  • www.VideoJoeKnows.com How to adjust the bottom of a bi-fold door.....do you know how to do this so the door isn't rubbing & damaging the adjoining walls? A little knowledge goes a long way when it comes to knowing how to adjust the bottom edge of a bi-fold louvered door unit. It's not too hard....when you know what "joe knows" re: how to adjust the bottom of a bi-fold door.

    Thanks, from a single mom who has to fix everything in the house. After I watched the video, the only thing that was actually preventing the door from staying in the track was the bottom screw being too short. It took me 30s to fix this. Thought I had to replace the whole thing. The door has been broken for 6 months already. This was really helpful.

    Joe, this may have just saved my marriage! :) On our bifold door the edge at the top that stays in place had worn out and I could not find another door that was the same size, so I bought some wood putty, let it dry, re-drilled the hole and reinserted it, then I found that the doors were both out of adjustment. Before I took my rubber mallet to it, I thought I'd check here first and voila, I was able to adjust the doors to perfection in under 3 minutes! Thank you for taking the time to post this!

    @visvire I had to listen to this about 3 times to hear what I said because the sound gets slightly muffled right here!!...lol I say I had to "patch" the wall there before I painted it. I scrapped off any loose drywall mud then sanded this area then applied 2 coats of all purpose joint compound. I put 2 coats on since the first coat shrinks. I sanded then primed & 2 coats of paint. If I would've had larger gouges I would've patched the wall differently. Thanks for commenting. Joe :0

    Thanks a million, just bought my first house and my closet door was fine until today I tried closing it and it was like the door had been scooted over and was now in the way of the doors closing, I thought I'd have to take the whole door off the track but I fixed it in 30 seconds thanks to this video by litterly picking up the bottom of the door and pushing it back over where it should be

      What is the easiest way to raise the height of a bi-fold door? I know I have to tighten that knurled post that fits in the bracket, but do I have to take the door off to do it?

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  Před 10 lety +1

      It's kind of tricky to turn the screw fitting with the door still upright & in place. If you have a different screw at the bottom some of the older styles has a little nut that you can put a very thin bent style wrench on & turn it up that way without remove the door. They sell these wrenches separately at the hardware store where they sell replacement parts for bifold doors. worse case scenario you have to remove the door & guess how far to unscrew it then put the door back up & hope you have it the right adjustment. sometimes though you then can't reinstall the door if the top wheel hits after you adjust the bottom spike. Then you have to raise in place no matter what. Thanks for your question. Good luck. hey thanks for liking the videos BTW. I'll make more! Joe :0

  • @VideoJoeKnows
    @VideoJoeKnows  Před 11 lety

    You can generally get replacement parts at your local hardware store. Ask them & they will show you which aisle. Generally by screen & sliding door parts area. Look for them. Thanks for your question. Joe :0

      So how did it go adjusting your bifold door 4 years ago?!!

  • @VideoJoeKnows
    @VideoJoeKnows  Před 12 lety

    @cowlipz Sounds like this has been happening ever since the carpet's been down. Take the door down & remove the bottom pin then undercut the door, then put the pin back in & reinstall the door. That shoulod do it, as long as you have enough threads on the pin to raise above the carpet. Check it out & let me know. Joe :0

    Thx problem is the little foot gets hung up in the carpet so when I screw it down to
    make it go in the slot it makes the door too low and the whole bottom scrapes the carpet
    not enough clearance on top to raise door and adjust the screw down Arrrgg worked on this thing 2 hours.....

    im currently about to fit a bi-fold door in a bathroom, does the gap in the middle of the door have to have the hinge recessed or will that cause the door to bind? also with the gap is there any way to cover the gap as you will be able to see through the gap and look straight at the shower cubicle.

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  Před 5 měsíci

    @cowlipz Don't call anyone. I know you can do it! Take the door all the way down if you have to, then make your adjustments & reset the door. I'm not sure of your exact issue with the adjustment. If you give me more details I know I can help you out so you can do it yourself.... Joe :0

    I am missing the hardware...specifically that little metal screw at the base of the door. Do you know where I can find a replacement?

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  Před 4 měsíci

      Are you just missing a screw for the bottom bracket or are you missing the bracket too? You can use any screw to secure the bracket down to the floor but if you are actually referring to the screw that goes into the bottom of the door on the door then yes you can get those at most any local hardware store & they sell other parts for a bifold door as well. Thanks for stopping by!

  • @VideoJoeKnows

    my bottom brackets are rusted in each side and the doors fell what can i do to repair this problem perhaps i should buy new brackets or new bi fold doors and I'm a women that don't do any diy but if putting the bracket is easy then i will put the brackets on myself thank you for the video your great

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  Před 9 lety

      miri pagano Yes it's pretty easy to replace the rusted brackets. Try to remove them so you can take to store & match up with the exact size since they make two different sizes. If the one on the floor is rusty too, remove that & take that with you too. The one on the floor should only take a phillips screw driver to remove & the ones on the bottom of the door you might be able to remove with just a pair of pliers. If you need to you might be able to wedge a flat head screw driver under them to gently raise them out of the hole just a bit so you can then grab them with the pliers to pull out. Take those to the store too. Take a pic of the brackets so you know which one goes back where so you don't get mixed up. Look at them just a bit before removing & you will see which one goes where. Try not to unscrew any of the threaded piece so you will know how much of the threaded piece stays out on the new one. You can do it! Let me know how it goes or if you have any questions. Joe :0

    have another question so sorry forgot, there are some scratches on one of the bi fold door that was in this condition when i moved into the apartment can i sand it out and paint over it thanks

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  Před 9 lety

      miri pagano Depending on how deep the scratch is you might be able to sand it out then repaint with two coats of paint. If the scratch is deep you could get some white latex caulking & put some caulking over it then flatten with a putty knife & then just leave it if it doesn't look too unsightly. Then you wouldn't have to sand, fill, & repaint. Especially if you don't have any matching paint then the white caulking might blend in to a certain extent if your door is white. Good luck with your repair! Joe :0
