In Crazy Gadget, you can avoid the rings without using the superbounce. Try a spindash-jump off of the corners, which conveniently are quarterpipes that net you enough momentum to get up to the ledge. In Final Rush, certain portions of grinding do give you points, like the aforementioned shortcut over the short rails, but most points are awarded by jumping off the ends marked with a green X. Those are trick spots, and any jump off of them results in some kind of points: 200 for a very slow speed, 500 for an average speed, and 1000 for a fast speed. A very well-hidden rail can skip the entire section after the big downward spiral, but I vaguely recall a 1500-point bonus for a smooth transition to said rail. Overall, a great video series that can be expounded upon if you wish to continue it. However, to keep your sanity, avoid the Tails and Eggman stages, as they will definitely not be easy to optimize.

I think you actually get 0 points for the time bonus if you take more than 9 minutes and 20 seconds (doesn't quite have to be 10 minutes), because I believe the time bonus is 10,000 minus 20 points for every second that passes after the 1-minute mark. So, 500 seconds (8m 20s) after 1 minute (9m 20s total) reduces the time bonus by 10,000 (500x20), bringing it down to zero.
Yeah, I've been watching a lot of various challenge videos lately (such as coinless challenges in Mario games, among others), and if there's something that I feel I need to point out, I will place a comment.
This would also explain why the Green Forest bonus for finishing at exactly 8 minutes wasn't anything like a round number, which is what you'd have expected if the zero point cutoff was exactly 10 minutes.
So the total minimum score for this video is... Spoilers! 3,520 points (including Time Bonus). I would like to see more of this, but I understand how difficult this was to make, so I don’t mind if it stops here. In all honesty, I’d like to see the whole game done like this and I believe you can do it, but don’t force yourself to.
One thing to note (about the first part, I wasn't sure if you would be aware of it by the time you would upload part 2 of this challenge): In City Escape and Pyramid Cave you can reduce your points by 20 and 10, respectively, in pretty much the same way. The 20 points in City Escape come from the box right after the Boarding section at the start. You don't need to break a box here. Instead you're able to Spindash and jump through the opening in between the boxes and the wall in order to pass this obstacle. It can be a little difficult as you'll be under attack by a Robot while attempting this, and sadly you can't use the fenced nearby for cover as the bullets go right through them. The Pyramid Cave 10 points are (obviously) from the single Ring collected by getting to the key to open the door. Aside from the Super Bounce mentioned in this video, there's actually another way similar to the City Escape trick, though this one will likely be considered a glitch. Specifically you can skip getting the key and thus the points all together by Spindash jumping through the side of the door (picture the door being the same Box in City Escape and try to get through in the same manner). This trick is a little more precise than the City Escape trick, but you don't have any enemies to worry about, so you can take all the time you need.
Nothing wrong with the bounce "glitch." It's not even a glitch, it's just an exploitation of how momentum is calculated in SA2. All code working as intended.

The camera changes perspective when you leave that room, so getting a good jump is incredibly difficult. Plus, even though I had better jumps that skipped more rings recorded, it ended up giving me the Cool bonus, so I had to go back.
This was delightful! Your commentary is always super clever. It's fast paced enough to keep me interested the whole time, yet not so fast that I can't keep up. You did a fantastic job on this challenge, and I can honestly say that I'm proud of the work you've done here. :)
Finally got around to watching these, mostly because, apropos of nothing, I decided to give this a try, though I decided to make use of tricks like super bouncing. Interesting little tip for Final Rush by the way, if you do a trick off of a rail and land on another rail, it doesn’t actually give you points for the trick, at least in my experience. Annoying when going for A ranks, but great for a minimalist run because you get some extra distance without gaining any unnecessary points. Also I’m salty because I can’t figure out the skip for the 300 points from the mandatory light dash in Crazy Gadget. I could never get it to work.
7:13 my uncle showed me the right way to this part when I was like 8 or 9 but I never figured it out but I remembered where the switch was and did this way exactly except I jump dash to hit the spring to go back instead of use the spin dash lol this is the first time I’ve seen someone else use this trick

If I remember correctly, you don't even need the spring or the bounce "glitch" when you first encounter the gravity switches. A simple bit of bouncing should be enough from what I recall, but I haven't played the game in a good minute so I can't verify right now.
I've actually had moments where jumping on the spring at the end of Green Forest _doesn't_ give me the Awesome bonus, which makes me wonder what you were doing differently to spawn it every single time, especially since I have no idea what actually triggers the bonus; it honestly seems like it's entirely up to chance.

I’d say the super bounce is valid to use in the run, considering it’s something pretty much any given player knows how to do, so it’s not really a hard speedrunning trick, more of a tech tbh.

I was doing the math and even with skipping some things you did I ended up with an 1800 total. I also added up what you did and I think it added to a lot more. I think it has to do with the light speed dash trail. I jumped out into space a little bit and then did the lsd, so depending on when the dash is activated the point total could become very inconsistent.

