Yeah that was a little elitist, I agree. Loved mine, ran FS 2020 1080p High at 23-27 FPS which is okay for a flight sim. Used money i had set aside for GPU on a new Ryzen 5 combo. Love both!
But that's true, unless you are fine really subpar gaming experience and excessive power bills, then keep FX, otherwise it's time to move on. Even a cheap build with B460 board, i3 10100F and 16GB 2666MHz DDR4 will annihilate any FX CPU. And whole setup is less than 300 USD.

I just had my 16th birthday and I’ve been putting all my money towards my pc for the last 3 years. I think it would be really cool to do a teenager edition to these videos since we’re usually on a tighter budget than adults but have learned to make the most of our money
How much money do you have stocked up so far?
There is a problem to that theory. Not saying you specifically at all, but MOST kids these days have setups that make my R9-3950 look like it’s one of the FX setups from 10 years ago because these kids order it all with Mommy and Daddy’s credit card!
us adults usually have a ton of bills and children lol. we are all the same amount of broke my friend
From what I've seen on other channels, you don't want the headache of your request... All it takes is one hard-working kid with a better system than "most" for seemingly the whole world going bananas, slamming out entitlement and jealousy-laden bickering and "shaming" the kids while having no understanding of their situation... It's truly disheartening. Sadly, that's the state the world's in these days; people more prone to disrespect than appreciate anything they don't understand...
But good on you Austinn, for knowing good money management skills as well as having the drive and determination to be where you're at with your goals & wants. 👍
Posiris not sure on the exact amount but I currently have a 2060ko ultra, Intel core i5 8400, 16 gigs memory, 1 tb hard drive (and a 250gig ssd for Windows), a 700w power supply, and a decent motherboard I forgot the name.
I built my brother's setup on an Alex desk. At first I was like "oh cool, I can stuff all the cable in the cable management bar, and don't go through the hassle I went through for my own setup !"
Then I realised that the setup would be centered, with the monitor excatcly in the middle of the desk, where the slit hole is for the cables to come out... And also that the PC sits half on the desk, and half on the little door that close the thing : If I want to acces the cables, I have to move the screen and the PC. That was not easy to cram everything in without it looking like garbage, but I achieved it, and honestly, once it is done, no need to think about it again...
... until you upgrade something. My brother had a 60Hz screen, anf wanted to go 144Hz. Fine, I mean why didn't he have one already? I let him pick one up online... He chose the cheapest "good" monitor with ajustable height and stuff, a LG panel. I overlooked the fact that the powersupply is not embedded into the monitor, but is an external powerbrick. So, I can't just swap the monitors keeping the same power cable, so I need to remove that cable, therefore moving the PC, etc a fking mess. And then I realised the powerbrick doesn't fit on the powerstrip to allow me to close the fucking door, I had to search for a freakin' power extention to be able to fit it, there is easily 2 to 2.5m of useless cable in that cable management compartment now.
Morality : Use the Alex only for laptop setups

Oh boy, my cable management in the miniITX would give him a heart attack.
same, but to be fair - if you have a non modular PSU it's supposed to be just a mess
@@Element0Hg Sorry mate, but no it's not really supposed to be a mess. You can still manage it very well, usually. Unless your case it two decades old, there's no reason why it can't be done.
I'm pretty new to PC building (Still in the planning stages for my first entry level build!)
But I have been learning so so much, thank you for havingthis channel
Like my laptop is nice and all, but I can't really play the games I want to on it! So I'm absorbing all I can before I commit to anything.
Jay, as a car guy, why the f haven't you done a water cooling setup with braided stainless and AN fittings??

That's just valuable life advise, right there.

I have an FX-8350 system and yes...its ancient, but still runs current games for me. I'd need to turn a few tricks to upgrade.
I have Phenom and Phenom II systems...that's ancient. FX is pre Ryzen, so nothing ancient.
@@CPyJIb, Damn Phenom and Phenom II, AM2+ and AM3 sockets, def ancient.

