I've owned a lot cars, in no particular order, from a 718, C63, S2000, Taycan, Elise, Camry, Bolt and a ND2 MX-5 RF GT . There's just something special about driving the MX-5 that makes me feel like it's a treat when ever I take it out for a drive. It's not as serious and harsh as an Elise and the low end pick up is much more convenient than having to rev out my S2000 every time I want to catch up to traffic. It's not too expensive that I would have to park half a mile away when I go to stores or restaurants and not complicated at all to do my own maintenance on. It's a great car to drive and probably the one that I will end up modding and keeping forever.

Similar for me. even after a few years now, my ND still feels like a new treat every time i take it for a spin. More so than any of my cars, current or past. It’s just awesome. (I have a goodwin race exhaust as well. it perfectly fits the character of this car!)
@Seayin 100% u will its way more fun then any supercar on twisty roads, u can fully use it on road and enjoy it, its tiny wheelbase and weight makes u feel like u become the car when u drive it. Only cars that come close are old cars like air cooled 911, cosworth 190e, the first m3, some old alfas.
The best thing for me about the ND2 is the engine tuning - it's the only car I've driven that feels totally linear. No rev hang, no weird quirks. The transmission rocks too. I drove a GR86 and love the total package but... Keep coming back to the ND2 because the fundamentals are so damn good.
@@mohawk5010 As in don't get why it's there or what it is? It's there to control emissions by preventing the throttle body from snapping straight to closed. The GR86 was far better than most but it was still there. The ND1/ND2 don't have any. It feels like a good old throttle cable.
Yeah I agree with this. I ended up buying a GR86 when all the hype was on and couldn't test drive it since I thought it would be perfect. A year later, ended up selling it and buying a ND2 and didn't feel the urge to buy another car
@@justinguerrero6357 the race is a straight pipe with a Helmholtz resonator. It sounds fantastic..I have it on my 1.5L ND and it's heavenly above 4800 to 7500 rpm.
@@justinguerrero6357 I had the SQT on my NC and the difference between with and without the baffles was massive. But I also had a full system from headers back, midpipe cat deleted, so that may have been significant too.
@@justinguerrero6357 No offense intended but kinda hard for me to justify the super-Q as an upgrade over stock. it’s not much of a difference IMO. the ‘race’ spec is more aggressive and really enhances the character of the car’s sound, while btw also offering a measurable weight savings. It’s a relative bargain for what they charge… look into it!
Because of your POV drives with your black 1994 NA Miata, I got a 1994 Miata and absolutely loved it. When I sold it, I did miss it a bit, but then I saw your ND2 videos and now that's my daily. An ND2 Club with a polished aluminum lower profile shift knob and cat back exhaust. The car is just about perfect for my everyday duties and if I haven't said it before - THANK YOU for helping me find driving nirvana.
I got rid of my 2019 mustang gt for a 2020 mx5 cup and it's not even close. If you are using it as a second car, the mx5 is about as good as it gets. An exhaust made the car that much better. I 100% agree with everything Topher has said about this car, in fact, his review of the nd2 cup was one of the things that made me want one.
@nozopoke1782 not one bit. I've owned quite a few stangs over the years and even though the nd2 is down on power, it delivers it in a very satisfying way.

I own one of these and cannot express how much I currently miss it. For context I was unfortunately crashed into just over two months ago, but they are repairing it. If anyone is on the fence or considering getting an ND MX-5, don't hold back. It's worth every penny.
I did 9.5 hrs one way the other week, and even at 6'1'' it was fairly comfortable to do so in. Love her as a daily. Eventually want to prep her proper for winter driving.
I come back to this video every few months when I miss my Miata 😢 I moved to Europe and don’t drive anymore. This video captures, in a small way, the feeling of driving my old car and reminds me why I’m going to buy one again when I return.
Follow-up reply: I did it. I ordered a Club soft top just now and cancelled my BRZ order. I even ordered some CE28Ns so they're ready to go on delivery. So stoked.
I purchased this exhaust with a bit of hesitation. I was worried it was going to be a little too much. After seeing how much you enjoyed your time, I can't wait for it to get here.
Unsure why you said only an hour or two. I drove mine from VA to OK and back a few months ago. It was a wonderful experience! The seat lowering bracket is an absolute game changer for ND miatas. I’ve also taken it from WV to savannah GA and back. I love road tripping the ND2!
@@spartanV48 I have the non-recaro seats. The recaros were a little tight for me and more difficult to get in-out with the higher seat bottom bolster. I knew I liked the standard from an ND1 I had previous to my ND2. I prefer the least amount of lumbar support I can get so I can’t speak on that.
The exhaust sound is perfection. What would really make it even more amazing is induction noise like a Motorsport prepped E30 M3 with upgraded ITB’s. Growl upfront, bark in the back.
I own two NA Miata’s currently and I have owned plenty, definitely keeping my eye out for an ND2’s in the future. NC does impress though… more interior room.
The exhaust sounds sooo good. Doesn't sound like a fart can at all, imo 4 cylinders tend to do that, sounds really nice and bassy with the right amount of scream and a little bit of pops on downshifts.
I almost bought a blue 96 Miata with the matching hardtop when I was 17, but ended up going with a 2008 Buick instead. One of my biggest regrets ever lol.

