Yo, the king in yellow is about eternal recurrence… Ambrose Bierce… he’s the guy that inspired lovecraft… all his work came after surviving front line combat in the civil war. This dude saw into other dimensions with his ptsd.
Wow interesting!
sounds gay
Twas Robert W. Chambers who wrote the King in Yellow?
How fitting

You making one of the most depressing and emotion-envoking game in my life into a hour long summary with occasional bits of funny actually made it easier for me to cope with how this game deconstructed my soul, thank you.
C'mon it's not so bad. Never watched existential horror like Neon Genesis lol. It's an awesome game tho
A bit extreme but glad you found some enjoyment in it
Wow im 14 in this is deep 🤣🤣🤣🤣jk
People when you emotionally connect to something: c'mon it's not that deep, I mean a bit extreme y'know.
People when a loved one dies: what do you mean it's not that deep?!

The character names and the signs and messages seen on buttons and screens and machines and their UI around the levels are in German. "Storch" is the German word for stork, "Eule" is German for owl, "Adler" means eagle, "Falke" means falcon, "Kolibri" means hummingbird, "Elster" means magpie, "Star" means starling, . The names "Beo" and "Mynah" are the German names for the common hill myna bird.
The message on the door requiring the key cards to be opened, for example, says "Sonderzugang", which means 'special access'. The two paintings seen at 16:50 in the room in which Adler confronts Isa are "Die Toteninsel" (The Isle of the Dead) by the Swiss painter of the Duesseldorf School Arnold Boecklin and "Gestade der Vergessenheit" (The Shore of Oblivion) by the German painter Eugen Bracht. The view of the mountains seen at 24:59 is also taken from the latter painting, and both paintings are then also shown in the rapid sequence at 29:52. The image seen on the ship at 30:01 looks a lot like the flag of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). The postcard (?) shown at 30:45 says "Raumfahrzeug Typ "Penrose" ", which means 'Spacecraft type "Penrose" ', and the watermark saying "Volksmarine" was the name of the naval force of the German Democratic Republic from 1960-1990. The title at the top of the postcard reading "Operation Penrose; Stolz der Nation Eulan" translates to 'Operation Penrose; Pride of the nation of Eusan'. "Rotfront" refers to the "Roter Frontkaempferbund" (Alliance of Red Front-Fighters), a paramilitary organisation of the German Communist Party during the Weimar Republic.
The name "Gestalt" given to some of the humans is a German word that the English language also borrows and translates to 'shape' or 'figure' or 'form'.
The big message in red that appears on the screen saying "Stirb" means 'die' in German, and "Warum bist du hier?" means 'Why are you here?', and "Achtung" means 'attention'. The piano music that played in the room was the "Mondscheinsonate" (Moonlight sonata) by Beethoven, and the title on the broken music cassatte reading "Eulenlieder" means 'Owl songs' or 'Owls' songs'.
Sierpinski was also the name of Polish mathematician Waclaw Sierpinski, after whom the fractal (a complex geometric shape) of the "Sierpinski triangle" is named, that very much resembles the symbol/logo consisting of triangles seen throughout the game. The symbol in the centre of the key card door could also be a Sierpinski carpet, another fractal named after him. Penrose was the name of another mathematician, the British mathematician and physicist Sir Roger Penrose.

These r actually great references, I never understood the German references and flashes of text. Glad to finally know what STIRB means!! :DD
Thanks for the into! Hella interesting to know what they were and what they represent
2 Dark Tark videos in 1 week? This truly is a Christmas miracle.
whats the sound effect at 32:21 btw i need to know in order to use it

Persona 4 Who's There . The whole soundtrack is memeatic as hell.
I'm so glad that I've beaten this amazing game before this vid came out so that I can watch it right now without fearing any spoilers
Red TVs ORL BOYZ REJOICE
This tongue tied me 😂
You strike an amazing balance between comedy and an actual review. Narration and delivery is on point. Keep up the great content tark ily
I agree. A great, subdued, on the nose presentation. Very dry yet funny and easily digestible.
I'm a new fan I think
He's what I wish Max0r was...
Elster grindset: don’t care, love wife
Yoooo I'm glad to see you found Signalis. Was hoping to see a CZcamsr I watch play it. Guess you're the dude

3:20 the warhammer 40k reference of orks thinking that painting things in red makes them go faster, and that it actually works and it is canon in the lore of the warhammer 40k
The last bossfight partially works like the Pyramid Head fights in Silent Hill 2, it's on a timer. In each phase, even if you run out of ammo, just dodge damage and Falke will eventually collapse by herself and give you an opening to spear her.
