plenty more. I knew other kids with a Turbografx, but I was the only person I've met that also had a Jaguar... or admits to it, lol.
Good review! Is this the first of many Turbodrunk reviews? I haven't played much TurboGrafx-16, but this game looks like a fantastic action game! I've heard it was one of the best for the system, so definitely will have to give it a whirl! I don't know why Macaulay Culkin talking about the Turbo Grafx-16 and Arsenio not having a clue about it is just hilarious to me.
Good game. Never played it as a kid, or honestly recall hearing about it or seeing it in the arcade. I also did not know one person with a TG16 either. I did beat the game when the TG mini came out though and it was good.
Hell yeah! Two of my favorite games for the NES were Ninja Gaiden and Rolling Thunder. The PC Engine had Ninja Spirit and Shinobi, which were slightly better versions of those games. The console had something great in every game genre, if you include the CD games.
This is one of those games that's just......ya know.... *chefs kiss*
More TubroDrunk please! Love that system
Loved discovering this game on the TG16 mini, it's a great one.
Thanks again for a great review SNESGenesisTurboDrunk
Believe it or not, this thing had a port to the Game Boy, of all things; I enjoyed it quite a bit, and I'd like to play through the TurboGrafx-16 version someday.
I loved the Turbo Graphix 16. I also had the CD attachment. I struggled with Ninja Spirit in the later levels and could never beat it
This might be out of your wheelhouse but have you ever played Bangai-O for Dreamcast? there's intentional slowdown in that game and it's sort of used as a game mechanic. I have a huge soft spot for that title so I might be biased in my description/excuses but I sincerely think you'd have a good time with it. Great Video! Keep them coming!
I played the hell out of this game in the arcade in the 80s - great to see it pop up on SNES Drunk!
Hell ya more Turbo Drunk PLEASE!
I regret not picking this up for $80 some years ago.
I've been waiting 30 years to find out the name of this name again. This arcade was in the small town store when I visited my cousin in the summers. This game is great AND you can actually play the game when it's on the game over screen during the demo mode.
Love this game and all the ports/versions of it. Arguably my #1 or #2 game for the PCE/TG16.
I appreciate the Brooklyn Brawler reference.
Oh man, that fall with all the enemies are giving me GCCX flashbacks! Arino really struggled with that part haha
that episodes ending is one of my favorites, tbh
I absolutely love this game. The music is amazing.
Yes yes yes yes. This game is OD and off the hook. Impressive visuals and an amazing soundtrack to boot. Wish Irem would release their arcade classics again on steam lol
I think Macaulay wanted the TG16 because it's the one system that DIDN'T Get a port of Home Alone
Haha, not yet anyway.
yeah, great video and well done review. If you haven't played Ninja Spirit (and enjoy retro games) you are missing out. It's great!
The TG16 version? Hell yes. The arcade version? Hell no. That fall to the last boss killed my enjoyment.
All these other game comparisons but no Demon Sword? That was the very first nes game that came to mind when I saw the huge verticals with the climbing and platforming and gigantic leaps through the air while slashing enemies.
I was lucky to the nes, T-16 and the genesis. I freaking loved Ninja Spirit. I got stuck on that last stage and later came back to it to end it. I really just winged it, lol!
This game was SO GREAT! I used to play it to death on my TG16 and Amiga! I almost wish more people knew about it, but then I think it's just their loss if they don't.
Any good on Amiga? Arcade ports tended to be hit or miss (mostly miss) on that computer.
@SNESdrunk cheers from Chile dude , beautiful and awesone video broh
Nice seeing you take a look at some Turbo games. After listening to the recent episode of the Drunk friend podcast, I was dissapointed that Kelsy Polnik couldn't give you a good list of Turbo games to try. So here is a list of US HuCard games many who are fans of the system hold in high regards. All Bonk and Legendary Axe games, Both Alien and Devil's Crush, Dungeon Explorer, Bloody Wolf, Ninja Spirit, Galaga 90, Blazing Lazers, Super Star Soldier, Military Madness, Soldier Blade, Both Neutopia games, Aero Blasters, Jackie Chans action kung fu, R-Type, Dragon's Curse, Dragon Spirit, Tiger Road, Somer Assault, New Adventure Island, Cadash, Splatterhouse, Parasol Stars, Air Zonk, Bomberman 93, Chew-Man-Fu, and Magical Chase. I'm probably forgetting some but that should give you a good start. You should also check out Joe from Games Sacks review of every single US released game and Turboviews by spida1a on CZcams.
One of my top three favorites on TG16
Short answer: YES
Long answer: YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
While exploring the T16 library, this was the first game I really got into. Excellent ambassador game for the system. This review nails it all, watch out for those one hit kill enemies and that falling section is a nightmare.
This is one of the best games I owned on the TG-16.
Awesome! I’m playing this when I get home! And the Frink impression was based!!!
Not mentioned, but Ninja Spirit has possibly the best soundtrack of any hucard title.
There's also the game called SHINOBI NON GRATA, which was inspired by ninja spirit.
I had a Genesis and TG-16. As a kid, I felt the TG-16 had way more interesting games.
I still got this one. LOVE IT.
