Fletching Noise and Trajectory at 100 yards Test - Bohning X-Vane, AAE Max Stealth, Blazer

  • In this video I test fletching noise of 4-fletch 2.25" Bohning X Vane, 3-fletch AAE Max Stealth, and 3-Fletch Bohning Blazer.
    Also relative trajectory at 100 yards might be deduced.
    As with all tests, ideally, you'd do this over a few iterations and get an average ... but for what it's worth, here's one of my tests.

    Absolutely well done! Straight forward, honest, and objective. Great job Sir. I love video reviews like this. Ones that don't bash one over the other....just state the facts. Blazer, X vanes, Max Stealth....all good choices. Great review brother!

    Great job Ryan, That 2013 Hoyt Carbon Matrix is a fabulous bow. I'm impressed by your shooting. My similar tests conclude that the height of the vanes contribute to the superior steering of the arrow, unfortunately the height also increases the noise. I have been experimenting with 3 and 4 inch feathers and decreasing the height with a Young feather burner and getting very good results with the steering and lower noise. Keep up the good work!

    Great video, I can't help but think that aggressive helical angles will increase the sound, flu flu's that spin are very loud, but flu flu's that are straight vein seem to be quieter maybe?

  • @josephtreadlightly5686

    I have set up a camera like 15 yards away & lower than the target 2 test noise. I was shooting from a location so that there was a barrier blocking the noise of the shot. Just interested in arrow noise during that crucial time when the arrow gets closer 2 the target. I'm going 2 test 3 vs. 4 vanes this spring. What is your opinion on the Bohning X3 vane which is 2.25" long? I'm putting together some 23 diameter shafts right now using the X3's.

  • @RC_Berserker
    @RC_Berserker Před 3 lety +1

    I set up 3 AAE pro MAX in a 4 fletch and 3 is the AAE stealth... the stealths seem to fly better but drop on target more. The pros, if your form is off a little, you’ll see it in your arrow flight and it will kick out but then comes back pretty good, but not as fast as the stealths. I like to run a 4 fletch so I’m looking for something that’s between the pro max and the stealth is size 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @ryankohatsu8836
      @ryankohatsu8836  Před 3 lety +1

      you could try flex fletch 2.5 or 3.0. little lower profile than comparable similar lengths. maybe 4 fletch the 2.5. I’ve been using flex fletch 360 lately and happy with those. if I had to make a long range wind arrow, I’d be experimenting that 2.5 or 3.0. maybe even smaller if my broadhead will allow.

      @@ryankohatsu8836 I’m pretty dialed in 20-40 but have tons of room in my yard to go out as far as I want, so I want to build an arrow that’s good for that and close up. I’ve been shooting bow pretty much all my life but grew up in a non-hunting family and none of my buddies want to take me on hunts 😭 next season, I’m going if I have to learn the ropes solo or not! That’s why I’ve been practicing and experimenting so much

      Get out there and try! No better way to get started than to just get out there. Good luck!
      And to be honest, the average hunter probably goes through a few "hunting buddies" over a course of their life and most do not work out. It's just life. In that context, it may almost be better to get out there on your own first, no ties, no obligations, just go, and see where it leads. aloha!

    I can't get the aae max stealth to stick to a gold tip hunter. Any tips

    • @ryankohatsu8836
      @ryankohatsu8836  Před 4 lety +1

      Use the aae primer pen and max bond glue. Or a cheaper alternative, wipe the base of the vane and shaft with acetone first then glue. I use only the max bond or aae fastest gel. No generic super glues. Many super glues are generally too hard and dont display enough toughness to handle shock and bending from firing an arrow and will just flake or crack off. Heck even the aae fastset gel may be a bit too hard for my liking but it works good enough. Top preference for me is the aae max bond.

    • @GmAn-vo8cf

      @@ryankohatsu8836 I wiped with acetone and they are solid on maxima reds but pull right off the gt's. Thanks

    • @ryankohatsu8836

      @@GmAn-vo8cf hmm... this video was a while ago so I may have used gold tip's tip grip for gluing those vanes. I have used a scouring pad in the past to rough up the carbon surface a little to make crappy super glue stick to carbon but that was back in the 90s before people made better glues specifically for archery. I don't shoot gold tips now so I'm not quite sure what could be the issue beyond that. Maybe old glue? I have had the problem in the past too. Doesn't even dry fully when too old or the other end of spectrum way too brittle.

    Well i like your video till u said u were gonna use rage BH. I can guarantee that if u go with a single bevel BH and 500 grain or more arrow u will blow through everything in North America. And if u ever shoot a bad angle shot u will not blow through with a rage and u will eventually lose an animal sooner or later just my 2 cts. But i will say it is great seeing fellow archers who look like me hunting👍🏽

  • @BennyCFD

    Nah no way at 100 yards, arrows next to the paper plate. Olympic level archers would be happy with that at 70 meters that's almost 90 feet past that.
