    These have a lot of great tech that some of the competitors don't offer. Remote start that sets climate based off outside temp. Around view cameras not to gimmicky gadgetry to suckers buyers like go pro mounts hahaha haha competent towing capabilities locking rear diff. Thoughtful and easy to use tech. It comes down to this or the gmc for me. Price also plays in the pic

    My XL F250 doesn't have power folding mirrors and it can definitely be a PITA when trying to maneuver in tight quarters. You either have to get out and fold them in or hope for the best. For what new trucks cost it should be a standard feature.

      Noah E
      My 250 doesn't have them either, if I randomly find a tight space I will flip the drivers mirror shut and slowly pull up letting the pass side get folded in on whatever tree/obstacle that's a tight fit. Your right though, when they start talking over 50/60k for a truck power mirrors should be included.

    What are these kinds of trucks for? Why do Americans like them? If you have a small business and need to move things about you get a diesel van like a Sprinter or smaller Metris. If you use it as a lifestyle vehicle to tow a trailer once a year or as something to use on a farm, a small truck like a Nissan Navara, VW Amarok, Ford Ranger or Toyota Hilux should work perfectly. The new VW Amarok with the V6 diesel from the Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne is amazing though I don't think these small trucks are available in the USA. Surely they'd do very well because who needs such large behemoths. That Amarok V6 can tow very well, drives like an SUV and is fast.

    Nissan should have offered a smaller v6 cummins in the light duty. That v8 is nice motor but it is a pig. Think it gets the same mpg as the gasser lol.
    Nissan also needs to make a 4 banger cummins for the Frontier truck. That would be nice.

  • @randybrawley

    Put 10,000 lbs behind going uphill and see which is better. The diesel isn't designed for any of the tests you performed. The Nissan 5.6 is a good gas engine if you want to go get groceries and pick up the kids from daycare. The Cummins 5.0 is 3 times the power plant if you are using your truck as a truck.

    When parking my truck and cars into a garage power folding mirrors are convenient. Nissan needs to add a moonroof to the Titan, all the other brands offer a moonroof. Otherwise, the Titan (gas burner) would give the domestic brands some better competition. The Titan's gas engine should be a very dependable engine.

  • @k.r.v.4219

    Once again there Andre' and Nathan, great reporting! However a more realistic gas/diesel comparison would have been between a gas XD and diesel XD, instead of using a gas Titan reg half ton! I also notice, with the great way you run over the camera to get an amazing view by the way if the complete undercarriage, the gas half ton, but don't know if the gas XD is the same, but the half ton has real dual exhaust, but only to the muffler! With a two inlet one outlet! Why wouldn't Nissan have a duel in AND out muffler? Or two mufflers with a crossover equalizing connection?? For the added benefit of true dual exhaust?? Hey they could ever have that for the diesel also!!! Yes their nice trucks, but only the half ton, but even that could loose weight!! But the XD? Come on! If I bought a truck that heavy? It would be a real HD/SD!! But on the other hand the price for the Nissan diesel, loaded of course is a good buy! If you do not have the need for heavier loads, or towing jobs!! But want a diesel, in a full size truck? Unless other half tone diesels come out! Like an F150, with that great I think Lion V6 diesel? In an F150, with a load capacity that dwarfs the XD's at 3,000 lbs. or so! But really you could do no wrong with any of the new trucks out today! It all comes down to personal preference.

  • @cwyoming7004

    That 5.6 sounds awesome. How would you rate the fit and finish of these trucks vs other brands?

  • @mattyrs4
    @mattyrs4 Před 7 lety

    The XD weighs as much as a F250 or 2500 GM but does less than either. It's like an 5/8ths ton but can't quite play with it's 3/4 ton friends.

    • @mattyrs4
      @mattyrs4 Před 7 lety +1

      So? It can do ever-so-slightly more than an F150 or Silverado 1500 yet has a weight comparable to the 250/2500 siblings. That's going to make it suffer in mileage. Since it can't compete with the bigger boys it also suffers there. What's the benefit to all that weight? It looks beefier - because it is? Seems like a big price to pay for an unnecessary aesthetic. Towing for the Titan is about 25% worse than the Ford or GM. The XD is less than 5% better. I don't know what Nissan is doing, but from a numbers perspective they're pretty lousy.

      T Ritchie, I would suggest that there would be no problem at all. Just look at the Nissan Altima with the same sized engine and 179 HP advertised.

    • @Spahi77
      @Spahi77 Před 7 lety +1

      guy proulx I don't see Nissan sales numbers being heavy enough to influence Cummins to actually do a custom design engine for their trucks Cummins will do an assortment of engines that will fit into a variety of applications. I think if Ford and Chevy were to approach Cummins for a engine to use in their 150 or half-ton models that would be enough clout to have Cummins listening to their input... and then I can actually see an inline 6 being made into production... again I am just speculating here... because Ford had the same type of setup with Navistar... Ford basically was stuck with whatever Navistar engines or on the market at the time

    • @TheDaltonmichaels
      @TheDaltonmichaels Před 7 lety +1

      a straight 6 would mean much less interior space , or if they didn't take it out of the interior it would mean a longer and heavier nose. a scaled down cummins would have been a good idea for engine design and from a proven technology stand point. but for truck stand point a V configuration is more practical. more room for radiators and condensers and passengers. plus you probably don't have to pull the cab or motor to change a head or work on the engine. for the most part.

