My guess is that comment about putting on makeup and calling people is meant to convey that any time she sits down to put on makeup, she also uses the time to talk to someone on the phone.
@@edithhuelskamp1649 This is it exactly. They're saying whenever she has a moment where her hands are busy but her mind is free, she uses the time to talk to people.

As a woman and makeup wearer I can say confidently I know what that sentence means, apologies if a million people have said this already! They're meaning to say - "she talks to the people she loves regularly. A study needs to be done on rich peoples brain on how they think they could compare to normal people
I think there have been some studies done-- apparently the effect of being wealthy is that one rationalizes why they should have it, and they tend to view themselves as more hard working or resourceful, even if it's demonstrably true that the playing field has always been uneven.
^^ echoing the above and I also remember reading somewhere that studies have shown that the wealthiest people often have personality traits that are most associated with narcissistic personality disorders. Lack of empathy mainly. Go figure.
In "The Gamesmen: The New Coperate Leaders" by Micheal Maccoby, he analyses 250 Managers. It's quite old though, I only know about it because Erich Fromm Quotes it extensively in "To have or to be" . There are probably newer studies also
Just to add on something probably not that on-topic, I've heard of a study where they did eye-tracking for average and wealthy people walking down the street. The wealthy mainly/only looked at other people that came across as wealthy, whereas average people's interest was piqued by all kinds of people, average and wealthy-looking alike. IIRC, the conclusion/theory was that wealthy people do not have much interest in average/poor people, and that somehow comes from a mentality of them being separate, a different species almost, beneath them and therefore not worth considering. Not sure how they came to that conclusion from just that, and I might remember some details wrong, but thought I'd share, it's interesting.

Yeah, there is a word for it too-gentrification.
As far as we know, fashion history has followed this trend for a long time. Poor people, who have limited resources and money for self expression, tweak what they have to look new and different. This is viewed as stylish and often has counter-cultural values to the standards and taboos of the time. 32:16 I don’t think there is any excuse for cheating. There is no such thing as ‘heat of the moment’, humans are not animals and we have self control and most of us have enough self respect not to act like dogs in heat.
It’s disgusting, and I don’t understand how a girl can do that to another girl, the minute I hear that a guy has a girlfriend he doesn’t look attractive in my eyes, he’s just a friend. And i’m not the only one that thinks like this, so do my friends, because we would never want to be cheated on so we wouldn’t do that to someone else. I’m just glad that I don’t know anyone like that in my personal life.
its always morally okay to steal anything from the 1% 🥰
amen to that
And does that includes lives?
nope. always try to be better (even if no one rewards you)
@@max_tree billionaires exist off of the exploitation of the working class, they get away with illegal activities, and in a country with over 100 million people in poverty, they simply shouldn't exist. IT. IS. ALWAY. MORALLY. OKAY.

One thing I’ll give Jeff kudos for is that he is marrying someone his age. That’s rare with billionaires.
That’s true! Kinda sad that we’re pleasantly surprised tho lol
Don't worry, his next wife will be 25.
on some real shit, they probably have a small army of personal people nanny-ing their kids, cooking their meals, chauffeuring their family around, tutoring their kids through school until they graduate from an Ivy league school. It's tough not to be skeptical
I remember watching a video on Patagonia by Adam Conover in 2022 due to the positive media coverage re: the donation. As you mentioned earlier in this video "theres no such thing as a good billionaire". Id love to see you explore further and hear your take on it.
It’s so interesting how the unfathomably wealthy in society, genuinely believe that they DESERVE to be that rich. Like if I won the mega millions jackpot today and suddenly had billions at my disposal, my first thought wouldn’t be to build a 10,000 year clock or space ships or all the other self serving, ego statues that billionaires create. It’s bizarre how they look at all the power in their hands, the power to make positive meaningful differences in the world and just say “nah”.
Exactly this. It blows my mind that they could give away like 99% of their wealth to charities, pay their employees fairly and just do good things for the world in general and still be better off financially than like everyone else but they don't and won't.
What's sad is one doesn't even have to be extremely wealthy, even people with $2 million in the bank think the same or WORSE
Because you don’t become a billionaire by doing anything good, positive or moral. That level of wealth hoarding comes of the exploitation, destruction and death of many many others. It may be interesting to some this power and choice dichotomy but it’s the least surprising thing in the world.
- I’m actually pleasantly surprised that Bezos is marrying someone who’s 53, rather than 23.
- Let’s all be honest with ourselves. Lauren is after that divorce settlement. 💰
- D’Angelo, PLEASE make an hour long video about the Bezos laugh.
- It’s not really that impressive to be jacked or in good shape when you can literally afford endless physical trainers, dietitians, and home gyms.
- Okay, D’Angelo, I THINK what Bezos meant is that Lauren is always keeping in touch with people, even while she’s doing her makeup? 🤷🏾♂️ Very awkward wording.
I had the same thought about their ages, happy to see that at least. And that she is accomplished in her own right. But aside from that, they’re both clueless and awful.
The dude doesn't have to cook his own food! It's so easy to lose or gain weight when you can afford to sell off 90% of the effort needed. All they have to do is make the choice on the menus, and they probably don't even do that. It's wild to me
I mean after McKenzie took him to the cleaners, he’s probably got that prenup ironclad.
@@DittoAPokemon Yeah, most likely.
I doubt he has a prenup with her. Besides, prenups only protect against specific assets and won’t hold up in court if a spouse requires alimony etc. Something tells me she’s manipulative and he’s incredibly stupidly in lust with her, he can’t see it. She will be another ex-wife only more disastrous.
14:45 D'angelo getting confused by the makeup thing was so funny to me. Bezos meant she talks to people on the phone while she puts on her makeup.
She’s sooooo family oriented, guys. That’s why she cheated on her husband!
Let me preface this by saying i am a HUGE patagonia fan BUT there's a couple videos that point out that Chouinard only "gave his company away" to ensure that its profits could be taxed less and that his children wont be "burdened" with inheritance tax issues when he dies. Also turning it into "technically" a charity allows them to donate huge sums of money to politicians without it being taxed and with little to no oversight. Adam conover has a pretty good video on this fake altruism :)
Yeah, that news was a nice positive for about 4 hours before I found out that there's no such thing as a benevolent rich person.
They're all self serving to the max
yesss came to comments to say this
came to say this too, thank you
THIS
The Patagonia dude didn't give away his company. He switched control of it to a non-profit organization run completely by his kids. It's a 100% tax scam.
i wish i had also never heard jeff bezos laugh
Giving so much money away, but not to workers LOL
I've said it before and I'll say it again - Jeff Bezos laughs like a person who knows that people *do* laugh but actually has always secretly hated that literally anyone ever would
I've never heard such a comically evil villain laugh like that, and the fact that the smile doesn't quite reach his eyes says everything I feel we already knew about him
There's no soul behind that laugh and it's actually pretty eerie
His love letter to her when cheating sealed the villain arc for me. “Alive girl”!?

