I did a rough count and I currently own around 450-500 lip products, so in 2021 I want to test all of my lip products at least once and ask myself "do I need this?". Let me 1st say, I appreciate your dedication for this project. All the charting and photos you have to do wow!! I know your doing mainly to reduce your collection but also for us, and I love it. I'm going to use this series when evaluating my collection. Also when you say "embarrassing long time" please tell. I've had some in my collection for over 4yrs!!
I definitely have some of these that are probably 4 years old 😆
I have one lipstick that’s 10 years old, surprised it isn’t rancid! I know only cause I got it on my wedding day when I had my makeup done at mac
10 -15 here! 😱 and still going strong no smell no drying no funny feeling on the lips . ‘Funny feeling’ on my lips is the first indication for me even before a discernible change in look and feel.
I have a Dior lipstick called Jeanne since 2012. The colour and formula is unmatched. Still goes, still nice....if it was bad I'd throw it away but it's been discontinued :,( I'm not ashamed to say that is still is my fave. What I do every six months, is scrape a bit away and sanitize the lid..that's how much I love it.
I’ve got a lipstick in my drawer that my mum used to wear when I was maybe 6-7. I’m 35 ha ha. It’s a beautiful nudey pink, and it still looks good and smells fine. I do wear it occasionally ha ha
I literally love this project so much. I see so many youtubers have so many lip products and they never get rid of them (obviously this is their job so no shade) but this project is everything I’ve wanted to watch.
You'd be surprised! Most people do get rid of things, but they do it off camera haha

This project and Hailey’s trying all her products project have given me so much motivation to hardcore declutter my collection. I started off with about 100 lip products but now have 31. It’s so refreshing to look at my collection and know I love everything that I own instead of being overwhelmed with the fact that I’ll never be able to finish most of my collection. I also have decluttered my single eyeshadows and palettes drastically.

I am so happy you posted. Greece is burning from wildfires and even though I am on vacation far away from the fires, I appreciate the distraction since I am trying to stay off the news. Much love and support to all the countries that are tried from fires or other extreme phenomena.

My grandmother's name was Amaryllis, so hearing that the Jouer lip balm named Amaryllis tastes like a "nana" perfume makes me chuckle

Those smashbox slapstick dry out super fast almost everyone has decluttered them for that reason alone
My family and I have hot toddys at Christmas (I'm from England). I can officially tell you that they are delicious! They are made with whiskey, orange, water and spices i.e. cinnamon, star anise and cloves. When the weather is cold it is amazing. Next time Melbourne is freezing cold go a cocktail bar and order one (when you guys are out of lockdown).
Melbourne is always freezing haha! I think I’ve had one of those, but I’m not a big fan of whiskey based cocktails so it’s probably not for me 😆

Don't hate me... but I don't like rum either! And don't get me started on bourbon 🤮
I like really fresh or fruity cocktails... but these days I can't really be out of the house after 5pm anyway (I have a clingy toddler who doesn't settle without me), so a cocktail night is not on the cards for a few years anyway 😆

That’s where matte liquid lipsticks come in handy haha! When I was out between the filming of this, I was wearing a mask!
I find those quite drying, but I'm taking note of your recommendations so I can find a good formula! Keep up the good work!
Yeah they are, but they one of the few ways you can wear colour in a mask wearing society! The other way is a good lip stain!
Personally id recommend the jeffree star matte liquid lipstick works great under a mask

I'm not gonna lie, I absolutely adore granny panties. It matches my natural lip tone. I picked up the melted mattes after you said they were one of your favorites. They are definitely one of my favorite formulas
Drop dead red is my all time favorite lipstick. I spent so long looking for a color like that in the drugstore trying to save money and was so thrilled when I found it that even though it's so much more than I would usually spend and was nothing short of a small luxury for me I still love it and don't regret it and I don't think I've ever liked a lip product more than I've loved that

I recently got the Jouer lip topper in Tan Lines, It is far lovelier than I thought it would be. It looks nice over other lipsticks but it is best just on bare lips, it blends into my natural lip color in such a pretty way while being shiny and sparkly (without being metallic or chunky).
They are surprisingly beautiful aren't they!

It is a great shade and in a parallel universe I would be keeping and wearing it often! Since the pandemic and having a kid, I'm always home by 5pm and my makeup is done in a rush while my kid is napping... so I really don't have any room for shades that are a bit out of my comfort zone... and I have no place to wear them! I know that will change, but probably not for a few years to come, so I need to be realistic about what I keep and what I will likely use.
I don't mind the dryness of the Smashbox liquid lipsticks (on the lips) and I love the undertones of their reds and pinky nudes, but they dry out SO fast. If they lasted a bit longer, I would likely keep one of the pinky nudes on hand for long work days, but I panned 5 of the minis super fast last year because the formula dried out in about a/even less than a year. Sigh. Now I have to go look at Bare Mineral matte lipsticks. I love how a berry lip translates on zoom. It doesn't look dark or vampy, but with the lights I use, it also doesn't wash me out and comes across more neutral than a bright pink or red.
Yeah its such a shame! The Smashbox shade was really pretty! It seems like a lot of people have experienced them drying out!
Here I was considering Lady Balls for the wedding.. now I'm reconsidering it haha. Might have to do some wear tests with mine because I swear it used to dry down pretty well.

