- The year is 2044: artificial intelligence controls all facets of a stoic society as humans routinely “erase” their feelings. Hoping to eliminate pain caused by their past-life romances, Gabrielle (Léa Seydoux) continually falls in love with different incarnations of Louis (George MacKay). Set first in Belle Époque-era Paris Louis is a British man who woos her away from a cold husband, then in early 21st Century Los Angeles, he is a disturbed American bent on delivering violent “retribution.” Will the process allow Gabrielle to fully connect with Louis in the present, or are the two doomed to repeat their previous fates? Visually audacious director Bertrand Bonello (Saint Laurent, Nocturama) fashions his most accomplished film to date: a sci-fi epic, inspired by Henry James turn-of-the-century novella, suffused with mounting dread and a haunting sense of mystery. Punctuated by a career-defining, three-role performance by Seydoux, The Beast poignantly conveys humanity’s struggle against dissociative identity and emotionless existence.

Death stranding, Crimes of the future and now this. Somebody tell her Agent to never skip on all these weird roles.
Death Stranding is the tits
Don't forget about The Lobster. She's involved with the weird stuff, love it
She’s the. Kristen Stewart of France
Lea Seydoux is a revelation? She has been amazing for quite some time.
perhaps, to some degree...
Best Original Screenplay. I'm calling it
It's adapted
MASTERPIECE. Unique theatre experience and performance. I was on the edge of my seat all the time.
Day off today. I saw this film playing, looked at the trailer and was intrigued. After I left, I didn't like it but now it has time to sit, I feel that a lot is thrown at the viewer all at once and is a movie to re-watch, but it didn't grab me like I was hoping it would. Something was off for me, On a technical level its was great. I think though the writing could've been tighter. I can kinda see where he was going, but didn't quite land.
@@joed7185 Its not for everybody. I can tell is just MY kind of flick
It looks so scary though. 😮 I don’t really watch horror films. Is it more science fiction or horror?
Anybody else ever notice that the same Chicago Cutlery kitchen knife is used in all murders in all movies? And usually referred to as a "butcher knife", which it is not. It is a chopping/slicing knife, and would not make for very good stabbing with its wide blade. Still, it is a fixture in Hollywood.
Amazing.
They are slaves to their prop Masters
Ok Chef
This is super interesting, I never knew about that!
“🤓👆🏻” you writing this comment
That’s not a Chicago Cutlery knife in this trailer. The heel on their chef’s knife goes straight down - the one in the trailer is about 45°, and the blade is narrower. If you meant the utility knife, that blade is narrower than the one in the trailer, and goes right into the handle with no heel. Sorry bro.
It's like if Dead Again and Eternal Sunshine got married and A24 was the priest. Take my money now!
Your mind is incredible 😍
Looks like a European psychological horror version of ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’, and I’m all here for it.
I'm getting major Killing of the Sacred Deer vibes with this.
it was great, cant wait to watch it again
0:51 omg thanks George🤤🤤🤤
Damn, this looks really good! Great cinematography by the looks of the trailer!
Lea is so gorgeous and great actress. MacKay is also a great actor too, so this should be really good!
In my cinema, a QR appeared in the credits. I was very excited, thinking it would show me a secret video of Gabriel, speaking directly to me. But it was just an Easter egg😄. This movie is absolutely mesmerizing. Love it.
What was the Easter egg from the QR code? I left my phone at home when I went to the theater to see it.
It’s literally the credits and an extra scene that gives context to the violent end of the 2014 lifetime.
@@theprowler18 Wow, thanks. What context did it give to the 2014 story?
@@montedison42 it’s a shot of the online medium telling Gabrielle not to go into the room of purification, and then a gunshot;
So it’s not a secret video of Gabrielle speaking directly to you, it’s a secret video of the medium speaking directly to you.
@@quiroz923 Thanks mate
Looks creative and wonderful, hope it releases near me
perfect movie btw
Léa Seydoux speaking French - sign me up!
Any clue when VOD release is??? Only theatre that showed it during it's run was nearly 2 hours away and I need to see it
She's wearing her Death Stranding suit, :X
Everyone taking about Seydoux and I spent most of the movie thinking “god Mackay is soooo good, may be the best actor of his generation.”
i agree, he was fantastic!! he had some incredible range in this.
