    I love absinthe! Even after bartending for a few years I never used it at work, so imagine my surprise when I turned 21 last month and learned that absinthe is not still illegal, as I had been told previously. Needless to say I immediately bought a bottle and have been trying a different cocktail every night.

  • @cezarcatalin1406
    @cezarcatalin1406 Před 4 lety +16

    There is a cocktail called “fairy schmint”
    - 40ml absinthe
    - 60ml light roast pot coffee
    - 20ml mint liquor
    - 10ml midori melon liquor
    - 10ml salted caramel syrup
    - whipped cream
    - nutmeg
    Bring to a simmer in a pot 1/3 finely ground light roasted coffee and 2/3 water.
    Filter it, add the caramel syrup and add it to the serving glass.
    Stir the absinthe and the liquors separately in a glass, layer them on top of the sweetened coffee in the serving glass.
    Cover the top of the glass with some whipped cream and sprinkle some nutmeg.
    There is an other version where fernet branca is added to the coffee and the caramel, also the amount of absinthe and midori is slightly upped. The brown to green ratio in this cocktail is always around 50-50.
    The key here is creating a very spicy herbal coffee drink that balances the tartness of the coffee with the sweetness of midori and caramel.
    I love this cocktail but it’s not for everyone since the strong wormwood and anise flavour of absinthe is strongly expressed in this drink.
    If you like sweet drinks, irish coffee and absinthe then you might also like this one.

    They don't sell absinthe in my local liquor store. And I've only sampled it once years ago at a friends house. I need to do some more research to see if there are any other liquor stores in my area that might carry a bottle. I bet it's damn expensive.

    • @juleguapa
      @juleguapa Před 4 lety +1

      Not damn expensive! For example, the two bottles you can see at. 1:05 (the one on the right and in the middle) are from Jade Absinthe. These are some of the best in the world and they cost around 70,- Euro, which of course is not cheap, but nothing compared to some expensive Wines, Whisky or Cognac. If you search for a real good absinthe that is around 40 Euro, I highly recommend the Mansinthe from the destiller Oliver Matter, who created this Absinthe for Marilyn Manson!

    There’s a mysterious cocktail I know of named the Bombay no. 2. I only know of the ingredients but not really the ratio; the ingredients are,
    Cognac,
    Absinthe,
    Sweet vermouth,
    Dry vermouth
    And orange liqueur.
    The mystery of the drink is that I haven’t seen one in a video before.