Lmao I’m from West Texas and I was shocked to see that Bezos has a ranch here. So I was like oh how far away is said ranch - 248 MILES. Wtf. Texas is huge
They could help so many people with all that money. They could fund disease research, home families, and feed the hungry. D’Angelo has a beautiful gift of calling out people who pretend to be what they are not. I am thankful.
Let's also not forget the environmental footprint of all those yachts, flights, and luxury goods.
Seriously. I always wonder how much this country would be changed if people like them created safe, accessible public transportation. It could be so life changing
@@fanoftoast Saddest part is that if they theoretically _did_ donate a ton of money to help people, so much of the world would change for the better, and their wallets _would hardly be touched._ The dent in their banks would be unnoticable. But they do nothing anyway.
Jeff Bezos could fund housing for every homeless person in America and still have enough money to buy 300,000 more yachts.
is it bad that I’m so used to rich people dating way younger people that I was relieved when Sanchez was only 6 years younger?

13:52 "She keeps in touch with people. I've never seen her put makeup on without calling somebody. Usually her sister." - What I believe this is supposed to convey is an example of how well she keeps in touch with people, so much so that she uses even the time of putting her makeup on as an opportunity to catch up with people over the phone
you bet your ass that Ao3 story is written with more integrity than any article ever published in vogue combined
and explanation for the make-up sentence: she uses every possibility to stay in touch with others. so whenever she does her make up, she always also talks to people at the same time (usually her sister)
Saying she doesn't put make up on without calling somebody, I think relates back to her "being a good role model" and "always keeping in touch with people". Calling her sister, her friends, etc.
It is a semi common thing to call someone when doing make up, since it can be a boring process 😅
yeahh thats what I understood too, everytime she's about to put on makeup she's going to call someone to talk to during the process
this is how i took it too! like the intention is saying she’s always trying to find more time to keep contact with people
Keeping in touch makes you a good role model? You sound very dumb 🥲
Thank you for the explanation I was so confused as well
@@khrystal718not what I would say personally, but that is how it was framed in the article!
I saw a tiktok on how much a starbucks to an average person would cost a billionaire and yeah... none of these guys are donating near what normal people donate in an average year.
14:53 DUDE he’s saying that she’s so social she doesn’t sit down to do her makeup without calling her sister so that she has someone to talk to
The Patagonia donation isn't entirely what it seems by the way. The donation went to the Holdfast Collective, an organization created and owned... by his own family. Adam Conover has a video about this.
You said that so perfectly. Rich folks are cosplaying the lives of the working poor. It is the real lives of many, and it is not a costume that we can take off.
Hey I'm glad you're still around and sharing your voice. Thanks!
so for the line about the makeup and her sister (14:46), I think Jeff was just praising her ability to "keep in touch with people" and used the makeup thing as an example of that. like, look how my wife takes the time to call her sister during this typically solo task! she's so devoted!!
I only do photography as a hobby, and even I can tell that a bunch of the pictures of her weren’t taken by a particularly skilled photographer. Horizon lines, depth of field, framing, contrast, they did nearly everything wrong, so it feels like she’s either a part of the background, or a model for the clothes she’s wearing.
The shocking thing is that Annie Leibowitz took the pictures! It's almost like she took bad pics on purpose for spite 😂
The images were taken by Annie Leibovitz - she knows exactly what she’s doing. All meticulously intentional. Make of that as you will
the author's note on the jeff fanfic made me cry of laughter
Right??? I thought why this “article” sounds like Bezos fanfiction 😭
That line about the makeup, Jeff is just saying that she's a chatty person and that she (probably) calls people while she puts her makeup on/gets ready for the day.
His point being that she I guess utilizes her time to "stay in touch" with people
"She's also just a very good role model. She keeps in touch with People. I've never seen her put makeup on without calling somebody. Usually her sister." Sounds to me a lot like "Look how nice she is. She even puts on make up before calling someone so they don't have to suffer from her natural face. Even for her sister who she wouldn't need to do it for!"
"I've never seen her put makeup on without calling someone" means that while she's getting ready and doing her makeup she's on the phone talking to someone. the wording tripped me up too lol
I love how in all their "We're so normal, we do totally normal things" spiel, one thing is conspicuously absent - working.
im someone who "cheated" when in an unsafe, one-sided "relationship" - a decision which ultimately kept me alive. just wanted to say i appreciate you taking the time to address that nuance ❤
