always test both sides of glass in an inconspicuous area. Be sure to preclean and squeegee first to remove loose dirt and to inspect the glass to see if there are already scratches. Then scrape and inspect again. With experience you will be able to recognize problem glass before you scrape.

Therein lies the biggest issue for Window Cleaners - You make the scratches of previous trades visible when YOU clean them - Now the homeowner may think YOU did it - So best to inspect ALL before you touch them and notify the owner.
I'd even go as far to to document them and have the owner sign that they are aware there are scratches present before you proceed.
I've previously shown home owners the existing scratches or concrete and given them the option of whether I use a blade/steel-wool or whether I clean as best I can without them

ive scratched enough windows in the first 2 years of me working for others to know how to not scratch a window. i have the unger ninja with the carbon blades. the only time it gets dull and starts to not work and potentially scratch is when i go over a good amount of windows with concrete on them. you have to make sure if your doing a big fancy house to have plenty of blades with you. also i do my best to clean and squeegee the window with wool or similar product before i go to scrape the window with a blade. and while im scraping i use almost unneeded amount of water just to protect my ass. I just did the inside of a 1million dollar brand new home and had to show the home owner some of the scratches that the first cleaner put on the windows because of incompetence and an old blade. Make sure you find the scratches before you clean the windows! Pre-walk inspection!!

What do you do when the glass is tempered? How would you go about cleaning them?

Do you find that tempered glass gets scratches, door ways etc.? Are you using a particular solution? Surely one has to still be careful?

The techniques in this video are only for glass free of fabricating debris. On tempered glass with fabricating debris, there is the potential for scratching with a scraper and alternate techniques should be used.

First off, dragging the scraper blade backwards is never a good idea. Other than scraping along the edges of the glass, when scraping always use a vertical motion. That way if there are scratches in every direction, you will know its not from you. The technique here may be perfectly fine for most glass, but I would rather take every precaution I can to insure, Im not damaging the glass, and Im not being blamed for someone elses incompetence. Use extra wetting agent and preclean the glass as well

Just because it's tempered doesn't mean you can't use a scraper on it.