Just because it has frustrated me so much lately (until i completed it today, here’s a challenge whenever you feel like taking it: *How long can you endure Sonic Word’s 7th special stage for?!*
Garrulous64 i got the 5th on my first try, but.... from my experience, this special stage has all of the annoying elements of he previous ones, except 5 times worse! I need to check how you made it through so quickly....
If you do more of these I'd suggest you slow down your speech a bit, and provide a bit more visual context when you talk about tricky jumps, sometimes the area you're jumping from is only on the screen for a second and it can be difficult to tell exactly what part of the level you're in or on.
You should be able to spindash jump out into space to miss a ton of the rings in the big light dash. Also if you want a fun way to beat the end of crazy gadget, look up puzzle skip. All it is is a superbounce and its not difficult, fun for casual players imo
I've actually seen the puzzle skip thing and i recorded footage of it to show an example for this video, but during that recording I discovered the way I did it in the video and that didn't require a super bounce, so I went with that instead.
Garrulous64 yeah that makes sense i was just referring to when you said that you wanted to use that strat from now on when u play thru the game, since i think puzzle skip is a more fun option. These videos are super entertaining, do you plan on doing another character?
3:35 I don’t get why Eggman land has the reputation as the worst level in Sonic history. I think it should either go to Death Egg Zone in Sonic 2 (the original Sega Genesis version specifically) or The end of the world in Sonic 06. In Sonic the final boss is impossible if you don’t know where it’s safe to hit and it’s a cake walk once you do know where to hit it, you can’t take a single hit and if you get a game over you either need to cheat and use the level select code or play the ENTIRE GAME AGAIN. As for the end of the world you have to play as 7 characters who all control terribly deal with 7 loading screens (and its about 10-12 if you count the cutscenes) . Every set piece is reused from earlier in the game with even worse level design . If you play the PS3 version it lags a ton and unlike every other stage in Sonic you can’t grind lives beforehand meaning you only get 5 lives get a game over and your booted back to the title screen. Plus I find it fitting Eggmanland is so daunting Eggman has spent 10 years (in real life) hyping this place up so of course he won’t let you tear it down without resistance

At 4:17 you can do a spindash to the left and jump to get really high in the air whithout doing the super bounce and avoid the rings

The top door in the babymaker room in Crazy Gadget opens automatically if you reach it.
Ik that you said no glitches, but you can save over 1,500 points in crazy gadget by doing cgss
You can also save points( not as much) by doing cgs

Just because it has frustrated me so much lately (until i completed it today, here’s a challenge whenever you feel like taking it:
*How long can you endure Sonic Word’s 7th special stage for?!*

Garrulous64 i got the 5th on my first try, but.... from my experience, this special stage has all of the annoying elements of he previous ones, except 5 times worse! I need to check how you made it through so quickly....
I wonder if it’s possible to beat Sonic 4 with out using the homing attack because it’s technically essential to use
If you do more of these I'd suggest you slow down your speech a bit, and provide a bit more visual context when you talk about tricky jumps, sometimes the area you're jumping from is only on the screen for a second and it can be difficult to tell exactly what part of the level you're in or on.

You should be able to spindash jump out into space to miss a ton of the rings in the big light dash.
Also if you want a fun way to beat the end of crazy gadget, look up puzzle skip. All it is is a superbounce and its not difficult, fun for casual players imo
I've actually seen the puzzle skip thing and i recorded footage of it to show an example for this video, but during that recording I discovered the way I did it in the video and that didn't require a super bounce, so I went with that instead.
Garrulous64 yeah that makes sense i was just referring to when you said that you wanted to use that strat from now on when u play thru the game, since i think puzzle skip is a more fun option. These videos are super entertaining, do you plan on doing another character?

3:35 I don’t get why Eggman land has the reputation as the worst level in Sonic history. I think it should either go to Death Egg Zone in Sonic 2 (the original Sega Genesis version specifically) or The end of the world in Sonic 06. In Sonic the final boss is impossible if you don’t know where it’s safe to hit and it’s a cake walk once you do know where to hit it, you can’t take a single hit and if you get a game over you either need to cheat and use the level select code or play the ENTIRE GAME AGAIN. As for the end of the world you have to play as 7 characters who all control terribly deal with 7 loading screens (and its about 10-12 if you count the cutscenes) . Every set piece is reused from earlier in the game with even worse level design . If you play the PS3 version it lags a ton and unlike every other stage in Sonic you can’t grind lives beforehand meaning you only get 5 lives get a game over and your booted back to the title screen. Plus I find it fitting Eggmanland is so daunting Eggman has spent 10 years (in real life) hyping this place up so of course he won’t let you tear it down without resistance
I didn't say it was a bad level, I was referring to its length. My footage for Crazy Gadget was just about equal in time to my first ever Eggman Land run.
