Russia actively sabotages the independence of Europe from Russian gas some pro-Russian European leaders campaigns were even financed by the Russian elite likely just making a middleman to hide the Russian government, and as Europe could get gas much cheaper from Russia than anywhere else, it was not very hard to persuade. There was also a sense that if Russia will be dependent on European money, it will behave better than if Europe let Russia become the next North Korea. Ukraine's gas exploration was among European projects that got sabotaged by Russia when they started chaos in neighboring Transnistria just to make Western gas exploration company back off from the deal to start digging gas on Ukraine's soil that would make Ukraine far less dependent perhaps even allow export to the EU itself, something that Russia certainly did not want let to happen. While some media can make you think that everybody in leadership is stupid while they are armchair generals everybody should listen to, Europe wanted good relationships with both the US and Russia but as the US during the Bush Junior administration promised Ukraine NATO membership and later administration actively interfered with the democratic process in Ukraine to counteract the same activity performed by Russia which wanted keep its Western buffer and control over the Black Sea at all cost similarly as the US was willing to do anything to keep Russia out of Cuba, Russian leadership found itself in a position which could not win just by economic trade incentives, bribery or threats like poisoning leaders that did not play the ball and thus chosen diplomacy by military means..

There are better weapon systems available to be sent to Ukraine - like our current equipment rather than the reserve stuff we have mainly sent. Russia on the other hand has no further card to play except terrorism in the West (that'll mean major enhancements to supplies for Ukraine) or Nuclear threats. Russia would end up Radioactive Glass in a nuclear war - it only has a handful of significant population centres and only the population of Germany+UK.

Certainly, energy providers were at fault (as mentioned in this video) by not considering the long-term reliability of their main supplier, which is a responsible consideration irrespective of whatever business sector you are in when reliant on suppliers.
A troubling point is that Gazprom was underusing gas storage in Europe during 2021 suggesting that further invasion of Ukraine beyond crimea was years in the planning.

Your comment indicates that you have the best grasp on the current conversations happening within the EU. To say that EU looks towards the US strategically is laughable. It would by more accurate to say that the EU and US are economic competitors and that any discussion around strategic planning is cantered within its geopolitical area without consideration of the US.
The EU's 'pullback' (as you term it) is a direct consequence of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The blame for any breakdown in good faith and goodwill between the EU and Russia fall on Russia with its invasion of Ukrain, particularly as Russia repeated lied about the purpose of its military build-up on the Ukrainian border prior to the invasion.

The theory is that if the EU was so heavily integrated with the health of Russia's markets, and Russia was reliant on German engineering and other EU imports, it would prevent any chance of war. I drove from Brno to Vienna in June. I saw nothing but hundreds of windmills on either side of the motorway after crossing into Austria. Austria and Germany are proudly anti-nuclear even though it is safe, clean, carbon-free and has nothing to do with nuclear weapons production.
The EU continues to fail to recognize or mention the need to increase the supply of domestic energy production. Hundreds of Billions have been poured into “green energy” which can not power a first-world nation. No amount of solar or wind will be enough to sustain the EU’s energy needs, and the “energy transition “ is a sham.
The EU’s anti nuclear stance will drive the continent into poverty. Nuclear is carbon-free and entirely unrelated to nuclear weapons or proliferation. The Fukushima disaster was from a tsunami occurring at a coastal nuclear plant whose backup power generators were placed below sea level. Fukushima was used as an excuse by the European Green Party lobby to accelerate the decommissioning of nuclear reactors in Germany, and prevent construction of new nuclear plants.

Russian gas is not just cheap it is priced in euros. Meaning pre-sanctions the ECB could print money without any exchange rate risk to EU-wide energy prices and subsequently inflation. By all means, Europe can substitute for Russian energy but it would have to pay in dollars to the likes of Qatar, Algeria, Australia, Nigeria, USA.
Remember, Russian gas has always supplied East and Central Europe (including East Germany)since the time of the Soviet Union. The dislocation is not a twenty-year dependence, but an 80-year dependency.
These analysts did not see this coming instead they were predicting economic collapse for Russia and boasting of the strong poker hand that the EU had over Russia.
For Europe like the naked emperor, it is a tragedy to be energy naked and refuse to recognize your nakedness, and instead stridently insist others buy into your 'beautiful green clothes' narrative.
The claim that Europe doesn't have LNG terminals is misplaced, the UK has Milford Haven, the Dutch Rotterdam, Lithuania Klaipeda, and the Poles Świnoujście. These are all connected to the European gas pipeline network.
By the way who's the biggest supplier of enriched uranium with a 35% global market share? Russia. By all means, build your new reactors but don't forget to build enrichment facilities.

