Russia's future seems to be very bleak even if they can manage to win this war. The hard and difficult to accept truth is that, the mass majority of the Russian people have lost their capabilities in every respect in order to be regarded or respected as a capable, powerful and influential nation. They are rather struggling to exist on the face of the planet. For how long would this poor nation be able to hold this huge landscape together? It is unlikely to be long. Because, Russians are no longer a nation of brave hero fighters, rather they are now a nation of cowards. They are reluctant and frightened to fight. The west is saying that, Russians have forgotten to fight all together.

Do they really feel more connected to atheist China or the Muslim Stans? How will they feel about being totally spurned and demonised in the West for a very , very long time? No more education or vacationing in Greece or Europe , maybe even the US will close their border to them . This will in my opinion be very hard. Naturally it will effect the richer Russians more than the lower middle classes but surely it must hurt.

A large part of Russia's GDP involves gas and oil. This is fine currently as, although sales volume has dropped, prices have risen. One of the causes of the invasion was the discovery of new gas fields in Ukraine, which would undercut the Russian market. Once hostilities are over the Ukrainian gas fields will be exploited and Russian GDP will take a strong hit - then Russians will know that there WAS a war and Russia lost it. Possibly then they will take a greater interest in world affairs.

The claim that Russia invaded because Ukraine discovered oil and gas is speculation. What evidence do you have that this was what Russia concerned about? I haven't seen any, all Putin and the foreign minister have talked about is Russian history, the A3ov battalion, discrimination against Russians, and NATO expansion. There's no evidence that this is about oil and gas, and I've followed this conflict since it started on February 24th, so I think I would have seen credible evidence if there were any. You're simply passing off speculation as fact. Here's a counter argument, why would Russia be concerned about oil and gas in Ukraine given that Russia has the Nord Stream which enables them to export oil and gas at low cost, while Ukraine has no means to extract and export their oil and gas for years to come. Furthermore, Europe has responded to the war with heavy sanctions, so if anything destroyed their oil and gas industry, it was the invasion itself.

And yes, I agree, the war isn't brought home to the Russian people living in the big Western cities like Moscow or St Petersburg, the troops are coming from the rural provinces. "It's over the hill somewhere, doesn't affect us, and the TV news is all supporting the war", so no surprises there. But I think, like the tennis players on the Titanic, they just don't know or want to know that there's a problem with the ship of state. They all felt a big lurch, things are listing a bit, something's amiss, but it's not enough to bother with until the alarm bells start ringing. 🔔

Arthur i 100% believe and aggree with your truthfull and simple said comment,it all comes down to "GREAT FEAR" in a police state. But for world peace, as long as this police state dont stop bothering other countries progress, they must be STOP!!!!I, I'm quite sure they can still managed on their own and have their own peacefull diplomatic relations with nations intrested doing business with them, nobody forces nobody and nobody invades another country just because that country feels fit to do bussiness with whomever.

RAY BAR: Extremely poor grammar - allow me to correct it. You wrote .. 'YOUR conditioned .. ". This is incorrect; it should be written .. "YOU'RE .. ". This is what is known as a 'contraction', [as one takes "YOU ARE" .. , (a bi-syllabic phrase), removes the letter 'A' from the start of the word 'ARE', and inserts an apostrophe, (one of these ( ' ) .. ), instead, between 'YOU' and the remaining part of the word 'ARE', (.. '-RE'), to link them and form the more easily pronounced, 'contracted', concatenated, monosyllabic form .. 'YOU'RE.' ] Unfortunately, 'YOUR' spelling of the word, (as I've just rendered it, in capitals, 'YOUR'), means .. 'BELONGING TO YOU', and not .. 'YOU ARE', (as the context in which you used it in 'YOUR' sentence suggests was the meaning you wished to convey). Happy to advise and assist .. Mr.Swann, South-West England, (where English is spoken and written correctly.)

We Russians saved your asses from German fascism at the cost of 27 million people 80 years ago, and once again national fascism has reared its head, on the territory of Ukraine. Do you think we will tolerate this? You're wrong. The Russian nation consists of 200 nationalities, where we live in respect for each other. For example, I am an ethnic Volga Bulgarian, I have two native languages: Bulgarian-Tatar and Russian. We will not let our multinational culture and centuries-old civilization be destroyed.

Most of the population in every country are conservative, very ANTI-humanitarian and will support almost any war even if based on lies along with atrocities. The antiwar groups are almost always unpopular and usually emanate from younger population. This is what the Vietnam war was like in US also. The anti war vote was no more than 30 to 40 percent on a good day. Part of the antiwar group were people who wanted to nuke vietnam.
Military institutions are the most popular institutions on earth according to surveys.
Race, ethnic, gender, religious, immigration issues are another source of darkness and hatred in human population. Politicians who pander to it are called demagogues. Politicians like Trump and DeSantis are demagogues so are popular with many people. Even with their coziness with Putin, they don't lose much vote. This is the dark side that runs thru the human population since time immemorial. This is where true political conservatism comes from. Reagan's popularity stems from racism and vietnam war loss.
You should look up the Milgram Experiments.
When Russia fully becomes an isolated pariah state within next two years, most of the Russians can do a Kumbaya and re-elect Putin.