I believe last phase doesnt work like that tho, i ran out of ammo just as she was in last phase
Thanks to that mechanic I beat her on the first try. I unloaded everything unto her and before spearing her the last time I ran out of ammo and thought I fucked up. Was in critical condition, too. Then she kneeled down again and I speared her and won lol, real adrenaline pumping moment before the chilly and haunting ending (where Elster strangled some bish)
NGL I kinda guessed you like Silent Hill, but damm 56 min video on some indie survival horror after year of making Elden Ring videos feels like the most Dark Tark thing ever.
tbh it is not just some generic indie survival horror game#28 ,
this game basically perfected the gameplay loop of old school classic survival horror genre. an absolute gem
@@btchiaintkidding7837 Im big fan of Survival Horror games but I never heard about this one . Gonna definetly check this one out. Do you have any recommendations ?
@@XXXXD Did you try SIGNALIS?
This guy became my favourite youtuber in only a couple videos, I love it
"Adlers dedicated hate crime pit" actually made me laugh out loud.
you got yourself a new subscriber, hope you're other videos are as funny as this one.
I know many people did bloodborne's lore but I'd like to watch your take on it especially with your style and to know what "it's canon, it's in the lore" and what's not.
This 💯
Bloodborne has THE most amazing world building and lore in any game I’ve ever played. It quickly became my favorite game because of that… and the amazingly aggressive gameplay.
(3:08) my favorite moment in resident evil: signalis was when the main character said "I guess, we were the residents of evil all along". And evil'ed all over the place! Truly one of the movies by DarkTark.
btw, you don't need to wait for the frequency to flash onto the screen to kill the kolibri's. you can adjust your receiver to follow along with the kolibri's frequency, and it'll kill them pretty quickly.
you can also just shoot the one with the box around them. they are not immune to death :]
This reminds me of the manga "Blame". I am almost certain it was one of the inspirations for this game.
Itd be beyond sick if the devs actually did just make a Blame! game.
I don't see any similarities to Blame! here
@@Hades1100 The character design, the central element of a barely known uncontrolled force shapeshifting the whole of reality around it, a lonely robotic protagonist looking for an elusive goal, a partnership severed, the overarching theme of needing to stop a cycle that got out of hand, it all feels so familiar y'know, it might not be as on the nose as other games such as NaissanceE or Manifold Garden, but it's *there*
@@Hades1100 I mean, the false "protagonist dies in a pretty much random event" ending reminded me of when [spoilers] Killy gets shot and drowns in a river
@@Hades1100 you just decided not to see the similarities or you don't really know Blame! Lol
Oh man, this dropped right as I’m in the middle of my own playthrough. Something to look forward to once I’m done with the game!
Edit: Two days later, I beat it. I kept the promise…
As Im crawling across youtube looking for every bit of content about this game after finishing it last night, I think Im starting to piece together my theory. Spoilers below:
I think everything happened as said in this video: Ariane's life, inspiration from the picture, military service, placement on the ship, and eventual sickness and crash. What I think happened is the ship crashed on a distant planet, which turned out to be habitable, or at least full of mining resources. Later, her country came and built the Sierpenski mining base on top of it, leaving her undisturbed to sleep underneath. Im thinking maybe because of her bioresonent sleep they either couldnt interupt her or didnt want to for fear of her causing bioresonant cataclysm. However, they were able to recover the Elster unit that went with her. Since they lost the original Gestalt neural patterns for the Elster units, they based future Elster units off the recovered Elster who accompanied Ariane. This is the Elster we play as at the very beginning of the game. All future Elsters are copied off her (as seen by the piles of dead Elsters where Adler pushes her down). This is why she always starts with the photograph and hears music, because she needs to recover her memories to remember her promise to Ariane. I think at least hundreds of years pass here, between original establishment of the colonization of the planet they crashed on and the events of the game starting at Sierpenski (right after we pick up the King in Yellow for the first time). Hundreds, maybe thousanes of Elsters make their way through the loop It might even be a very very long time, enough time for even those keeping the secret of Ariane's slumber underneath to forget, and myths to be created about her, as the god that sleeps underground (mentioned in several diaries).
The ship containing Ariane, then, is the thing found at the bottom of the base that Falke stumbles into and becomes infected by Ariane's powers. I think this either disturbs Ariane's sleep, causing her to have nightmares where she was in a deep sleep before, or fully wakes her up. Either way, her pain and sickness starts spreading beginning with Falke. I like Dark's theory here that all the kfc flesh is reflecting the tumors from her cancer.