I still love this project SO MUCH, which is weird because I don't wear lip color. I own one lipstick which I don't mind wearing but I never think to wear it. What I love is that you're looking at this objectively, everything is on the chopping block. You're going to be doing a final elimination round at the end to narrow down to your tip top favorites, and I gotta respect that. I'm using this model of project to further decrease my polish shades, I got down from several Ikea Helmer cabinets stuffed full (and then some) of regular nail polish down to about 80-ish bottles when we relocated to a different region of the US. I would love to have around 20 bottles when all is said and done. I'm no longer looking to have a full rainbow, and each color in every kind of finish, no.... I'm done with that life. It was fun when I gave a shit enough to give myself 2-3 manis per week but I'm just not doing that anymore. I have a type, but the hard part was parting with shades that I truly liked. Watching this project has helped me, I'm down to about 50 bottles now from the 80-ish and I'm still going! So thank you, this project is so inspiring!
Oh I am so happy you like it! Yeah I was like that with lipsticks and eyeshadows... I need all shades and all finishes... but now I am like, "why?". If I never use them then why I am hoarding all those products! Well done decluttering your nail polish collection!
I love this series! I hope your lipstain or Korean type brands are in the near future. I've found with how dry my lips are lip stains like used in Korean beauty work best for me since I can hydrate frequently with balms and have the best of both worlds with lasting or budget proof powers. I want to say you have Tony moly or shimu iru ones that are a bit pricey that I'd love to see how you feel about after having them longer.
I definitely have that on the cards for one of the future months but to be honest I am putting it off as long as possible because I know it will take a long time to test out stains. The way I get through so many products in a month is often by me wearing a gloss in the morning and a lipstick in the afternoon, but with a stain I can't do two products in a day and I can't do mass lip swatch sessions, so I am not looking forward to it haha.

I love this series! I know it has to be a lot of work, so much appreciated!! The Smashbox formula liquid lipstick formula is on my shit list. I had a Christmas set which had never opened as I got it just before the covid and for several months I wasn’t wearing lipstick and then using the ones who were already on their last leg. When I went to open them several months later ( around 10 months), surprise… they had dried out even though they never had been opened. I could use a couple of shades for 4-6 weeks and then I had to declutter them. Never buying then again!
This project is really inspiring! I have also cycled through my lippis more (and finished 3 this year) by your inspiration.
I have TF metallic melted lippie and it is pretty but doesn't wear off nicely, metallic sheen wears off fast and it leaves bright pink rim, eventhou it is nude pinkish not bright pink. After this I might try the basic melted mattes.
Really love this series! I hope once your done, if you get sent whole collections from brands, you can do it again haha.

I have both, one for work and one for my bedside. I personally like the original/coconut one better, but the mint is still good!
They also have a 3 pack currently on mecca with the original, mint and a rose, but I don't really like rose scented lip products, so I'll only repurchase the original when I eventually run out. 🙂

Those Smashbox liquid lipsticks are great but they dry out waaaay too fast. I had a gray one (not really an everyday colour, so I didn't wear it much) and it dried out and I wanted to repurchase it and other colours I had my eye on but couldn't justify it because I wouldn't finish them before they dried out.
One of the best wine red lipsticks is Burberry oxblood. It’s a creamy formula and not matte but it lasts sooo well.
I’m really enjoying this series. I feel like granny panties (a) has a crappy name and (b) would be a better nail polish color than a lip color.

I am so jealous you managed to get the most recent toofaced holiday lip pack I never managed to find one I could order to Australia, Mecca need to pick up their game if they are going to have brands exclusively.
Yeah I was lucky to be sent it as a present from a friend from the US. From what I heard, there was a lack of holiday stock from most brands due to manufacturing and shipping delays so Mecca didn’t get as much stock and wasn’t able to stock as much as they usually do each year.
I bought too faced lipstic upon your recomendation and yes, it is great! Well spend money. I also love essence and catrice lipstics, cheape but really good quality, I just wish they had wider range in colour.
Stila is my favorite matte formula.
FINE Kat. FINE. I'm going to break down and order a too faced liquid lipstick. Because your taste in lipstick formulas and shades is the closest to mine of anyone on youtube and I've been wearing the MAC liquid lipstick in the shade you accidentally bought a ton lately. Every month I spot on agree with you about formulas and colors, so I'm actually keen to try the melted matte lipsticks. Have you tried the new MAC formula? It's so so good.

