2017 BMW K1600GT Review | Long-Day Test Ride

  • BMW K1600GT gets some updates for 2017. The already ultra-comfortable touring machine is even more luxurious, as we’ll show you in this review. The 2017 K1600GT gets auto-leveling dynamic ESA as standard, reshaped fairing and a Reverse Gear (as an option) which is a must have, considering the heavy weight this motorcycle has.
    We tested the K1600GT on the highway and on curvy mountain roads. And the result is spectacular.

    ...a couple of years ago a Dutch motorcycledealer enabled me to do a testride on one of the early models. Boy, did I love that beautiful six sound! And then this torque! Once on the highway I humiliated a Porsche 911. Easily... Alas... It's way too expensive for me...

    Great Video! This is a great bike. One warning about the reverse mode is that brakes are applied automatically about 2 seconds after pulsing the starter button. If the steering head is turned when this happens, I can attest this causes an abrupt shift in balance, to the point of dropping the bike. VERY expensive mistake, fortunately covered by insurance. By the way, invest in the drop bars fore and aft. This will avoid a heap of sorrow and expense. Fantastic video. Keep up the good work!

    Good review; short, entertaining and informative. After all said and done, looks like a great bike for those who generate a great deal of money. I had to give up Beemers, not because they're bad bikes - they're excellent - but the cost of ownership became onerous. The last straw was when my friendly BMW dealership wanted to charge me almost $2000 to replace an idler gear; drove me right back to Japan. . .

      Dealers are extortionate. Never use them as they have a 100% mark-up. One eg: they quoted over £700 for a UK mot (£27), stating work done to pass the mot. Took it to another authorised Mot station & it passed with no issues.

    Very good review! Can I ask you in your future reviews to test ride the bike in 20-30 mph winds. The fairing on my 2016 R 1200 RT, acts like a sail, and gusts of wind really unsettle the bike, and rider! You have to ride with the screen right down in order to control the bike in the wind. And the 1200 doesn't have a reverse! Which it needs very badly! Great review! Many thanks.

    I currently own a K1200LT, which is the fore runner to the K1600GT/GTL, and while not as powerful as the new 1600, and not quite as high tech, it's still a fantastic ike which will do pretty much everything the 1600 will? The LT came "Fully Equipped" with Heated Seats, Electric Windscreen, a Brilliant Cruise Control, a 6 stack CD player with AM/FM radio which can be adjusted on the move, and Brembo A.B.S Drakes. It handles much better than the 1500 Gold Wing I owned a few years ago, and is much better equipped. The standard lighting isn't as good as it could be, and it doesn't have traction control? I rarely ride at night, and am rarely in a position where Traction Control is needed? If I were to win the Lottery i'd buy a K1600GTL, but I am more tha happy with my "Budget" K1200LT.

  • @edwardballow2268
    @edwardballow2268 Před 7 lety

    Great bike. I've spent a lot of time on an RT and ride with a guy who currently owns one, My biggest complaint was overtime that riding position (sport tourer) can be a little numbing on long days (over 300 miles). I love sport touring motorcycles and this one is no doubt the best one out there. That said there is nothing like riding with your legs stretched out on highway pegs and handlebars that come right to you. More of a riding position thing but what a machine.

    • @gabbyhayes1568
      @gabbyhayes1568 Před 6 lety

      Agreed. I love sport touring bikes as well, but I simply can't tour on them any more. I went back to touring cruisers (gave up my Concours 14). There are trade offs with every bike, but it's extremely difficult to find a sport tourer that has the comfort of a cruiser. You give up the power for the comfort.

    • @edwardballow2268
      @edwardballow2268 Před 6 lety

      I might still have to give this one a try. I love the performance + all the features this bike offers. I've been looking at them ever since they first came out. Love the Concours 14 as well.

    • @PaulBeardsell-0
      @PaulBeardsell-0 Před 5 lety

      This is not a cruiser, it's a tourer. There are plenty of sports cruisers with more aggressive seating positions than this. I'm 6ft and practically upright on my K1600GT, little weight on my arms.

    It's a beautiful bike, & being a K will be smooth too. Perfect for motorway driving.
    But it is a VERY heavy bike for in-town driving, to manoeuvre it without engine assistance, do U-turns, & if it topples over, no chance of lifting it without help.

    Good Video. Thank you! The only thing I didn't like about it were your revs. Much too high for the speed you are going on normal roads, except motorway. Except overtakings, there are no reasons to use more than 3 to 4k rpm. You often don't need the first gear. You can do 30km/h in 4th gear easily and 55km/h in 6th gear and the time from 55 to 100km/h is so short...
    Greetings from a K1600GT Driver for several thousand KMs... :)