    • @tritchie6272
      @tritchie6272 Před 7 lety

      Power folding mirrors can be useful in a wide vehicle. There have been occasions where I have had to stop to go through a gap and it would be more convenient to be able to fold them without getting out to walk around to the passenger side of the vehicle. I would agree its not a deal breaker though.

      How much does the camper weigh? Figure that out, keeping in mind other additional weight and gear you might be carrying (passenger weight too) and compare your prospective trucks' payloads and capacities to see which best fits your need. Typically if it's a large camper, and you want to still have capability to tow a trailer or haul an entire family or group, a 3/4 ton may be best (or as in this case the Titan XD), however if you dont have much else a 1/2 ton (regular Titan) may suit you just fine.

    As time goes on the XD version and that Cummins are proving to be a disappointment. The XD is no more capable than a half ton....the other half tons can do virtually the same work, and the Titan XD can't touch even the basic 3 quarter tons for work. That, plus the price point, and the Cummins diesel sounds quiet.....but the engine and the shifting is rough and feels unrefined. If this was a full sized 1 ton with the inline 6 that would be negligable....but not a half ton or heavy halffer like this one. It's not worth the money.
    The regular Titan with the gasser however, is an underrated truck and is much more worth it for the money.

      The Titan XD can probably pull 16000 lbs before issues occur, which would be the absolute max which is how Ford rates their trucks. There is no way it pulls less than the F150. Nissan just rates of like any other truck manufacturer should, a safe weight which doesn't put a maximum load on the engine. The Titan XD can definitely be in a class with the 2500s.

  • @jasonford6317
    @jasonford6317 Před 7 lety +1

    Question: The 1500 Series trucks are considered 1/2 Ton Trucks including the F-150s. Would Compact and Midsized Trucks be regarded as 1/4 Ton? Lets say the Honda Ridgeline or Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon? The Nissan Frontier or The Toyota Tacoma are sometimes considered 1/2 ton Trucks though they are notably smaller?
    Can you elucidate some of these classifications?

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP Před 7 lety +3

      There really isnt a classification other than those smaller trucks being considered "midsize". I've never heard of Frontiers or Tacomas being called 1/2 tons, they are definitely midsize and are even a bit smaller than the Colorado/Canyon/Ridgeline. But IMHO the 1/2 ton 3/4 ton designations is pretty outdated and only cause confusion. Better to look up specs on payload, towing capacity, GVWR and GCWR to get an idea if a particular truck is right for you.

This could have taken the lead in the 1/2T segment. 30mpg hiway. 450# torque. easily could pull 10k# with an Aisin tranny. the current XD is getting a bad rap, which will push Nissan way down in reputation. the XD is a dumb move.

"XD" makes you think "Xtra Duty", larger dimensions make you think "tougher", and the diesel make you think "stronger" all while not actually being so. Since Nissan isn't SAYING it's a heavy duty truck outright, they can avoid warranty claims. But they're being very sketchy. It's pretty sleazy, and the design steals from others in a hideous concoction that's rather Korean in nature.

      dchawk81 I'm not so sure how guy can reason as he does. But no mater what their called or classified, a truck that has a dry weight of a HD, but less capacity of an F150, with Fords HDPayload package, or even without, that is marketed as an alternative to a HD/SD, like the Nissan Titan XD is? Well any reasonable thoughtful person could compare them!

      but i think cummins is going to offer the 5 litre v8 diesel as a crate motor because of the nissan they are going to have to actually. So i cant wait for an opportunity to put a v8 cummins into a much lighter old school c10 or k10 truck/suburban. they will make awesome engine swaps for the undesirable pre duramax diesel gm trucks.

    No offense, but you guys are a joke. "Not having electric folding towing mirrors is an issue in my book" is the stupidest statement i've heard in a while. Electric folding mirrors make the truck more expensive, and it's one more thing to fix when it breaks. And I have room to talk because my Z71 Silverado, with MANUAL towing mirrors, has 164,300 miles on it. I don't just drive a new truck for 10 miles whining about electric towing mirrors lol.

    • @cameronreynolds9264
      @cameronreynolds9264 Před 7 lety +22

      Emory Bragg the problem is that most people want electric mirrors when they're paying 60k for a truck

    • @bcjdwbiernfjherwfbowfib
      @bcjdwbiernfjherwfbowfib Před 7 lety +1

      It's just one more thing to fix if they break. Thats not something to complain about not having. Something to complain about is long term engine, transfercase, oil lifter issues. I watched y'alls video on the 6.0 Chevy 2500 HD, because I may get one in a couple of years. However, you guys complained about the 6.0 not being powerful enough. Its a heavy duty truck, not a drag truck!! The 6.0 vortec will last 300k+ miles, and you complain about speed? Im not judging your youtube channel. Great quality videos. But if you make videos, be honest.

    • @bcjdwbiernfjherwfbowfib
      @bcjdwbiernfjherwfbowfib Před 7 lety +1