Got my nd2 club less than a month ago. Threw on a Goodwin race exhaust today and WOW. Really wakes the car up, single best upgrade hands down. Had an NC PRHT, and this new nd2 is a night and day improvement in almost every way.

I'm so stuck between getting the new GR86 and the ND2 Miata RF. Owned an NC2 PHRT for 5 years and it was such a joy to drive. I had the same feeling as you; just taking the car out to drive just because. I wish the GR86 wasn't unobtanium though...
Own a 2020 ND Club (just got it) and owned a first gen BRZ….I personally won’t touch a Subaru again. The Miata feels like a much higher quality and better engineered car. Haven’t driven the 2nd gen…but Subaru quality is pretty average to poor IME… Miata club recaro package feels perfect out of the box, just needs an exhaust.
I have the roadster sport race exhaust too and I can confirm that it sounds exactly like this recording. no annoying drone and not too loud that people hate you.
I’m really stuck between the Race and the HKS legamax sport I want something really daily friendly that’s louder than OEM but not LOOK AT MEEEEE I’ve heard a few people say the Race was too loud for them….
@@NDEEZMiata If it is too loud for you, you can buy a baffle that bolts into the tip of the exhaust pipe. I've found however that it's just the right volume. You can be quiet with it if you just cruise and short shift, and when you open it up it's just enough noise to make you smile :P
MX-5s have become too expensive these days. The price point of the GR86/BRZ is so much more affordable when you compare it to a MX-5 with equivalent equipment on board, e.g. LSD. It's a pity as the MX-5 is such a great car.
The exhaust on this sounds like a much quieter and less crackle-y version of my focus svt I used to have, it was a almost a full straight pipe and cat delete other than a tiny little magnaflow at the end of the system. That cosworth would absolutely sing up high and rumble down low.
Definitely not perfect stock. The suspension on any factory Miata is wayyyy to soft. That’s really all they need. Go drive a car with Xida’s and you will realize just how bad the stock suspension is for a sports car.
ND2 Miata suspension is great for 99 percent of buyers. For others, lots of upgrade options available. I upgraded my NC suspension and it eventually just became too annoying, no stiff, over less than perfect roads.
@@dougaugustine933 That is why you have to invest in quality suspension like onlins, Xida, Fox, Miester R GT1, fortune auto 510 etc. They ride and handle better than stock when set up properly.
My most repeated video on this channel. This thing sounds so good, these are just perfect on the street. Most performance cars are just too fast to really enjoy. You will be dead or in jail, or you drive them like grannies and they’re boring AF. Took me 56 years to learn this.
I’m 6’3, I’ve driven the NA and ND. NA was a no go, knees hit the dash. Ive only sat in a NC, never driven, fit was decent. ND with top down fit me since I don’t have super long legs. Top up, my hair brushes against the roof. I think for longer torso/shorter legs dudes under 6’2ish the ND works fine. But anyone above 6’3 with long legs would have to go else where for a convertible.
Goodwin Roadstersport ‘Race’ (The ‘race’ is the most aggressive of the different levels of roadstersport exhausts). I have one on my ND1 , its awesome!

I’m surprised this car uses the cheap-looking opaque plastic air blocker. The clear acrylic air blocker, which I thought came with upscale Miatas, looks and works far better. I got mine from the aftermarket.
There’s an orange 30th anniversary model that is parked every day on the street near me. I think it had a little dent. I just want to take it and hug it and put into a garage.
I've always been torn between miata and gr86. I owned a convertible once and never again! I do question reliability on the gr86 but it's more dailyable then the miata but I already have a suv so I really gotta think
Miatas are completely different to other convertibles, the tops are very low problem areas and mostly the only downside is the volume level at 75. But the top down drives on a good night make up for it by far
For me, a big part of the joy is bang-for-buck related. I have a nice NA, which I like just fine. She is an M-edition, with Konis and a Cobalt exhaust, and a total cost of less than $15K. Is an ND worth 3X as much? Not for me. I like the looks of the Lotus Elan-derived NA at least as much as the more modern-looking ND, so there is little incentive for me to spend more.
I have a deposit on an Elantra N dct as a daily. I already have a beater rav4 for winter and NYC jungle parking whenever I have to drive there. I’m debating on canceling the EN and ordering the club manual and doing two upgrades for summer spirited driving: good win race muffler + BB kit w/ pads they offer (mostly for looks tbh, I hate cast iron brake calipers). At 6’3 with longer torso/shorter legs I fit fine driving wise, top up is cramped abit. Given I don’t have an outlet to run a battery warmer over winter in my indoor parking spot so would have to occasionally drive it in cold months to keep the battery healthy. Worth it or naw?
Depends if you're going on the long journeys as well or you'd do fun driving mostly. If I were 6'3 I'd have hard time, but being almost 6' gives it a green light. For longer journeys, though, it'd be a challenge.
They’re tight seats. I’m 5’9 160 and they’re just right for me if not a touch snug. You allegedly sit a touch lower with the recaros so it’s better for tall people. I’d go regular seats if the height is okay.