The point of this theory is that Ariane is the lovecraftian entity of this story.
Sadly, I don't have much after this point. It makes sense that Elster keeps repeating her experiences to try and get to Ariane, but I can't piece together why and how there is a time loop to begin with, other than "ooo bioresonant nightmates", which isn't very satisfying an answer to me (although it would be a very lovecraftian answer). I also am not very familiar with the King in Yellow , and I think that book has something more to do with the story than just being an allegory or representation of banned knowledge. Maybe it inspired Ariane's nightmares?I love theorizing about this game though, so I will keep thinking.
Recurrence, events repeating and so on, is a major theme/component of The King In Yellow, so that may contribute to some extent, at least in terms of references.
The issue is that Ariane was not only born on the planet we play the game as, but also was possibly going to be sent their already in her story before being sent on the Penrose program. It is more likely the Penrose ship crashed back on the planet Leng after the reactor broke down in space and was pulled back by gravity. The story deliberately has a lot of different possible theories for how things came to be, I think representing the corrupting of reality as Adler says. No theory I have seen will ever be able to fit to all the facts present by design, you are going to have pick and choose what line of thinking you want to follow and what information to discard.
This is a true Signalis moment
The safety net is actually really normal for that kind of soviet-bloc-type building.
When I finished this game I got promise ending, then I went to sleep, but instead I had my eyes open and I have been staring at a ceiling for some time. When sleep finally took hold of me I was back in this game in its story. I was trully scared and emotionally depleted after finishing this game, I was almost crying at the end.
I have no idea what I have clicked on. Last time that happened I saw a homeless man destroy a mansion to punish the owner for his bad taste in art
I totally thought the game was finished after the death cutscene with Elster's arm ripping off, my mind was blown when your vid continued.
O damn, I'm in the middle of playing signalis. Nice timing.
Edit:
I just beat the game and now I am emotionally distraught.
my dude, I am so ecstatic that you have posted this. I was watching some other channel cover this game, and I just opened your video when I saw it but I cannot state enough what a pleasant surprise it is that you have chosen this game. Cheers and please keep on going with whatever it is you have going on with your channel because it is so refreshing/hilarious compared to other content (IMO).
I'm so glad I stumbled on your channel, you are one of my channels to watch
i had never heard of this game until this video. ive since played it, and its now one of my favourite games! thanks for not only making excellent videos, but also making more awareness of this amazing game! i hope it gets more attention!
I hope you get to 100k subs before the end of the year your videos are hilarious.
Your new videos are the best christmas gift!
You did such a good job explaining the story!
In all honesty thank you for covering Signalis it definitely needs more recognition
the red STIRB thats sometimes flashes on screen means “die” in german. the game seems to be german. there are multiple sentences like “give up” and other words
Its made in germany
I really felt like Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass wasn't bleak and depressing enough, so I'm glad someone has reimagined it as taking place in a oppressive, hopeless future dystopia.
Ah, that hits the spot.
13:20 loved the mgs detected sound lol ❗
This game absolutely exudes Nier inspirations as well as silent hill. Gestalts and Replica’s being the most obvious but there’s tons more.
You are a really underatted content creator. Great video!
20:00 "if you crank dat soulja boy" made me subscribe to you lol idk why
3:22 I did not expect a Warhammer40k "Red goes faster" joke
I think that was a joke before Warhammer.
When Insubscribed to this channel a Signalis review had to be in the top 5 things I wasnt expecting.
The most scariest moment in signalis is the inventories… goddamn that makes me laugh so hard… that 6 slot really nightmare…
Of all the 5 or 6 Signalis CZcams reviews that really dive deep, this is definitely one of them.
I enjoyed the humor a lot. Cool interpretation of the story, about what I had in mind but you added quite a few more concrete details that made me go "oh that fits so well".
I understand how the inventory limit can be annoying, but I thought it was great to have such tight limitation, it forced me to make some hard choices, like going without a flashlight often, or just carrying the ammo I had in my gun. Having the flashlight be a default thing would be cool too, tho.
I got the Promise ending, took over 10 hours to finish, and frankly, Elden Ring is probably the only game this year I have ahead of Signalis for my personal GOTY, and not by much. This is a total gem, and an instant cult classic.
Amazing video! Keep up the awesome work!
Wonderful video I loved the long form content. I started watching you becuase of elden ring but I'm sticking around because I love the style of videos you make. I really liked how you made jokes and took the game semi lighthearted throughout the video but then did a wrap up at the with your thoughts and ideas about the deeper LORE. Great work! keep at it cant wait for another video
Cool video loved it❤️✨
Great video, came here after I beat the game. You should know that they just released an update that makes the flashlight and camera eye no longer take up an inventory slot.