I bought Gingerbread girl maybe two years because you and Hailey kept raving about it. I love that formula and the color, I hope they bring it back, I almost out of it. This year I bought the mini holiday pack and I've gotten soo many compliments with the hot toddy and the caramel apple from that collection.
I love them! Definitely some of the best holiday products out there!
It must be something about that square packaging. Some Smashbox ones I have dried out too. And the Stila Glisten & Glows dry out before other liquid eyeshadows in round/cylindrical packaging.
Try the mint Mario Badescu one at Mecca. It’s amazing, same formula minus the almondy scent

I did try to use it, but it just tugged and didn't apply to the lips... so I think it's too dry haha
The two faced formula is weird for me. Maybe it's the shade I have, or it's because I got it out of a subscription box. Either way, I'm glad you like the formula. :)
Like all lipstick ranges (especially matte liquid lipsticks) the formula varies wildly between shades! TF do have some dud shades, but overall they work well on me :)
I hope too face brings back pumpkin spice I didn't get to buy it last year.
Do you prep your lips before wearing the Melted Mattes? I swatched them on my arm as you reviewed them. I think they look better on my arm than my lips! I want to give them a chance before declutterinq them.I find them a little drying, but if a good prep helps, I'm in. Also I want to watch your MAC video to try new lips. But I don't need new lip products cause I have to wear a mask at work and that makes it hard to justify new purchases!
I personally don't purposefully prep my lips. I often (out of habit) apply a lip balm in the morning which may prep my lips a little, but usually by the time I apply a colourful lipstick it has completely worn off or I wipe it off. The melted mattes are drying, realistically all matte lip products (liquid or bullet) are drying. So if you have drier lips I wouldn't bother keeping them, but in the scheme of matte liquid lipsticks that dry down budge proof (again, they are inevitably going to be dry feeling), these are some of the more comfortable ones that I can wear most of the day... and I definitely can't say that about most matte liquid lipstick formulas

Definitely give them another go, and try applying a small amount of lip balm before applying your makeup so it has hydrated the lips by the time you put on your lipstick. If you have drier lips then just apply the lipstick over the balm and see if that helps at all! If it doesn't, I wouldn't recommend keeping them sadly.

I bought Terra by Jouer from Mecca at the end of last year and when I received it it was already partially dried out :( It's such a beautiful shade though!

I haven't stopped thinking about the look you had in one of your recent videos where you had a purple lip and a turquoise colored sweater.... I think the lip was Anastasia? I want to recreate that look, because I think it will look cool with my eyes! I don't think I'll end up wearing that color all that often though, so I didn't want to spend too much, and I thought I remembered you saying the ABH lipstick was just ok. Let me know if you have any recommendations on an affordable color like that.....
The ABH lipstick is a good formula! I love how it lasts, but it is a drier formula so it’s not great if you have dry lips. Sadly that formula has been discontinued. I don’t have a dupe that comes to mind sorry! I might find one in the swatch off at the end of the series ☺️
@@KitschSnitch I think I saw something similar by Flower Beauty, at a CVS store. I almost got that, but I thought I’d do some more research first. Especially since I might get that color and then be like, oh hell no, this does not work on me 😆

I say this every time, but I love this series. It is weird, but for some reason the melted mattes is that the reds never set down or dry on me. It is strangest thing. They stay 100% liquid. Nudes are fine. So random.

I am wondering if a squirt of Mac Fix + can bring back your Jouer liquid lips? Mel Thompson mentioned you can bring back the Stila Magnificent Glitter & Glow eye shadows with Mac Fix +.
Sadly I doubt it. Mac fix plus is mainly water so I can’t see it doing wonders.
@@KitschSnitch maybe not but could be a good science project on something you are going to throw out anyway, perhaps for Beauty News. I saw you tried reviving Colourpop supershock shadows that dried out a while back.
Yeah we haven't been able to film together due to lockdowns and restrictions so any science video is shelved right now. What we did learn from the rehydrating supershock shadows was that products like Inglot duraline are good at rehydrating makeup, water sadly doesn't do much besides watering down and separating ingredients.
DO NOT REPURCHASE LADY BALLS! It’s not that yours went off, that’s just the formula for that shade. When I first purchased it the same thing happened to me, it would not set down. Almost turned me off of the TF liquid lipsticks. Something about the formula is just off and it’s disappointing because the shade is gorgeous.

Also the store is originally called Mecca Cosmetica, but people shorten it to Mecca. So it literally means a centre for cosmetics. So it's not appropriating the Muslim culture at all.

Im definitely not overdoing it, no one needs as many lipsticks as I own haha. Decluttering is a natural evolution of over buying, it’s not because it’s the fashion right now ☺️