@@michaeldavison9808 You use pejorative terms to talk nonsense. The fact Russia was willing to be paid in Euros excluded the EU from any pass-thru energy price inflation from dollar exchange rate strength. It was akin to the EU having its own domestic energy resource much like the US shale gas. Imagine if the US were to lose all its shale gas and had to import at higher prices; then tell me that it wouldn't affect the strength of the dollar and monetary instruments.
Nominally Russian gas in currency terms did not fall under imports; however, every dollar purchase of energy/goods by the eurozone is an import and counts towards increasing its trade deficit or lowering its trade surplus.
The increased demand in the eurozone for dollar-valued gas increases the demand for dollars vis a vis the euro. The eurozone would be selling euros to buy dollars, weakening the euro.
This consequent weakening of the euro against the dollar is a source of pass-thru inflation. Any increase in money supply to rescue/subsidize weaker eurozone states exacerbates this trend; more currency chasing fewer domestically produced goods as Russian gas is now reclassified in currency terms as an import. This can only be ameliorated by higher interest rates which place an increased burden on heavily indebted EU states.
Russia has subsidized the ECB growth in balance sheet assets (QE ) that facilitated the high credit ratings of economically weak EU states: the ECB has bought sovereign paper to create artificial demand that lowers the bond yields of EU states, and Russia's prior willingness to be paid in euros added to the non-imported goods available in the eurozone, supporting this financial scheme.
I understand you are hostile to Russia but the economics speak for itself, the EU loses not just on energy supply but also on a factor of production that used to be domestically priced, and now counts as an import. That makes the euro weaker, and higher interest rates likely, which in turn increases the possibility of debt defaults.

I’m sure they did, but if they’re anything like American politicians , who’s going to object?
This sort of negligence happens when politicians are invested in the private utility companies up to their eyeballs and could care less where their profits come from, and even less about doing a competent job for their constituency. It’s extremely shortsighted for the well-being of the country, but personally lucrative, even in the short run., for those involved.

That folly is now being reversed but the EU will experience at least five years of intense economic pain.

My view as a non-westerner: If Europe is so dependent on Russia oil and gas, why does EU impose sanctions on Russia? This very act of sanctions is going to make/has made Europeans become energy deprived and therefore suffer because renewable energy is weak and still unreliable, additionally Europe is weaning off nuclear energy. There are other ways to deal with Russia, the sanctions are stupid in that it causes many supply shortages. From being dependent on Russia to now dependent on the US, is that any better? Better solution is to be powered by nuclear energy, clean and reliable, but no, because of the lobbies. Europe is committing economic suicide. Inflation + cold + hunger + unemployment do not mix well, the civil unrest come winter is foreseeable, so is the economic decline in Europe hereafter. It is an incompetent leadership, or is their intention to destroy Europe with the aim to achieve a reset?

I love the format of this video. If only one person was reading form the script a lot more people would notice the propaganda. As you have multiple experts finishing each other's sentences, it makes the propaganda look so much more subtle. Great work, guys.

Imagine the hubris of thinking you can tell a country what currency they have to sell their gas in and how much they have to sell it for after declaring defacto war against them militarily and economically and being shocked when they just say no we'll sell it to someone else.

Why do they keep saying "cheap" oil and gas. Its not cheap. These young pie in the sky young people are indirectly setting up the fallacy that the "normal" price of energy
is that coming from expensive inefficient and undependable renewables..which are quite the polluters as well when you look around the edges.

I think this is very simple to solve, how? We're humans and sometimes make mistakes . Now The United States of America and Europe should tell President Putin the West had made a mistake and they are sorry , drop all the sanctions imposed on Russia 🇷🇺 and tell Ukraine they cannot join Nato and also the western world should stop interfering in Ukraines internal affairs that's all ....
