    Reliability, entertainment features and wide variety of lamps and accessories brought me back to Hue. I love how I can put Play bars behind my monitor, light strip behind my desk, a Bloom above my cabinets and control them easily from the Hue app. I used to have bulbs of many different brands, and I hated the fqct that the same color don't match on each other.
    And also, I loooove the Hue scene creator. I love that you can select an image and it uses the image palette to paint your entire room. Beautiful!

When I'm watching a movie I don't want aggressive red or green light in my eyes, just a light dim red/blue/green or what ever. As for the white, cold white is good enough when you need a bright light to search for something, the warm white is good when you want white but not aggressive one like cold white.

    Well done comparison. I also enjoy Paul’s channel.
    You are spot on with Philips Hue. I started with LIFX because of their brightness and no hub needed. Reliability became a huge problem. Bulbs went offline. Resetting bulbs was a monthly occurrence and then trying to connect to them required multiple chicken sacrifices and chants. I just gave up after awhile and took the plunge. Now only have 1 LIFX bulb in my house. I previously had 7... well, I still do. But they are sitting in a closet.
    Philips hue works. I have yet to have a bulb drop off. I have over a dozen lights including sync and they all work. Every day. Yes, they are expensive but they work. I change smart home devices primarily for this reason: it has to work reliably.
    Keep up the posts and Ohhhhhhhhh the Zigbee!

    Hibbert has a bug up his butt about the completely legitimate Hue Bridge changeover. Hue were one of the first options available, so it always made perfect sense that they would have to have a bridge update at some point - and since then, their new bridge has had a very long life. Hibbert needs to chill on the Hue hate :)

    Thanks for putting so much time into this to compare the available options! I wondered if you might have a suggestion for the best bulbs to use as wake up lights? The metric being, how well do they light up a room slowly, going from dim to bright within a set time? I've been having issues with my wake up clock waking me up quickly rather than gradually because it pops on with a fairly bright light when it first turns on. I thought maybe using smart bulbs to gradually brighten up my room would be a good alternative.

    • @GreeniusGenius
      @GreeniusGenius Před 2 lety +2

      I like Hue for waking me up in the morning. You want ideally the White Ambiance and Colour, or White Ambiance bulbs, since they slowly change colour temperature, with the Colour ones doing this the best since they can start with deeper reds. And since the bridge saves the wake up automations to it’s onboard storage, even if the internet fails, you will be woken up.

  • @privateprivate8366
    @privateprivate8366 Před 3 lety +3

    OK so, I’m not a bulb expert at all. But, my favorite bulb, for my somewhat simple needs is the original Cree Connected.
    I had tried the GE WIFI bulbs a few years ago, but they were such an incredible pain to connect, I returned them.
    I still actually use Wink, which is not great and, sometimes, a PITA. But, aside from having one Cree go bad, they’ve worked great, I have no need for 16 million colors in bulbs as, that’s not the style of my house.
    But, here’s where the original Cree Connected shines for me.
    First, I like a full bulb, instead of a half bulb, with the solid opaque base. I just don’t feel those bulbs will shine light in all the directions they should.
    Second, I’ve been able to adapt the Cree bulbs. For one fixture, where the bulb was being installed to shine a pattern through the fixture and across the ceiling, at that time, I don’t think there were any clear WIFI bulbs on the market. So, I removed the frosted casing and it works like a clear bulb, shining that pattern.
    Third, I wanted to install the Cree in the range hood over the stove. For this application, I wanted a brighter bulb. As the Cree comes in soft white and daylight, I chose daylight for this application. But, the space was also narrow and, typically, requires an appliance bulb. So, again, I removed the bulb casing. But, this time, I also trimmed down that plastic/cardboard to give the bulb a more tubular shape. I’ve installed 2 in the range hood and, although the stove was made in the year 1, I have working WIFI bulbs there, which are 5K kelvin and I can put them on schedule, like all of my other Cree Connected and operate them remotely.
    It’s no great feat, although I’m no electrician, but out of the Cree Connected, I’ve been able to get more use than Cree originally intended, by essentially making 1 clear and making 2 others both clear and smaller to fit the space. I have no idea whether I can do that, with the other bulbs on the market.

    I know I’m a bit late but… you should review the tunable white Sengled bulb. I’ve heard really good things about it, it would be awesome to see how it compares to these. I would even settle for an update on your review page.

    Hue does not return to previous state if connected to an Echo hub.
    Would love to see more filament bulb reviews.

    Can you review all the new Wyze products, their V1 sensors were garbage and they’ve rolled out a lot of new stuff at the same time

    I just picked up a Sengled non-tunable, soft white starter kit for $15. It included a hub (bridge) and two A19 bulbs. Hopefully their product line expands so that I can get more stuff. Right now the selection of available products is less than stellar.

    All I'm trying to find is a zigbee bulb compatible with home assistant that has auto changing presents (like fading through colors, twinkling, blinking etc)

    When I consider Paul Hibbert, the thing that comes to mind is "that guy who hates Hue".

    I know that I'm late but when I go to the amazing link for the lifx bulb, it shows up as not available and can only be bought from other sellers for like $150+ which is crazy, the only lifx bulb I can see on Amazon Is the a19 mini bulb, does that bulb have the same features as the regular lifx bulb, for example the "breathe" feature

    Have you ever tried Shelly bulbs? Paul Hibbert loves Shelly devices, maybe more than philips... :-D

    I love this video, and have used it a lot, but I wonder how Govee would rank now. I know they've improved their lights, and obviously they would no longer be getting 0 in the accessories category that's for sure. I have a bunch of govee products now, but my actual bulbs are still Phillips for now...