I wish Mazda would add more fun colors like this. The red they offer is amazing. But the world deserves yellow and lime green miatas.

Weird, my nd2 seems to hang in 1st. I have to wait a second before releasing the clutch to get smooth shifts.

The Goodwin exhaust always sounds so good. They do an amazing job tuning the sound. Had it on my NC2 and it was addictive.

I own a 2020 RF 6-speed and it is my daily driver. Everywhere I go, it is a special event! I am absolutely enamored with the MX-5.

Do you have the normal or Recaro seats? When I test drove a ND2 Miata GT, the lumbar felt quite lacking for me

If I had a daily driver alongside a sporty coupe, I probably would've gone with a Miata instead of the GR86

Definitely not perfect stock. The suspension on any factory Miata is wayyyy to soft. That’s really all they need. Go drive a car with Xida’s and you will realize just how bad the stock suspension is for a sports car.
ND2 Miata suspension is great for 99 percent of buyers. For others, lots of upgrade options available. I upgraded my NC suspension and it eventually just became too annoying, no stiff, over less than perfect roads.
@@dougaugustine933 That is why you have to invest in quality suspension like onlins, Xida, Fox, Miester R GT1, fortune auto 510 etc. They ride and handle better than stock when set up properly.
My most repeated video on this channel. This thing sounds so good, these are just perfect on the street. Most performance cars are just too fast to really enjoy. You will be dead or in jail, or you drive them like grannies and they’re boring AF. Took me 56 years to learn this.

Having driven a few, My only complaint about the ND miata is the fly by wire throttle. I really missed the mechanical sensitive feel from my NB.
I can't stand driving vehicles with that. Really wish that never changed in vehicles.
It's the same story in the NC. It kinda "lags", if you know what I mean. Mechanical feel is definitely superior.
It feels ultra responsive and properly tuned for a modern car. No weird rev hang either.
Haven’t driven any older gens to compare.

I’m 6’3, I’ve driven the NA and ND. NA was a no go, knees hit the dash. Ive only sat in a NC, never driven, fit was decent. ND with top down fit me since I don’t have super long legs. Top up, my hair brushes against the roof. I think for longer torso/shorter legs dudes under 6’2ish the ND works fine. But anyone above 6’3 with long legs would have to go else where for a convertible.

Hey. Great video. I also have a 30th anniversary but mine is mostly stock and I am a happy camper. I do love the way that aftermarket exhaust sounds in the video but loud cars aren’t my thing anymore. The car is plenty loud enough in stock form for me.

I’m surprised this car uses the cheap-looking opaque plastic air blocker. The clear acrylic air blocker, which I thought came with upscale Miatas, looks and works far better. I got mine from the aftermarket.
There’s an orange 30th anniversary model that is parked every day on the street near me. I think it had a little dent. I just want to take it and hug it and put into a garage.

I've always been torn between miata and gr86. I owned a convertible once and never again! I do question reliability on the gr86 but it's more dailyable then the miata but I already have a suv so I really gotta think
Miatas are completely different to other convertibles, the tops are very low problem areas and mostly the only downside is the volume level at 75. But the top down drives on a good night make up for it by far
If you already have SUV, Miata is always the answer.

For me, a big part of the joy is bang-for-buck related. I have a nice NA, which I like just fine. She is an M-edition, with Konis and a Cobalt exhaust, and a total cost of less than $15K. Is an ND worth 3X as much? Not for me. I like the looks of the Lotus Elan-derived NA at least as much as the more modern-looking ND, so there is little incentive for me to spend more.
I have a deposit on an Elantra N dct as a daily. I already have a beater rav4 for winter and NYC jungle parking whenever I have to drive there. I’m debating on canceling the EN and ordering the club manual and doing two upgrades for summer spirited driving: good win race muffler + BB kit w/ pads they offer (mostly for looks tbh, I hate cast iron brake calipers). At 6’3 with longer torso/shorter legs I fit fine driving wise, top up is cramped abit. Given I don’t have an outlet to run a battery warmer over winter in my indoor parking spot so would have to occasionally drive it in cold months to keep the battery healthy. Worth it or naw?
Depends if you're going on the long journeys as well or you'd do fun driving mostly. If I were 6'3 I'd have hard time, but being almost 6' gives it a green light. For longer journeys, though, it'd be a challenge.

They’re tight seats. I’m 5’9 160 and they’re just right for me if not a touch snug. You allegedly sit a touch lower with the recaros so it’s better for tall people.
I’d go regular seats if the height is okay.
