The hardest part is just getting space to work. So if you have that You can get started with some clamps , angle grinder, safety gear and there are several videos on CZcams on making a cheap forge for heat treating

Here's a challenge for sharpness: fillet onion skin paper without going all the way through, at least a strip 3/4" long, 3/8" wide.
We’ll see what everyone brings and how they test it! I’m sure there will be some epic tests!
That takes a purpose built knife! I did a custom convex grind kitchen knife that will pull that off, but my wood chopper is never that sharp.
Is this the first time you're a participant rather than a judge? (In one of the challenges you've arranged, I mean).
We’ve only had judges for the last 3 challenges. Before that I participated in all of them.