That’s my pc he’s reacting to lol
I would definitely watch a video on the basis of "if you are on FX you need to upgrade and here's why". Currently running an FX "8 Core" on a secondary machine :]
Just updated my fx 9590 about a year ago. You are absolutely right. Through the whole thing away and start new.
So I had a 970 and threw it in my ryzen 3700x rig while I was waiting for my 2070 super and it did amazingly I was so impressed
Brandon Mullen 970 is still a great card

Watching this for inspiration for my pc management. I’ll be sure to send photos when it’s finished.
Got the like for the power strip recommendation! Ive got a custom desk, and never though to use one of those long ones!
6:23 didn't Steve from Gamers Nexus say in one of his videos that he still uses and FX at home? Undervolted and underclocked if i remember correctly...
Yeah. Steve still runs FC at home. This feels like a start of a battle between the two channels.
Im still using a fx8350 with an rx580. I can play modern titles 1080p higher or medium settings 60 fps. Its still relevant for modern gaming
Yup he did
@@oelshami they've already fought it out smh
Hey now, I'm still running FX processors in my homelab. They work great for running a few k8s workloads and my plex server. I bought this stuff before Ryzen existed and Intel was out of my price range. I wanted cheap and relatively power efficient (compared to actual server hardware) homelab gear and they fit the bill (microcenter bundles ftw). And honestly at this point, it would cost more for me to sell them and upgrade than to just keep running them until they die.
CaptainRedHat they dont’t die...
I’m still rockin an FX8350 (though my Ryzen 3600X just came in the mail today) at 1440p with an RX580 and getting pretty good performance out of my system. It was a great bang for the buck cpu at the time that has held up well over the past 6 years.
Best intro of any video ever...lookin at you Linus. Love that Lil feller.
I took your advice and am finally ditching my FX-9590 system, and moving to 10900K. Excited to magically get 40FPS more in games with my SLI 1080's just from getting off of FX.
everyone in the video being ashamed of their 500 dollar pcs and me over here with a 60 dollar hp laptop crying
👍
first off most $500 pcs are trash for gaming. Second of all $60?
@@andrewbelmonte-russo721 its a 1000 and a tad pesos laptop my guy so yeah around 60 dollars
6:23 I'm running FX-8350 and GTX970 still doing ok with games =)
Yes, but you are not doing ok with Jay. And isn't that what really counts?
@Da Mighty Shabba There are hundreds of CZcams Videos showing you why it's a relatively bad idea to try and game on a workstation CPU (and more importantly mainboard). Watch some of those before you make your decision.
Also, out of the about 10000 new games coming out each year, only 6 (maybe 7 next year) are capable of really using more than 4 threads, so ...
Before you spend money, read some benchmarking articles and really figure out which CPU can give you the most performance per $.
Or get something close to a 3700X because that's what the next generation of XBOX & PS4 will use, so it's a pretty safe bet for the next decade.
Same but 960
Same - 8350 OC'ed to 4.5GHz with a GTX 1070 keeps my games maxed at 1080p 60Hz (monitor refresh rate).
I’m still rocking an 8350 and dual 970’s, all on custom water!!! Runs everything well enough that I play, at high enough graphics and FPS, why build a new system? I don’t spend $300/yr on all the latest games and try to keep up with the Jones’, so I don’t need top tier hardware. I think most of the tech-tubers have become spoiled a bit with all the access they have to hardware (freebies or income to buy outright), that they forget you don’t need to play on ultra settings to enjoy a game!
More of those vids please!!!
15:05 I have a similar build, so what you do is you cant take the back panel off but what you can do is just take it all out and measure the lengths of the cords. after this just zip tie the the excess right in the top middle. I have a similar bunch of storage power and it makes it look much better to hide behind all the other cables.
i live in a place with high humidity and dust, that thing IS dust, i dont have pets or do any weird shit and have it like that if i dont clean it
I need to check twitter more often so I can show y'all my gross ass setup
I ended up initially spending money on a (replacement) power supply for an FX System just to end up deciding to build a new budget computer and starting over (idle and even gaming temps were like 78 on the FX once things got going. A friend literally asked if I was trying to melt something, I now realize that the answer to that question was my PC). I passed the decade mark and realized just how old my CPU was when I started shopping for a new one.
Absolutely, an SSD brought back to life my wife's old FX system, (lol. I know). Cool part is, it's in a vintage case, black and silver much older than that. And no you cannot have it, lol. A video card upgrade to a 1060 also worked wonders for her. Goes to prove your point, that those two are the most significant upgrades. She plays mostly Ark and Conan and the difference it made was absolutely incredible on such a Dinosaur. Don't worry a Ryzen is in the planning in the future, I get it.
