OMG !!!!!!!!!!😌
I grew up in Houston as an African American kid I had a girlfriend by the name of Kelly, she won some tickets off of off of a radio station 101 rock to go see journey in the summit in Houston We were the only young black kids at that same concert in Houston!!! every time I hear this song I think of Kelly, she died in 1989 of cancer of cancer RIP Kelly😔 journey forever
There was a reason that Steve Perry was known as "The Voice". He's fantastic.
Is.
is
Ive only heard that nickname go to Whitney Houston
He's was good, but he's no Freddie.
@@patfranks785 Yeah he's fuckin above him literally. Freddie was great but Steve's range, technique and voice are fathoms better. Freddie could fuckin sing his ass off, but could never reach Steve's vocal range or output. Steve Perry also has by all accounts has literally never had a bad night singing. He's consistently outperforming the albums
Greatest comment I ever saw. Freddie Mercury was being interviewed and was asked “so what is it like to be the greatest voice in rock”. Freddies response “you didn’t tell me Steven was here”
If it's true so it's unbelievable
@@sharonudi7153 It is. He said, "I don't know. Ask Steve Perry."
Steve Perry and Journey are absolutely amazing! The voice coaches say he has a pitch perfect voice. They also say when he harmonizes with his band he even matches his vibrato to theirs? And proves it with stripped back audio. He is SO talented and so is Journey. I literally cried when he left Journey, tears were shed. 😂 ❤️
And then in '95 when you heard they were back together, bought the album, fell in love again, only to have them breakup before you got the chance to see them. It was terrible. I hate it to this day.
I was upset too when Steve left. Yeah, they managed to find a guy who could sing like him, but it STILL wasn't the same, cos it wasn't Steve Perry.
@@patticrichton1135 Deen Castronovo could sing EXACTLY like Perry, and he already knew the songs, since he was the band's drummer!
Yup
Pitch perfect Terri but great power behind his vocals as well. Amazing vocalist!
No autotune no gimmicks! Saw them live more than once and they sounded exactly like the album!! They were amazing!!
Saw them as a kid in 1979 in Chicago, then on the Escape Tour in the '80s. They sounded BETTER than the recordings. Excellent musicians. Steve Perry is up there with Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant and the best singers of the seventies - and of all time.
Steve Perry has one of, if not the best rock voices of all time.....period
He's a singers singer !!!
Ive never heard him live......this was jawdropping.......those studio recordings dont do him justice
I agree 100% agree ❤
Many great voices to fit different sound's no one best
I agree
Journey is one of the most iconic bands of the time and Steve Perry is a badass singer
If you look up best singers of all time, many of the resources have him rated number 1.
Asia saying Steve Perry can sing without the band. 😍 She’s gotta hear his solo track Oh Sherry, especially the intro.
yes sir!!!!
I had the same thought!
Foolish Heart is a gorgeous solo Steve Perry song.
Yes 👏 Sherry that be awesome to react too
Omg I love Oh Sherry
Breaking news,Journey's Don't stop believing and Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody have been added to the national registry of the Library of Congress. This is a great honor and only just over 600 songs have been preserved by the Library of Congress.
I saw them in concert 4-5 times, each one absolutely incredible, the man can sing , wow
Asia had that beautiful smile going I could tell oh yeah she witnessed one of the greatest vocalist ever period.
Literally stopped what I was doing to see this reaction. Buckle up - here come the vocal gymnastics a la Steve Perry.❤️🎼🤘😎🔥🎹🎶 definitely check out live, same show- Mother Father. He’s up in the ionosphere high and controlled, and the breath holds are ridiculous in a few Journey songs. I’m 57 and a vocalist also, saw this tour when they came thru DC. It was unbelievable- sounded exactly like the record, every song.
Even Black folk listened to Journey back then. That era was when all of the music genre basically "crossed over" to different musical styles and you saw a great mix of people at the concerts.
Yup. I lived in Alaska & got to see them as a kid. Was like a melting pot in there!
I grew up in a suburb if Cleveland, back then everybody listened to Journey!! Glad I started listening to these reaction videos because they bring back great memories from my teen years!!
