Double Dragon (Game Boy) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

- A playthrough of Tradewest's 1990 beat 'em up for the Nintendo Game Boy, Double Dragon.
Double Dragon on the Game Boy is not a direct "port" nor adaptation of any other version of the game, though is mechanically very similar to the NES version. The moves are all the same, though the control is sharper in the Game Boy version, and the experience points/levelling system for unlocking more advanced moves has been eliminated. No more grinding enemies on the first two stages for the good moves!
It looks and sounds pretty good - except for the lack of color and the zoomed in sprites, both thanks to the Game Boy's monochromatic low-resolution screen, nearly everything looks the same as the NES version. The music is pretty close and just as catchy as you always remember it being, but it is a bit shrill for my liking compared to the NES game's soundtrack.
I really liked this version of the game. It's short, but it's a reasonable challenge, has solid controls, and it's a unique addition to a classic series.
*This video was recorded with the DMG shader in Retroarch to reproduce the look of the game running on an original Game Boy LCD screen. I hope you like it!

I played this as a kid when it first came out on the gb it absolutely blew me away. Going from just having Tetris to this was mind blowing
mission two was always my favorite level because the music.. this was one of my favorite go tos for years
This was one of the few games we received for our Gameboy when we got it for Christmas in 1994 - the other three were Kirby's Dreamland, Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge, and World Class Series. Trying to whoop Abobo's ass was TOUGH!!!!
i love the music of DD for gameboy, its so kick ass
it blows me away how much detail is packed into this double dragon port its so good.
Beyond impressive.. the music is great too.
I really like this one. It was a rare birthday gift for me, and I played the absolute hell out of it. I even hooked the Game Boy up to my ANCIENT stereo and recorded the music onto cassette. Still got 'em somewhere, too!
3:43 - 4:09
Sounds EXACTLY like the NES version
I played this game 30 years ago ... I'm now 40. I can't believe that !!!
Double Dragon for the Game Boy looks and feels like the NES game, but the levels are all new. If you loved the NES cart and was left wanting more, this is an excellent way to get it.
Considering the music kinda sounds like the NES version
This was an excellent version of Double Dragon.
Who else played this game as a kid?
I wish I played it as a kid.
@@mitu123Copper it's good man but since I was a kid I was stuck on the first boss

I think I played this when I was 10 or something, I recognize things till about halfway through the video, so that's how far I got. Fun seeing the rest of the game for once.
First game i bought as a kid, a few months after I got a gameboy for my birthday. I cleaned porches every week to earn a few bucks to buy games.
I remember playing this in the back of the car with headphones in but I could never get past lvl 3
Never had the NES game but played the hell out of this way back then, honestly I probably only got to mission 4 a handful of times, I thought my cart was defective and impossible to beat because of those damn skull doors sucking me in!
Music is so good
I almost cried, it brings back memories...
That's crazy, it's almost identical to the NES, love how my favorite song sounds through this platform
I loved this game, such a missive part of my childhood
Love this chanell hello of the Colombia..
15:44 covered this on metal guitar!!!! Like some, played this a thousand time... this is so far today....
Best Nintendo channel.
This one of the best games ever made in my opinion
OMG i instantly
was transferred at least 20+ years back! I was so happy that i find a cartridge with Double Dragon so i can play it for free,
and dont give money to electronics all the time! I only spend money for batteries on Gameboy!
When the screen gets blurry and yellow, you have to turn off the sound. It saves battery ;)
My very first game I owned when I got the Game Boy :)
Played this version on my new 3DS XL and this game was fun. I also play the NES version on my switch and the NES version was also awesome too.
that last level is insane
BY THE POWER OF THE DRAGON!
Thank You.
How do you make a Game Boy screen?
Cuanta nostalgia
those were the days
I like it
Finally beat this for the first time yesterday! Great port overall but man the jumping is especially stiff in this version, making the platforming sections much more treacherous. And as always that final stage is ridiculous.
Master system vs NES version...
Gameboy wins.
Arcade wins, and GBA
what is it with the only for play in usa and, canada? what happened to this country with the special treat? i am from Asia and i dunno what the hell is going on in usa 1988
awesome
You played it on Retroarch for Windows? Do you know if this DMG shader is available for Retroarch on Android? This is amazing, the screen looks exactly like a real Game Boy classic!
I have no idea, I use Windows. You'd have to read up on shader support for the Android version.
@@NintendoComplete I have RetroArch. Which core is this? Name of border and shader?
@@Skazellino It'll work with any Gameboy core. I think I was using Gambatte. If you update your shader files from RA's main menu, you'll find the GB shaders in the handhelds directory. I usually use the 3X one to make these recordings.
I prefere this version with the screen "yellow style " of the screen ! the pure black and withe i am not fan in fact
This version was better than the NES version. In my opinion atleast.
The NES version had alot of ridiculous platforming segments that made the game more difficult.
Lots of cheap hand held emulators nowadays so you can relieve your childhood.
👍
My favorite Game Boy game besides Super Mario Land, Tetris, Batman and TMNT.
Wow another person who loves the first SML.
@@Gameboy-Unboxings The first Mario Land is actually my favourite game of all time lol
Do people not like SML now? This must be some Zelda 2 revision style bullshit as everyone, myself included, loved it at the time.
5:41 // 7:11 // 16:03
XD
I want it
Same, this looks really good.
you almost got beatenthere just before mission 4.
C'est sur emulateur sur game boy c'est moins rapide.
Version game boy original plus difficile que cette version eMule
Cute
I Don't'T know WHY I DIDNOT BUY THIS GAME FOR GB!!
the crappy move leveling up system ruined the nes port
It did!
I like it
