The firehouse is on high alert when mysterious threats begin to emerge throughout Chicago. Lt. Casey (Jesse Spencer) works diligently to investigate the missing money from the fundraiser for the recent tornado victims. Meanwhile, Jimmy (Steven R. McQueen) agrees to represent the firehouse in the first annual "Battle of the Badges" boxing match against the 21st district police department and Chili's (Dora Madison) erratic behavior continues to be a significant issue for her ambulance partner, Brett (Kara Killmer).

Probably either budget or a fear the knowledge PD have rifles in the cruiser will be "too scawy for Mr. and Mrs. Joe Public.."

Not making fun as I'm from America and this has become a part of our nearly daily life to the point we have shootings like this more and more often and it's a terrifying thought that one day you might be in this exact situation going between running and hiding trying to survive and get to safety

Unfortunately standard procedure. When those school shootings happened, a lot of people got killed because police waited for SWAT. In this particular situation likely because of the type of weaponry - police gear would not protect you against a high powered rifle. Police has M4 in their cruiser though, so they'd be able to open fire on a sniper on the rooftop in this particular situation.

What I didn't get in that scene: When you have an active shooter, why would they deploy the Fire Department first which is unarmed? I get that in the US they are paramedics, but wouldn't you want police to confront the shooter first.