Such a great time. I feel like the great divide began in the beginning of the 90s. That is when I stared to remember being teased for liking certain "white folks" music. But to this day, good music is good muac. Plain and simple. And even sometimes "bad" music is good😅
1981 was awesome!!!! I miss it sooooo much!!!!
“Whoa, the movie never ends”
That phrasing and the way he hits the notes here is my favorite pocket to be in when singing. It’s like half way between your head voice and singing from your diaphragm and when you get it right it just flows and almost slides effortlessly through your vocal chords
He is an incredible vocalist and natural performer. Love listening to him! ❤
I love those Sam Cooke-style runs he does. That was his vocal hero and it shows.
They even shared a birthday
Journey is one of my favorite bands. Saw the Escape concert twice. They were fantastic.
Saw them in 82 with the great...Loverboy and Joan Jett!
If there was ONE band that defined the 80’s and all that magical decade had to offer, Journey would easily be in the top 3. Everyone of their songs just hits you with a nostalgic feel of young love, partying, summer nights, concerts, innocence, and songs that stick in your mind forever. Listening to Journey and Steve Perry has such a way of dissolving away all the bullshit of today and taking you back to better days.
1:48 when Steve sings that first line, "Just a small town giiiiirl" and both of your body language goes......Whoa, as you both perk up at the same time. Good shit.
Steve Perry is - “The Voice” and y’all need to go down that Journey/Steve Perry rabbit hole. The 60’s-90’s (early part) Music was just great and recorded analog, and not so much as digital. Which is fine but the musicians, producers, engineers cared about the product they put out. It’s just killer! There are band members from huge band that have bands today that play that 70’s-80’s style and jam hard…. Music done right will always be Awesome!
For the most curious, here is the entrance to the burrow Jason talks about 😉: czcams.com/play/PL4TMSDjRUYOlkK_VgwKtpRhmrsP16KTLH.html
@@CyregO Yes! Lol Thank you!
Please do 'lovin, touchin, squeezin' by journey!! The vocals are insane. Just please don't do love version
@@colemandias3212 The audio from 1979 _Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’_ official video is an overdub of the studio recording. But maybe you think of another live version?
Yes yes yes, I am so glad you reacted to Journey and Steve Perry. Amazing band amazing vocal. You MUST react to Mother Father, so angelic, Lights, Faithfully, Open Arms, so so many greats but definitely Mother Father. His range is out of this world and without auto tune. Simply the best!
Check out "Faithfully" "open arms" Wheel in the sky" Steve Perry is named "THE VOICE"
No one could EVER replace Steve Perry, 2nd concert I ever went to, maybe 14 years old lol his voice is irreplaceable thanks for the memories ❤💫👍✌
EVERYTHING from the live in Houston concert is PHENOMENAL 🔥🔥🔥
LOVE JOURNEY!! Steve Perry is a great singer. More Journey!!
When You Love A Woman is one song.
The smile on her face…..loved this one.
This is the epitome of an actual amazing live vocal! Steve Perry is perfection!
"If you're listening to 'Don't Stop Believin' and you get to the part where Steve Perry sings, "Some will win, some will lose, some are born to sing the blues..." and you aren't bebopping in your seat along with the music, you have no soul." -- Todd in the Shadows
The way he emphasizes ‘sings’.. amazing
The Sopranos ended the entire series with this song. It was EPIC. You must see it. It’s a masterpiece. 💜
So many tv and movies used this song
I got to see Journey live in concert! SO AMAZING! 🖤
Me too!!! AWESOME!
They were one of the top bands in late 70s early 80s. Great band 💯. I saw them in 1978
Journey has a huge catalog of great songs! "Mother, Father", "Lovin', Touchin', Sqeezin'", "Lights/ Stay Awhile", "Feeling That Way/ Anytime", "Stone in Love", "Still They Ride", "When You Love a Woman", etc, etc, etc... Enough to keep you busy for quite some time! :)))
PLEASE react to “Who’s Cryin’ Now” and “Open Arms” - from this same Houston 1981 concert- One rocks out and the other is a beautiful ballad- PHENOMENAL!!! 💜💙👍✨
Both my faves
I anxiously await Asia's reaction to 2 of Journey's biggest hits. She will be enthralled and crying by the spellbinding romance that comes with OPEN ARMS and the soaring guitar of Neil Scheon combined with Jonathan Cain as they fill her smile with magic. After she falls for WHO'S CRYING NOW, buy a bottle of wine, add some Godiva chocolates and get some flowers. After she hears your work is done. Turn.out the lights.
