THE greatest unfinished match of all time. I was rooting so hard for Rafa, the first set tiebreak pretty much had me screaming Especially when he hit the pass to save set point, and again when he hit the pass to convert his own set point. But I actually felt depressed when this match ended the way it did :(
Fair play to both, even though it was just 1.9 sets it was a thrill while it lasted. 3h03 for 2 sets and the 2nd set tiebreak wasnt even played. Truly astounding stuff.

@@tlefevre2918agree, that'd be too hard for any athlete. Not like the 11 hour wimbledon match, that was serve boting. This is arduous playing, on the most arduous court. It could've reached a length of around 5 hours, perhaps 5.5, but not more. Unless both started to try to wear the other one down

@@patrickswampsI’m of the opinion Nadal was gonna win that 2nd set tiebreak, then down 2 sets after 3 and a half hours… no way anyone can put up any resistance in that situation. Zverev likely would’ve folded and lost the 3rd set

Sasha’s cries still get to me on such an elemental level. It’s just chilling and so devastatingly sad. I’m so happy he’s back, healthy, and winning tournaments, but by golly do I wish Nadal hadn’t drawn him as his first round farewell RG.

I remember this match, the conditions played into why it was so long and physical. For some reason Roland Garros decided to keep the roof closed and Chatrier doesn’t have de humidifiers so the humidity was extreme. Rafa said it was one of the more uncomfortable matches he ever played. I hope he get to play outdoors be Zverev this time cause outdoors favors Rafa

You could hear the echo of the tendons crack during the ankle twist, it was that bad an injury. One of the most harrowing nightmares one can experience on a tennis court.

I am number 1 Rafa fan but he cannot win Monday let’s be realistic. He isn’t a youngster anymore. Already in 2022 people doubted he could beat Sacha. But know his level has dropped a lot since this last match
Roland Garros greatly disrespected both of these 2 players by making them face each other in the first round this year.

With all due respect, please...the way he choked in the first set...I won't be so sure. Sure the match would've been very close but Zverev would've most likely lost...especially if it went to the fifth set. Choking under pressure is the no.1 reason Zverev hasn't won a slam yet.

Ce match aurait duré au minimum 5 heures de trmps ! Vu le niveau des deux joueurs et l'intensité affichée sur chaque point du match, preuve presque 3 heures de jeu pour à peine deux sets ( dont un non achevé) avant la terrible blessure de zverev !

Most people always say “if Zverev didn’t get injured he would definitely get the win” and it’s fair enough to assume that but come on, even tho he was playing the best match of his career he just blow off a massive advantage to win the first set and never looked actually solid on big points, Rafa neither but he could handle himself good enough to be 1 set up

But the Nadal that we see in this match (and a short time ago) is another, one full of fetishes, and in this case full of trickery, taking extra time, when it is not rest, taking time to get ready to receive the serve, doing everything that he had to fight with, with players who instead of showing a good level sought to get him out of rhythm, get him out of concentration; Well now all that is being used in this match.
Incidentally, Zverev was able to not only be a finalist, but even win this Grand Slam.
Sometimes he is too much of a fan not to see all this.
This match felt like Zverev was going to win.

Zverev have so many chances to win this first two sets without tie-break,but he choked,3 double faults in 1 game…and so many easy unforced errors on important balls

Zverev a beaucoup plus à perdre que Nadal lors de ce premier tour.
Côté Nadal, le pire qui puisse lui arriver était de perdre au premier ou deuxième tour contre un "petit". Or, s'il perd contre Zverev, un adversaire qu'il connaît bien et qu'il a déjà battu, même si depuis de l'eau a coulé sous les ponts, il partira au terme d'un dernier bel au revoir, sur le court Philippe-Chatrier, et sous le feu des projecteurs: depuis hier, tout le monde ne parle que de ce match ! Et puis s'il s'impose, quoiqu'il se passe après, son Roland sera déjà réussi.
Or, côté Zverev, on sait qu'il a besoin d'un peu de confiance avant de vraiment rentrer dans ses matches, surtout en grand Chelem face aux gros. D'autant plus que le public sera à fond pour Rafa, et qu'on connaît tout aussi bien la capacité de l'allemand à se liquéfier dans les points qui comptent, que celle de l'espagnol à se transcender dans ces points-ci justement. De plus, c'est un peu le Roland ou jamais pour Zverev: au pic de sa forme physique à 27 ans, il sort d'une belle victoire à Rome et ce tournois de Paris est plus ouvert que jamais. Les années precédentes, il n'aurait pas fait le poids face à un Djoko, Alcaraz, voire même Ruud en demie l'année dernière. Mais cette année, s'il parvient à s'extirper de ce piège du premier tour dans lequel tout le monde s'attend à ce qu'il plonge la tête la première, le chemin peut se degager vers une potentielle demie face à Djoko ou Ruud.
De mon côté j'ai grandi et découvert le tennis devant Nadal en espérant chaque année qu'il perde pour voir un peu de changement, mais ce serait magique de le voir faire une belle dernière danse à Paris, et je rêve d'assister à une dernière demie de légende Nadal-Djokovic. Vamos Rafa !

Solo vi el primer set, no me gustó Nadal, si bien siempre resta muy atras esta vez sus devoluciones (las que podia devolver) eran tiros blandos al centro que pasaban por muy poco la red, solo que zverev incompresiblemente ha tenido errores muy alarmantes, otro jugador un poco mas fino le ganaba facil a ese Rafa 6-1 ese set. La mayoria de puntos de Nadal eran por errores groseros de Zverev que era quien dictaba la situacon porque la mayoria de sus puntos eran por wiinners. En resumen un 7-6 totalmente engañoso debido a los muchos errores de zverev y a un Nadal demasiado pasivo. Lo poco rescatable ese passing en el tiebreak que evitó que ganara el set el aleman.
Si Zverev viene fino y con menos errores no forzados creo que se lleva a Nadal en 3 o 4 sets y eso que soy fanático de Nadal
Todo dependerá de las condiciones, si hay mucha humedad Zverev dominará pero si esta soleado y la pelota bota más pues será un juego más reñido. Ese juego que tuvier9n en el 2022 se veía una pelota de Nadal que no botaba y le quedaba cómodo al alemán para golpear sin problemas y el factor era lo húmedo que estaba el ambiente
@@angelandresinfante4791 buena acotación, recuerdo en 2018 unos cuartos de final con Shartzman que el argentino lo domino por completo ganando 6-3 y 3-2 con saque, el clima era humedo y los tiros de Nadal no hacian daño. Por suerte se suspendio por lluvia. Al dia siguiente se reanudo con sol y Rafa lo dio vuelta muy facil creo con un parcial de 16-2 desde ese momento. Mucha diferencia. Ese RG 2018 fue el unico set que se dejo en el camino. Otrao que recuerdo es la final con Djokovic en 2012, donde despues de ir 2 sets arriba facil empezo a ser mas humedo y seco el ambiente y djokovic empezo a remontar, gano el tercero y se puso break arriba en el cuarto me parece, luego regreso el sol y Rafa lo termino ganando en 4 sets.
