  • It's your early holiday gift - the just-released full-color TRÅDFRI smart LED bulb from IKEA! Comes pre-paired with a cool remote to start having fun with colors immediately and works with the other IKEA products...and does work with Philips Hue, too.
    UPDATE: IKEA has updated the TRADFRI app and decent palette of colors can be chosen from their app. No traditional color wheel or more in-between colors, but it's a start.
    These full-color bulbs are now listed on the IKEA site - www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/pro...

    Got these working with home assistant and looks like the whites are there, and so is red and blue but there is no green. So magenta, orange and a load of other stuff is possible but no cyan or green.

    Nice that it works with philips hue!
    I got 4 trådfri and its okay. Not as good as the philips hue colors but it is good enough.
    Great videos keep it up :)

    Is there a way you can make the lights change colour on their own ?

    • @souljacem

      I managed to do it that once when i installed it without connecting it to the hub, i clicked on the arrows on my remote then it started.
      But ever since i‘ve paired to the Hub, it does not work

    Dude, kindly explain things through. Are you saying if I. Buy an Ikea bulb and get the Philips Hue App, that I can then use that App with the Ikea product? Don’t imagine that’s true.

  • @drees84

    Do you know if Hue makes third party bulbs, like those from IKEA's trådfri line, to available to smart home platforms like Smartthings and others?

    • @SmarterHomeLife
      @SmarterHomeLife  Před 6 lety

      I know that the 3rd-party bulbs connected to the Hue Bridge definitely do not show up when connected to HomeKit. Haven't specifically tested with SmartThings or other systems but it's certainly possible.

    Can you post a link to where you can buy these? Also, where did you say the link to the color handler? "and there's a link to it in the video description"

    • @SmarterHomeLife
      @SmarterHomeLife  Před 6 lety +1

      As mentioned in the video, these are not yet listed for sale on IKEA's website - they appear to only be available in their stores in the moment. Not sure if the "color handler" comment was in this video or the IKEA+Philips Hue video. Here is a link to the IKEA/Philips Hue video, and there is a link to the new SmartThings handler for this bulb in that video's description - czcams.com/video/lU9za1qlego/video.html

    Do you know of a way to use alexa with the feit electric homebrite bulbs. I purchased four of them to use with my own setup and I am having buyers remorse as I am at least of of now unable to use them with amazon's alexa.

    • @SmarterHomeLife
      @SmarterHomeLife  Před 6 lety

      From what I recall, the HomeBrite line are Bluetooth-only, and there isn't a way for Alexa, or even Google Assistant, to control those. Sometime in the future, when there are devices that can bridge Bluetooth to Wi-Fi easily, then this will probably become possible.

    Wait so does the singular bulb work with Alexa and can you change the colour from the app and does the just tradfri plain ld one change colour

    • @SmarterHomeLife
      @SmarterHomeLife  Před 5 lety

      The bulb itself only works with a Tradfri hub or other compatible smart light system - for voice control - or you can use it with their physical remotes to change colors, brightness, on/off, etc.

  • @brad7zero143
    @brad7zero143 Před 5 lety +1

    Do they have the RGB lights for GU10 fittings and do they come without the remote?

    • @SmarterHomeLife
      @SmarterHomeLife  Před 5 lety

      I don't think so. But, you could always purchase a E27 to GU10 adapter: amzn.to/2OnkyUr I think the RGB bulbs still come with the remote, according to their site.

    I am still only finding the ones with a kit...do they sell separately w/o kit yet? If not, that is not a good deal if you're wanting color lighting and none are available by themselves.

    • @SmarterHomeLife
      @SmarterHomeLife  Před 6 lety

      At last check, they aren't selling it without the included remote. IKEA thinks a bit differently than most. But maybe they'll change their mind eventually.

    • @SmarterHomeLife
      @SmarterHomeLife  Před 6 lety

      Not for this particular bulb, as it's unique from the other bulbs. But someone, however, just created a new handler and there's a link to it in the video description. It's so new that info about it couldn't be included in the video itself.

    Do you need the gateway or can I use a Zigbee Adapter?

    • @SmarterHomeLife
      @SmarterHomeLife  Před 6 lety +1

      Nope, not necessarily. The gateway is needed to update firmware but otherwise the bulbs are Zigbee and can -generally- talk to any Zigbee device / controller.

    • @Jgfdez
      @Jgfdez Před 6 lety

  • @JohanKesti
    @JohanKesti Před 5 lety +1

    I own two of these and use them with Philips Hue bridge. The fact is, they are buggy. They flicker hourly, and if you have a color set for that bulb, it will be reset to the neutral warm white. One of the Ikea Trådfri developers is on Reddit and has said that they've yet to identify the culprit for the flickering, but it's a known issue. There isn't a firmware fix for it currently. The flicker means that the bulb powers off and switches on rapidly, and loses its color setting while doing this.
    Had I known about this issue, I would've bought the original Philips bulbs. Frustrating, expected better from Ikea.

  • @moisie23

    You just click on the triangle made up of 3 circles and it brings up a selection of colours. No spectrum though.

    • @SmarterHomeLife
      @SmarterHomeLife  Před 6 lety

      Correct. They updated the app a few days after the video was made with this new capability.

    • @TheSeanBampton
      @TheSeanBampton Před 6 lety

      No, the three circles were in the upper right corner of the app in your video so it was *before* you made the video. I was screaming at my laptop for you to click the circles, lol.

      Scandinavia (thus the nickname..) hehe :D The color changing seems pretty quick on the trådfri. I have some OSRAM lightify RBG as well, and it lags pretty quickly when doing the same. Btw, color is supported on Android....
