I agree. Probably The most origional bass player ever... I saw Joy Division on about 5 occasions and one was the Derby Hall iconic gig where Ian was having problems that people I.e. me and Reg didn't know why he was going on and off stage. I also saw the first New Order gig with Reg. Ian was so Charismatic! Hooky is yeah The most origional bass player in modern times. I suffer with fit's and didn't know ian was suffering. There were about 200 people at the Derby Hall in Bury anx according to the Clossr film ian was still holding a day job down at the dole office. When you have a fit your brain shuts down and you don't remember anything. So sad for Ian. I saw Bowie at the Free Trade Hall In june the 23rd 1973 with Reg our first gig. Amazing! 25shillings. ( 1:25 )... Ian Curtis was such a great stage presence it was hard to comprehend how big they could have been. The music lives on though!

Joy Division were on the verge of huge success and as Hooky has pointed out they would have ruled America. I loved the way that not only did the band carry on but changed style completely. Blue Monday still the biggest selling 12" record of all time. Bands change. But it's the origional vynil,DC's cassettes that are the key. New order without Hooky doesn't work for me. My band The Chameleons without the origional lineup just doesn't work. Stay safe and All Lives Matter. Dave Fielding and Ooshka. Xx

I was so naive about JD/NO's early stuff that I thought Hooky's lines were a standard guitar - 'Ceremony', for instance. Now I understand how important he was to the overall sound. No Hooky, no looky.

Ian Curtis is the only lead singer/songwriter who actually encouraged Hooky to develop his unique playing style and make it the voice of Joy Division and subsequently New Order (that is, until 'the singer' of New Order decided to aurally emasculate his bass both live and in the studio, with a few exceptions, from 1993 until Hooky quit). Amazing story.

He can't even say Bernard's name anymore. It's wrong to be biased, but when you listen to Republic you can barely hear Hook's bass on anything, and during interviews Bernard would rarely allow Hook to get a word in edgewise. Personally I think Bernard Sumner is a egomaniac. He probably works better with Stephen Morris and GillIan Gilbert cos they just do what they're told.

Back in the 80s, I always mistook Hook's bass for guitar, so I never really understood what was great about his playing. It literally wasn't until a few months ago that i discovered that that unique guitar was actually bass.

Hooky is on to something. Even though he is not happy with Republic, that was the last great album New Order did. The newer stuff...its New Order but not all that great. If Bernard had Electronic and Bad Lieutenant, why be a jerk and water down new order? The new album was fine but there was nothing that compares to Blue Monday, True Faith or Dreams Never End. C'mon Barny! Let New Order be New Order!😕

The actual amp that Bernard used is VOX UL730... dont even bother looking for one, they cost 10k-15k because it is a very limited (hybrid) amp that the Beatles actually used it for recording. There is maybe 1 video about that amp here on youtube.
