    BUILDING A HOUSE IN THAILAND
    Its that time again to give you another thai build update on the progress. Things remain on the up & Toon & I are happy with how things are going.
    We would like to thank all you viewers & subscribers who have given us building advice & words of motivation when the build wasnt going quite so well.
    Leigh & Toon - Rural life Thailand
    CZcams channel started April 2017.
    We live in a small village located in Kamphaeng Phet. It is far away from city life & we share it with our beloved dogs, chickens, ducks & thousands of fish.
    We are in the process of building our dream Thailand homestead with fishing park & working farm on our remote nearby land. It's not posh & we're on a fairly strict budget, but we love it.
    We lead a busy thai lifestyle, which is immense fun & very fulfilling.
    Our days are filled with wild fishing, preparing them (food & selling), farming & building.
    We are lucky enough to be able to spend time exploring Kamphaeng Phet & messing about like big kids going wild swimming!
    We hope you enjoy watching our lighthearted Thai vlog adventures.
    We place huge importance on viewers comments & attempt to reply to all who have taken the time to post.

    Please excuse my in-video currency converter (my brain!)
    It was well off . . . I will be sticking to baht figures only in the future if I dont have a calculator near by!

    • @harryinhuahin1272
      @harryinhuahin1272 Před 7 lety +1

      I think Baht figures are best because the exchange rates will alter more over the years than the price of materials... and future viewers can do their own conversions - into their own currencies...

    • @TLFarm
      @TLFarm  Před 7 lety +1

      Definitely . . . & that is without my dodgy "on the fly" international conversion rate!

    That was a very intelligent statement on the real cost of living in Thailand. When you get right down to the truth of the matter, it's however much you are willing, or able to spend, just like anywhere else. I do enjoy the vlogs. I don't know that I could adjust to country living, but as long as you're happy, that's all that matters. You two are pretty funny by the way. Keep them coming if you don't mind.

      Yes village/ rural living isn't everyone's cup of tea for sure. Toon & I have lived in more built areas previously, but the pull of living on the land was just too great to resist.

      I agree - I always smile at these people who ask: Can I live in Thailand for 500 $US / month... or whatever... Define 'live'...
      Of course you can... but would you want to...? If you do, then just give it a try.
      I always tell people to let me know their lifestyle in the West, and I'll give you a rough idea what that will cost in Thailand - Central Bangkok or rural Roi Et...

    Is that just labour or materials included? I like the off set glass blocks on front entrance, makes it unique.
    I was going to ask you what is the finish, but you said in video it will be cement rendered.

    Don't worry, you'll always get some wall cracks using breeze blocks but it won't fall down in your lifetime Leigh. Top tip from me. Make a plan and take photos of anything such as plumbing and electrics that are underground or chased into a wall for reference. Fit numerous water cocks in strategic locations in case of burst pipes/leaks. Use plumbing fittings and connectors with brass threads rather than plastic. Don't buy any chrome fittings, they will rust, believe me. Stainless steel is good but expensive. Just go for plastic in the bog n wash room using stainless screws and talking about the bog, make sure they fit the seal correctly or you will regret it. Chok dee mate and get a grip of that quivering bottom lip yer great big Jessie lol.

    I would be proud to own such a place. You have achieved a minor miracle my friend on the budget you have. You should give yourselves a pat on the back.

    Start building the perimeter fence. For security reason.. It looks like you dont have any neighbors. In the Philppines, perimeter fence is part of the building because we do not know if a would be criminal... addict or drunkst or what not comes barging into your house. Your neighbor is quite far. Include safety features of your house. Protection against crime. You can never tell given your area. You and I are farang it pays to be safe. We are new in the area. Have a perimeter built.

    What 35,000 for rendering, oops that's high.
    About right actually from builder.
    I strode into luck, have a couple of guys work for 500 a day good renderers add sand 440 a cu cement 115 a bag.
    Plus I am not bad with a rendering trowel myself.
    Looks good.
    Plus obviously watch you farming updates, so have seen it finished.

    It’s been a good year now ... Any regrets or wish you’d done anything different?

    • @TLFarm
      @TLFarm  Před 6 lety +2

      A few things we would do differently. Only real regret was not getting someone else in to do the tiling. We used a friend instead of trusting our gut feeling but hey ho.
      We've made numerous cock-ups in this first year but we're getting to grips with it all now. It's a real challenge because of the diversity we have chosen to live with but I tell you what . . . It feels amazing & boredom is not possible.
      Cheers Leigh and Toon.

    I'm a bricky and that blockwork is dodgy to say the leased, Thai don't seem to have any conception of bonding, everything where possible should be half bond on the blockwork, there's straight joints everywhere, only the render will be holding it up.

    • @TLFarm
      @TLFarm  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Andy - most Thais do know about half-bond, they just choose not to always do it if left to their own devices . . . WAAP - Wing And A Prayer!
      Thanks for taking the time to post us your comment.

      Leigh & Toon Rural life Thailand no probs mate, I'm not a hater, just like to see the job done right,, keep a eye on them , at least theve put some sort of concrete lintels over the openings, some just build on top of the frames.nice size house though, chock Dee...

      Thanks for that Andy - Toon & I always read & take on board what our viewers have to say. We have picked up loads of advice in our first 4 months of CZcams. Some has been utter pants, but mostly very helpful 555!
      Its been a huge shame for us . . . we always hoped that Toons father would be around long enough to oversee the builders & keep them in check . . . sadly it wasnt to be, but will get there.
      Cheers Leigh.

    I , but am trying to watch your videos on a daily basis but I cannot seem to find when your last video was done. I saw an August date of the 7th, and cannot seem to find anything after that. It would maybe help if you would date your videos, and thank you.

    • @TLFarm
      @TLFarm  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi GMZ - this should help:
      Select the Video tab on our channel page to see the full listings & view them as - Date added (newest first).
      If you still think you may have missed an upload select the Playlist tab & view it - Date created (newest).
      As of today (24/08/2017) we have a total of 58 videos uploaded & published. All are set to Public viewing & are placed in one or more Playlist.
      Please note we do not upload videos on a daily basis. Usually 2/3 per
      week depending on if I am working away. When I am back in the village
      you may see videos published more often but there are of a shorter
      duration & lower resolution because our internet upload speed is so
      slow.
      Hope this helps, cheers Leigh.

    If you build the hen house and lay even one block that is considered working equals a very large fine or even jail in Thailand. Belive me some one will report you to the Police. You could never get a work permit for that type of work as if a Thai is capable of doing the job then you can't have a work permit. A mistake you have already done is broadcast that your going to work even that it's for your self and your not been paid it's against the law. I would keep your thoughts to your self and remove that bit of your video where you state your going to lay blocks. Also noticed the block work on front of your house is not keyed in making it a weak structure they do that a lot in Thailand not keying in brick work. Also if your working on your farm that is also against the law so be very careful indeed. My friend was caught lifting a crate of milk off a pick up truck into his restaurant Police caught him and he got 10,000 Baht fine. He was later reported to be working cooking in his own restaurant Police raided his business caught him cooking and he received a 3 year jail sentance. Be better to pay a Thai to finish your chicken coop and avoid a visit from the corrupt Thai Police. I'm enjoying your blogs but please think before you speak Sir.
