    for ALL your RC Upgrades
Voltage Regulator replacement model for this upgrade is:
    Recom R-78E5.0-0.5
    or
    Recom R-78E5.0-1
If you have a GT3B you might know what it is Firmware flash-able and there are multiple mods or upgrades for it like bearings for the wheel, LiPo Battery and Polarizer flip. . I have done the LiPo and Polarizer but never got around to trying the Voltage Regulator upgrade.
After having to charge my Transmitter pack almost every second time I wanted to go out I decided it was time....
I cannot take credit for this upgrade but I made this video just to show you how.
Now this and the other mods were well Documented but the info seems to be slowly disappearing as I think the original authors stopped updating the information and its getting lost.
    Enjoy my peeps.

Quick tip for a guy or gal them or they with no skills with soldering please go to Home Depot and buy some soldering paste . It comes in a little white plastic Syringe so you can only squeeze out what you want and you don’t need much it also contains flux . Soldering with it is simple just apply a small dab on area then heat with match or soldering iron till it bubbles and pops then stop heating it let it cool and enjoy strong instant solder joints with 100 % less hassle

Awesome! I will go for TSR 0.5-2450 (input voltage at least 6.5V - you can take a normal 2S 7.4V LiPo...) because it's delivered from farnell and my electronics shop has a contract with them. It should work at least that good! I saw also the TR05S05 (min input voltage 7V!!), which should work too!

    • @TheLEDwheel

I have a few usb buck regulator boards laying around that will operate at 6v to 30v input. It seem like this would work better as a voltage regulator since they can provide at least 5w of power at a regulated 5v. They should operate at least 90% efficiency probably closer to 95%. It would also allow us to use 2S lipo. Could even be that the regulator shuts off below which would save an expensive lipo pack if the power was left on.

    • @TheLEDwheel
      @TheLEDwheel  Před 2 lety

The issue with this radio is that the input sensor is set for 8 "AA" batteries and cannot be adjusted. In other words 12v or 3S.

Hello , good idea. I think that we can use a "step down module" , it cost 1$ or less. The way is to solder 3 wires in the place of the 7805 regulator. These wires allow the step down module to be placed where there is enough space for it (in the battery compartment for example). On ebay , schearch about "step down".
Step down module do not works in linear mode , the efficiency will be better than using 7805.

Hobbywing instructions are kind of confusing, they say if you have a futaba do this, and if you have a radio with a led screen do this etc. on your fly sky gt3b I'm talking about! Thank-you

At 1:21 your caption says to use R-78E5.0-1.0. which is the 1 amp version of this switching module, why is this necessary over the 500ma version?
I dont understand because the stock lm7805 being replaced is only rated for 500ma anyway and according to what I've read elsewhere the flysky radio only draws 140ma with the stock regulator and 90ma with R-785.0-0.5

Steph, that looks like a great idea "on paper".... I'm curious, did you get the 50% more, or even close? It looks easy enough to do. I'm an old fart, like my handle (I'm at least 15 years older than you!). I got back into the Hobby after a long hiatus, since 1998. I originally started in 1985, shortly after Tamiya released the Frog!!!
Well, like life, R/C was a LOT easier back then. THREE Brands, two channels, and it seemed like everyone had a Futaba or Airtronics Radio! May have been other brands, but I never saw any. Buggies looking realistic, until Losi came out with his first flat pan car....... then soon after, everything started to look like Moon Buggies with grossly oversized tires! 😕
    But I REALLY digress!
Radios today are COMPLICATED, but do a lot. A friend recommended a Flysky GT2B. Good choice but pleasantly misnamed, because it has 3 channels!! Never had to Bind a radio before, but it was much easier than I was taught! I STILL can't figure out how to make the 3rd channel turn my lights on and off. 😰😠
Still, I'm looking into a GT3B. I like the multi vehicle storage, and the many fine tuning options looks great!
Only thing is - that one looks über confusing!!! I keep seeing videos about mods, upgrades, and HACKS. I'm used to a Radio that you turn on, and USE!
Like, you can hack the processor with a USB jumper, and flash it with firmware that will give you 6.... or EIGHT channels out of that 3-channel Radio!??!? HOW do you even control them? Leaves me with more questions than answers.
At least the trick you pointed out, is something that I know I can do. I'm good at hardwiring and soldering.
And once again, I've written too much! Being retired and disabled is boring! 😜 I've written you before here, I just started a new account, exclusively for R/C.

The GT2B is a much simpler radio system. As for the third channel to switch lights on and off you can view my video about turning an old servo into a LED controller or purchase yourself a servo switch.
The GT3B and GT3C have the same display and menu system in a different package but the GT3C comes with a Lipo but I do not know if it better on power consumption.
I still have 2 GT3B's but now I get the Radiolink sets. They are great on power and are even very versatile as to what you can power them with. it comes with a 4xAA battery retainer but it can be removed and powered by up to 3S. the receiver is also high voltage and can be powered directly from a 7.4 LiPo.
This one here even has a built in Gyro

Its a must because it will prolong the life of any battery used regardless of capacity. Alkaline batteries aside, rechargeable batteries have a certain lifespan or number of usuable charges. Reducing the need to charge as often is still good for the wallet and environment.

@@TheLEDwheel Ive owned a GT3b for about 10 years now and 2 out of the 3 lipos I use in it are lipos I bought 10 years ago when I converted it to lipo. So you'll have to excuse me if I disagree. Again not saying its not a good idea but definitely not a "must"