I like how a singer sounds just as good live as they do on a recorded soundtrack
What a voice, and wish I played guitar, I would play like this lead guitarist. In the 60's, I was carrying a 6-8 watt radio while the Brothers were wearing juke boxes on their shoulders lol.
Love ❤️ Journey and Steve’s voice is magical! Can’t wait for you both to have a live of just Journey songs ❤️❤️❤️
amazing
One of the most iconic voices ever!
This is what I call my life song. In 1989 on June 3rd, I broke 2 bones in my neck, and was paralysed from the neck down, I started getting feeling in my arms again after 3 weeks, and 4 weeks after my accident, I was moved to a hospital in Glasgow nearer my home. I was told 1 week after my accident I wouldn't walk again, but a nurse in the Glasgow hospital, Wendy told me...rubbish, don't listen to that, I'll get you up and walking again, just Don't Stop Believing that, I hadn't even heard of this song by that time. Then I heard it on the radio a few weeks later, I thought it was a sign, about 6 to 8 weeks later, Wendy took me to the Gymnasium in the hospital, and between her, and the head Physio, Viv, they had me standing between parallel bars, taking my first step. So if someone tell you, that you can't do something, don't listen to them, prove them wrong, I did.
I was born...June 3rd...19...89.....🤯🤯🤯🤯....Amazing story...Happy to hear ot had a good ending...inspiring.....reading this just made my week....thanks for sharing 🙏🏽🫡🫡
Steve Perry is one of the strongest “ saingers,” ever! I’m born and raised in Austin and I was still in high school when Journey was on tour. My best friend and I followed them to every concert stop in Texas, which were Houston, Austin, and Dallas! Good times and lots of “ good” pot in them days!
His Mom talked him into auditioning for Journey🤣😂.
He has a very rare 8 octave range....in a rare group with Axl Rose, Mariah Carey, Whitney, Freddie Mercury, Lou Gramm...
Listen to the LIVE version of Wheel in the Sky...where he's wearing white
About 3 minutes in there's a guitar solo....he sings high with it. You think it's the guitar...it's his voice. You see him moving the microphone to enhance the mote...
His voice is still the same. You would love them in concert. They're in my top ten bands I've seen.🔥🔥🔥🎸🎸🎸
Journey - the kings of the rock ballad!
Journey was an awesome band and have many hits....Steve Perry is probably in top 10 of vocalists of all time, and on many top vocalist charts. Great reaction!
I was in 10th grade when this song came out. First Journey song I ever heard was Any Way You Want It. I'm 57 so I know all the old rock.
Steve Perry is one of the best rock vocalists. The current Journey has an Asian lead singer, sound just like Steve Perry.
I have to say, I can tell if it’s Steve or Arne in the first line of any song. Definitely sounds like Steve but no one can replicate his voice
yes, I saw them in 2018 with Arnel. he was awesome. sounds just like steve perry...
Nobody can sing like Steve
“Just like” is pretty far from accurate
@@rileyandmike Gee, I think he sounds like Steve. Sorry, you do not agree. Maybe, you should youtube the new Journey. It was not a judgement it was an observation.
Steve Perry had the perfect voice! And this is live!
You're right, the 80s were a magical time ❤️
They are one of my fav bands! I have the cords "Just a small town girl, living in a lonely world" tattooed on me. ❤
And it's even more amazing when you realize that's not the studio cut, that's recorded live.
I've seen Journey about 4 times, whenever they came to SoFL. Steve Perry's voice is unmatched..no magic with technology to hide imperfections. What you heard on stage is what you heard on their albums. You could spend a month or two covering them and be amazed on every song. One of the band's personal favorites..."Mother, Father".