Man she is hot but also chooses the most original films.
DIRECTED by a Cronenberg (what I assumed).
Yeah it definitely has strong Infinity Pool vibes
Ooooh!❤
oh i cannnnt wait for this one
This looks perfect!!!!
Worth a look.
This is seems interesting.... connections of times
"---- is a revelation." has to be the biggest film critic cliche of all time. If you are a movie critic please invest in a thesaurus,
Wolf and now the beast, I sense a pattern with George lol
Video games have come such a long way, I kept looking at Lea and thinking "What the hell movie do I know her from?"
Well it was Death Stranding. Not a movie at all. Well, kind of. You know what I mean.
Lol..same. I was like wait I know her voice and then was like she looks familiar.
SOSOSOSOSOSOSOOSO GOOD 6/5
This premise is similar to the pseudo science belief the cult in The Master had! Which itself was inspired by scientology i believe
Maybe like Assassin's Creed but you get to change things in the past and not just re-live it?
Intriguing eitherway.
This is one of those artsy avant garde films in which you need to be somewhat “high” to watch or understand. 😆
Fragile ❤
Minority Report: the Death Stranding cut
Why is the movie always weird if it's her?
look good
feels like a fucking acid trip of a movie
So basically existence
Seems like a bit of a stretch.
but... determinism
I'm guessing the beast in question is not a Werewolf?
Assassin's Creed horror?
0:04 ...nope.
I can't tell if this movie sucks or if it's just the trailer that sucks.
Or, hopefully not, both!
This is modern day Prague. They're not speaking French.
i like the dude as an actor but Léa Seydoux is way too pretty for him
Why do French directors always have long scenes of women walking down the street? Do they think this is a once-in-a-lifetime incident that has never been seen in cinematography? French directors need to realize that if a woman wants to get from point A to point B and there's a street then she'll probably walk (unless she has another form of transport). Movie goers don't need long scenes by French directors of a woman walking down a street.
It’s to show the streets are desolate, almost empty, lifeless. She doesn’t see any people until she’s almost home. We see a random deer roaming the streets, which he gets to do because there are almost no humans on the streets, presumably because they don’t need to be, because machines run everything now and humans are useless, or are slowly turning into doll-like emotionless beings that don’t enjoy walks.
Like, you don’t have to like it. It’s perhaps too long of a sequence, but it’s not pointless. It’s world building for the dystopia.
aaaaaaa
Looks interesting, but also mostly a horror with sci fi setting. There have been many articles calling it the "purest scifi film" which looking at the trailer it is not at all. Perhaps the looking inward of oneself and society through the lens of multiple lives and mistakes... sure, but the trailer maybe puts that all in the background as well and the bulk is visual and cerebral angst/horror.
Still looks fun to watch though.
Léa got beasts for sure.. and they're amazing
**cough** Under The Skin **cough** .....
The premise sounds intriguing but I found all the horror movie-type screaming very jarring. What offscreen terror is she reacting to in a story that's supposed to be about a recurring relationship?
Yeah, something about her screaming felt fake and forced. Gave the preview an old cheesy 80's horror flick kind of vibe. I'd watch it on streaming though.
watch the film and find out.
could just be a poorly edited trailer tbh
One of the past timelines is supposed to be a “horror story” I believe around the 80’s and it seems likely that it will try to capture the horror aesthetic of the 80’s.
lol
No
Thanks for the warning. I won't watch it even if someone paid me to do it. 👎
Purest sci-fi then talks about past lives. LOL!
You might wanna look up what the "fi" in sci-fi stands for
@@raulrivera6743 Pay more attention to the sci in sci fi bro....
hahahahahahaah, looks terrible
More Fourth Industrial Revolution propaganda desguised as a film to subtly manipulate the masses.
Looks boring
For a 'Comedy' this just not that funny. Ha,ha.... I know. Not.
Looks gay
Looks like complete shite.
A poorly crafted trailer with vague references that fails to concisely convey the major theme of the movie to make it compelling for one to see.
I clicked because I saw Emily Blunt and was disappointed.... lol sorry
