- The year is 2044: artificial intelligence controls all facets of a stoic society as humans routinely "erase" their feelings. Gaspard Ulliel was replaced by George MacKay and I can’t stop wondering how that would’ve worked.
Well the director said that is why he didn’t hire a French actor, as everyone would just compare and Bonello felt it wouldn’t be fair to either actor.
So he got an English actor who learned French for the role (not phonetic, he actually learned the French).

“Fast talking’ is all the rage (apparently all over the world)! In the early part of the trailer French was spoken, and there was closed-captioned beneath it, but they were speaking so fast I didn’t have time to read the closed caption. That’s a bit problematic when it’s a foreign language you don’t understand. Slow down please. It reminds me of when people who could speak exceedingly fast were paid to read (in FF speed) all the disclaimers or side-effects that follow an ad on the radio or tv.

Yes it's very good, I saw it last week & had a great time. It's a trippy film that possesses a unique, mesmerizing quality & it's very well acted also.

Assassin's Creed: the Interesting Part
#TheBeast -- I saw an advanced screening of this bilingual (French/English) two and a half hour dystopian flick directed by #BertrandBonello last night at this indie theater #AeroTheatre in Santa Monica.
#LéaSeydoux brought that French sexy mystique. #GeorgeMacKay spoke some decent French and had a funny American accent.
I won’t spoil it for you. Here are some basic themes: AI 🤖, multiple periods, suspense, and social commentary.
I actually found that the second half of the movie saved it. If it were 90 minutes, which it easily could have been, i Wouldn’t be writing ✍️ this post.
Oh, and the title is way too generic, guaranteeing it to be lost into the dung heap of movies with similar names. SPOILER ALERT trailer in comments.
McKay is duplicating the accent and speech patterns of a real life person.
The real life person did a lot of video diaries just like McKay’s character does.
He duplicates that real person’s accent and speaking PERFECTLY.
The director/writer deliberately set the middle story in 2014, because of the real life person.
I don’t know if I should say his name as it may be spoilery, but when a person knows, it clicks.