Wheel in the sky, shows off Steve's voice! Always play Journey live! 💞
Yes 👍 Love 💗 that one!
One of my favorites!
Very uplifting rendition I know why u smile listening 🎧
One of the greatest voices to ever walk the planet!!
Journey has a huge catalog and it's good. Go down it. You'll love them. Steve Perry phenomenal
I feel you, Asia! I saw Journey in Denver in April 1983. Steve is my all-time favorite male vocalist.
With Brian Adams?
@@gregmann5687 Yes! Although Journey was my favorite band for so many years, I didn't pay enough attention to Brian. I wish I had.
@@vickiroman189 I was there too. Great show. I think I saw Neal Young that same year at McNichols too. :)
@@gregmann5687 The happiest times of my life. Those were the days!
Watching any artist in their prime is a joy, Steve Perry and Journey were one of my very favorite bands, musicianship, showmanship, great sound, great lyrics…they had it all. Great video 👍👍
my father use to play this on guitar and sing it to me. Now when I hear it, it reminds me of him. He died 5 years ago
You'd have to be a baseball fan to really appreciate this song. I didn't know who Journey was but I was listening to
Steve Perry talking to a baseball commentator on a sports station from S.F. giving him an interview. When on
a tour, Perry locks himself in a motel room and either practices music or watches baseball. He and others in the
group are from Chicago or the Bay Area. It had been 90 years since the Chicago White Sox won the World Series.
This under dog team began winning and they adopted this song as their theme song. They won it all!
The S.F. Giants had some good even great teams but they hadn't won a World Series since 1954. They also
adopted this song as their theme song and won in 2012, 2014 and 2016! Unbelievable!
Perry said what inspired him was his Dad. Journey had been playing for years and couldn't get a break. Perry
was going to quit, he was tired of borrowing money off his Dad to live. His Dad said, "Son, you have talent. Give
it one more shot." Steve did and they finally made it! That is why he can sing it with so much passion!
Because of the sports link and the fact I know I've heard it in T.V. commercials is probably where you heard
it before without the lyrics.
The same time Reo Speedwagon came out the lead has “ one on them voices, also” when you get a chance try to check them out. The the early 80’s was a GREAT TIME Motley Crue, Tesla ( very underrated) Van Halen , Ozzy Osborne (Solo) the best of Ozzy, it’s when Sharon took over!! Straight to the Top, multi-platinum Albums out the gate! I LOVED MY EIGHTIES Music. Class of ‘87. Damn I’m old! I’m was also jamming on ‘45 record’s and Cassettes!🤣🥺😭🤘😳!
"FAITHFULLY " is another great song from Journey. 💛💚💙
Any way you want it is a great rocker with his amazing voice. Totally worth the time.
When I was 11, my grandma wanted to get me some music to listen to for Christmas and she had no clue about what was good. She didn't listen to music. She went to Walmart and asked someone in electronics on what to get. I unwrapped a Journey cassette tape on Christmas morning, put it in my walkman and jammed out while opening the rest of my gifts... lol. good memories
One of my favorites beutifull smooth ❤😊
I have to admit,, at 53 I sometimes shed a few tears watching you react to music I grew up with like this one from the 80's..!! It was a special decade with magical music! I can't get it out of my head,,,,, and,,, don't want to..!!
Journey, Oh Sherry, Faithfully and Open Arms are also awesome songs of Journey
Steve Perry (from Journey) and Freddie Mercury (from Queen) are arguably the 2 best male vocalists in rock history, maybe even all of music history. Need more Journey? Check out Separate Ways (Worlds Apart), Only the Lonely, Faithfully, Lights, Stone in Love, etc.
@joeymcbrayer I have Steve Perry (Journey), Freddy Mercury (Queen), and Brad Delp (Boston) as Top 3 ever!!!
He wrote this looking out his hotel room in Detroit while Journey was in town for a series of concerts. He says he was looking out the window in the late evening/early morning hours and saw people walking out on the street, looking like shadows till they walked into the streetlights (Streetlight People) He didn't know that there is no "South Detroit". But he wrote the song in Detroit that one night. Detroit he said was Journey's fave city to play
I graduated high school in 1981 😳😳😳
The 80's were awesome for music.