Great vid keep up the great work. Crazy that you can go from basically elden ring shitposts to really good game reviews. 10/10
Yoo more recognition for signalis
You’ve also missed that falke’s sprite in the ending is slighly altered face of arianne. I don’t really sure what it implies
Awesome video mate. Keep on uploading good vids.
These videos are amazing, you're a legend
The heck, Tony? You're here, too!
This dude should have way more subs. He's hilarious as fuck.
idk who you are and this is my first viewing of your channel and your commentary is top shelf haha. instantly subscribed.
This is truly the scary game of all time
Just awesome, great videos 👍
Your commentary is awesome
I dunno where you came from, BUT thank you sooooo much for this recommendation, watched 3 minutes of your video, and went to steam. And I just played the game for almost 10 hours, fockin loving it!, still haven't finished, no spoilers pls!
Edit: About the inventory, you don't always need a weapon nor ammo, I explain myself, if you want to clear a path, do so, use the weapon and ammo, then store it back. And explore etc. (this is meant for the ppl playing the game, I assume Dark Tark is fooling around :p).
This was a really interesting run through. Love your story telling
awesome, dark Tark making video on my personal game of the year. a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one - know what I’m watching with Breakfast!
I love when you make niche game videos. I think I just love you in general
I love your style of videos.
I went a bought this after the first day this video dropped, and I really enjoyed this RE/SH spirited game. It was a fun storyline to piece together, thanks for putting this game out there
Did bro just say that Elden Rings story is straight forward?
This video really filled a Silent Hill 2 reference in my heart.
listening to the entire serious signalis story section followed up with hearing that the scariest part of the game is the inventory....that got me good
14:15 I'm guessing by this complaint that you didnt use the in game camera eye? Thing was designed to help prevent this.
Another brilliant video
I just found your channel, I like you. I like that you play these horror games too! I enjoy them so much, just as I enjoyed silent hill games.
I sub and like, you rock.
The king in whAt- oh nO. *panics in lovecraft lore*
The king in yellow wasn't written by Lovecraft, he was inspired by it
Glad some made a video on this game
I have no idea how you do it but you sound so knowledgeable in everything yet also sound like you have no idea what you are even talking about at the same time. I love your videos man, you are easily my favorite channel. you're so underrated
Now I know the basic gist of the story. I was so confused at first about the plot, but now I understand it.
Wow I didn't expect a legit analysis at the end
i put signalis right next to the greatest classics like Silent hill. wow. just wow, incredible game
Babe, wake up. New favourite Aussie CZcamsr just dropped an hour long video
Great video :)
Love the King in Yellow stuff. King in Yellow lore over time also added that he has an own realm where certain people who are "insane enough" can shape parts of the reality of that realm by thought, so I feel like that might be a connection/inspiration to the bioresonant people here.
Its really nice to see dark tark expand his content from elden ring like this video and the hotline mia...... Silent hill 2 video☺️👍👍👍
Isn't the king in yellow supposed to make the people who read it go insane?
Yes
Bro the recoil bit is hilarious💀
Props to this guy almost felt like I was watching An Incorrect Summary which made me laugh a quite a bit.
Great video
I got pissed off because I thought the game was called signals
It's games that leave you wanting more but knowing you'll never get it that are truly the best type of games.
Tark your a legend by the way 😊
The game which have obscure radio frequency twerking as a gameplay mechanic.Very nice
Signalis deserves the attention
I was about to start signalis, perfect timing.
Good shit bro
bro went from making SMT memes to doing video essays about SIGNALIS just like me fr
I never my favourite funny man would cover my fav horror game of the year
Another banger from tark
The game is simple.
The red desert cutscene explains it.
L.S.T.R is simply Diavolo from JoJo's bizarre adventure part five vento aureo, 'golden wind'.
Bro I’m literally playing this game righ. Lemme finish this tonight
You can use the electronic eye tool thingy to take pictures of puzzle solutions to prevent all the going back and forth shenanigans
The most unsettling thing in the video is the subtle minecraft soundtrack in the background.
I think the keycard foreshadowing jokes were what rocked me the hardest - I laughed so hard I howled.
Narrator of the year.
I for one welcome this age of Dark Tark Survival Horror lore.
love the video
SIGNALIS became one of my favorite games of all time just after one playthrough. The gameplay, story, music and art direction are excellent.
Also "promise" ending made me cry like a bitch.
