Trumpets At Angel Recording Studios, Islington, London. 26.03.13. Trumpet Section From Left to Right: Andy Greenwood Simon Gardner (Lead) Craig Wild Pablo Mendelssohn
Over the ear headphones get in the way of the instrument. He's wearing it that way because otherwise the instrument will be at an uncomfortable angle and also be scratched by the headphones.
I can’t believe studios haven’t adapted some headphones for trombones. Pisses me off to have to offset them all the time. Need a hybrid with a large right ear and an in ear bud on the left.
Right here is the difference between the people who make a living playing music and the rest of us who have day jobs and are just "pretty good" at music.
Great Session. With the method of recording sections of a Big Band, How do you go about mixing sections dynamically? Is there an order to the recording process? Rhythm Section first, then Brass, Then Winds? Does it always come together cleanly? I'm afraid I might take my jazz band through the process and students may loose track of dynamic placement? Could an engineer easily make the necessary adjustments?
Sam Rosario you’re venturing into what makes individual studio engineers & atmospheres different. There’s not just one answer to your questions: gotta be case-specific for multiple reasons.
There is no set method. I was a studio musician in L.A. for many Yearns. The artists generally made a decision for each session, often it was totally “live” with the total orchestra. Then it could be the rhythm section and artist on tape played for the other instruments on earphones, or just the rhythm section. As a brass player I don’t remember ever having individual sections (brass, woodwinds, strings, etc. recording separately. There’s great separation so that any group, including the artist, could be re-recorded if necessary.
I thought there was something not quite right on the second entry from the Trumpets ? ...... I think Simon played a double sharp f oh what the hell do I know top stuff awesome
having hair just slows trumpet players down
I think Wayne would disagree with you
Trevian Hipp | morrison would agree
LMAO....you wrong....I know, huh?
I think Maynard, Patrick hession, Scott Dean, Lynn nicholson, Allen vizzutti, and many others would disagree
lol
I like how the trombone player is wearing his headphones.
In true trombone fashion.
Lmao

Are they wearing headphones to prevent hearing damage ?
These guys are soooo cool. Just come in, read the chart, play it perfectly, collect the cheque - done. Next.
Intonation is flawless...like one brain and same set of ears.
Can I steal that line?
“one brain same set of ears”
GENIUS!
Yea It’s insane
Yes, but it's robotistry. Very Asian sounding. Do they take batteries or do you wind them up?
More of these Studio horn sessions pls, they are awesome!
Now THAT'S what I call playin! They were ALL in the groove and listened to each other. I like that smooth buildup @1:35 🔥🔥🔥

I produced one album there with the LSO....
4 guys hitting a high D in unison for what, 24 times in a row with no clams? Could they be pros?
Without a doubt.
It is stunningly tight, but I’m pretty sure it’s 2 up top and 2 down an octave. Still incredibly impressive!
@@Combat_Trumpet Yeah, makes sense.

Do u realize live playing is the most important credential u can have?
I would argue that this is way more precise. Also they are live playing. WE as listeners do the non-live listening.
Do you think they don't play live??
Trumpet playing is bad for hair.I think.
Cool session view. Thanks for sharing