Listen to OPEN ARMS from this same concert. You will be glad you did. Really show Steve Perry's voice.
Like Steve Perry voice live in Houston 1981 these 2 Songs Who's Crying now and Mother Father sister Brother 2 Great Songs.
The 80's was a magical decade!
Even jumping around on stage, his voice never wobbles. Saw Journey 3 times. ~ Mrs H
Mother, Father. People and Places. Wheel in the Sky
I saw this tour in 1981 at Madison square garden it was magical. The guitar player Neil Shonn, was in the band Santana at the age of 16!
Great reaction to start off the week. Journey has some great songs with positive messages. Open Arms, Faithfully, When You Love a Woman and Lights. Steve Perry also had a couple of solo hits too with great vocals......Oh Sherrie and Foolish Heart.
Journey was on the radio when I was a little kid... still love it.
If you want to see each member of Journey, at full throttle, please react to the live version of their song “Mother, Father” for the same 1981 concert in Houston. You will not regret it!
Love Journey and this song
Wow. You have a beautiful voice. More please.
I was in High school (79-81) when Journey hit the big time - everyone had a Journey Tape in their car and when just hanging out
Written by Steve Perry, Jonathan Cain + Neal Schon.
Jonathan Cain got the title from his father.
All 3 writers show iconic performances!
Suggested next Journey video: Open Arms.
I got to see them twice and they were amazing. Back then when I went to see them for thevfirst time I was 15 and I fell in love with his voice and of course his hair. Lol
He's a legend!!! You have a beautiful voice as well momma!!!
Asia and BJ I love how you two seriously take each genre and type of sound that comes your way with such open and beautiful ears!! This song was epic back in the day...I was 16 when it came out and it dominated that summer for me and my gang. Straight up music lover here and huge adoring fan of you two :)!!!
i was 16 in 81 also. This reminds me of riding my new dirtbike to school high school
Saw em on that tour...Rupp Arena in Lexington KY...place was shoulder to shoulder...and LOUD. Great live band too. They had a run for like 5-6yrs where they could do no wrong. And hands down, the biggest band in the world for a good bit of that period.
Steve Perry has one of if not the most pure singing voice of all time
That's what 'The Voice', does to us!!! Definitely how I felt when I was as a young Journey fan back in the day!!
You guys should also react to 'Mother Father, Who's Cryin' Now, Stone In Love, Lights/Stay Awhile' from this Houston concert!! It's AMAZING!!!
Powerful awesome vocals
Saw Journey in 1981 and they were awesome ! Listen to "Wheel in the Sky". You'll love it ! lOve your show !
Steve Perry is one of the greatest vocalists of any genre. Y’all definitely need to react to more from this concert. Do ‘Mother Father’ and ‘Stone in Love’. Love your reactions and your appreciation for great singers and musicians.
Steve Perry has one of the best rock voices of alltime.
When you love a woman,Journey. Awesome song for the ladies.
one of the best voices in rock... love listening to him.
I Saw Journey Live At The HAMMER SMITH ODEON Way Back In 1982 Brilliant Concert. Love Your Reviews😊👍
You should hear him sing Foolish Heart. Oh. My. Word. That really showcases his voice.
I love watching both of you react to the great music of the 60’s, 70’s and forward! Keep it up you guys are great!
There was definitely some magic taking place the night of this concert. There are several knock performances included.
First time I saw Journey was in '78 I believe with the great GREGG ROLIE on vocals with the new guy, Steve Perry. That was Journey to the MAX!
Please do a ton more Journey if you can. They have a number of great hits. Wheel in the Sky came out years earlier. Open Arms. Faithfully. Winds of March. The list goes on. Mother, Father from this same tour is great. Enjoy and thanks!🥰
Asia, you have lovely singing voice yourself!
My wife who passed away 11 years ago, this was our song. She was a girl from a small town in Connecticut and I was born in Detroit (original city mentioned in album song). We met in a night club. I cry almost every time I hear it.
"Steve Perry - Oh Sherrie" next, his voice is really on display in that one.
