    To stick with the game's fighting type restriction, I think there are a few really fun options possible. Seeing Conkeldurr as a midrange monster with huge damage could be really cool, or having Breloom as a dhalsim-like. You could even do a Sawk/Throh duo fighter. However, my personal pick would probably be Tyrogue, where it can evolve mid-round into one of Hitmonlee, HItmontop, or Hitmonchan depending on what moves the player uses, changing their playstyles as a result.
    As for non-fighting types, there are a ton of cool options. I'd love to see Skarmory, Tyranitar, Hydreigon, Excadrill, Scizor, or even some weirder picks like Shuckle, Xatu, or Bastiodon. However, my personal pick would be Palossand and have it play as a trapper that controls space by building fortifications to slow down the enemy. What other fighting game could you say that you can play as a sandcastle?

    • @GohLow
      @GohLow  Před 5 měsíci +1

    I’m definitely biased here but I’d LOVE to see Gallade make it into CC. He’s pretty much always a fragile setup sweeper in actual Pokemon, so I feel like that’d translate well into making him a glass cannon sort of character. Plus, it’d be super cool to see his blade arms in action

  • @elemangell2981
    @elemangell2981 Před 5 měsíci +4

    I already got my dream game design pick of Falinks in, so for another off the wall idea, I want to see Gallade, but specifically designed around the way modern players have been using it as a premier catching Pokemon with access to False Swipe and status moves.
    Its game plan could revolve around keeping opponents away with weak, mildly disjointed normals and temporarily debilitating them with Will-O-Wisp, Thunder Wave, or Hypnosis depending on the situation. That'd give you breathing room to set up Swords Dances, buffing up a normally pitiful False Swipe into potentially the most powerful attack in the game, CHUNKING the opponents health bar, but resetting to neutral and always leaving them at 1HP, still requiring you to skillfully get in and finish the job.

    • @GohLow
      @GohLow  Před 5 měsíci +2

  • @ILikeKirbys
    @ILikeKirbys Před 5 měsíci +1

    I could see Steelix working as a sort of big-body zoner with a downward headbutt 5A that hits high, an upward tail-jab 4A that lowers Steelix to dodge jumpins, a forward headbutt 6A that is fairly quick but misses most grounded opponents, a tail-sweep 2A that hits low, hits most of the length of the screen (lowering Steelix in the process) and knocks down, and an up-forward headbutt 3A that is a little slower than 2A but hits roughly that distance while going about to the middle of the screen vertically to catch people trying to jump over a sweep. Being so heavy, large and serpentine would render Steelix unable to jump like everyone else, so instead it could dig underground as a pseudo-teleport to replace jumps (do 8>1/2/3 like a reverse-superjump to dig backward, a short distance forward or a long distance forward. Pressing A before resurfacing would have Steelix flail about as it surfaces, hitting low in a wide area around it and knocking down, and pressing 8A would corkscrew up while resurfacing to hit a very vertical area around where it comes up and launch upward for a follow-up attack; both of these would leave Steelix vulnerable if blocked). Steelix's 5B would be Iron Tail, flipping upward with an overhead tail-slap that hits a very large area, knocks down and goes over low attacks but is slow and unsafe unless it hits near the tip of the tail, and 4/6B would also be Iron Tail but with a forward hop for additional reach or a backward hop to retreat with a big hitbox. 2B would be Smack Down throwing a rock upward that falls to the ground about a half-screen away (1/3B would fall closer/further). EX specials would be 8>2B using Earthquake as a full-screen low that knocks down, and 2>8B using Rock Slide to throw some rocks in an area roughly between Steelix and 2B distance to apply pressure or for a very painful combo (ie. rocks, then 5A or 2A; the opponent fails to block the mixup and gets hit by rocks for considerable damage, or successfully blocks the mixup but rocks keep you safe). Super would be Heavy Slam, in which Steelix stands upright and then falls forward, hitting high, hitting basically everywhere because Steelix is large and knocking down.
    Can't come up with anything I like for Kingler or Venomoth right now, it's late here and I need sleep. Maybe I'll come back to this tomorrow.
    Unrelated to that, this made me try Close Combat for myself between attempts to make fighting-game-Steelix a thing, and it's been fun (plus it runs very well on my ancient computer, which is nice). Spent an hour beating Gorochu with Blaziken (which was, indeed, tough, but it did teach me that parrying is important 'cause I would never have won without parry>6A>6B), now I need to try out the rest of the cast and see who speaks to me (kinda liking Bewear, though that might just be 'cause it's cute), and see if I can get the online working. So, thanks.

He's a puppet fighter and theres many of those, the more direct examples are Jack-O from Guilty Gear Strive and Pom from Them Fighting Herds, both of those characters work in the same way as Falinks placing minions in the battlefield and controlling them from a distance.

    I want Urshifu as a stance character. They would switch to and from their fast combo heavy Rapid Strike Style, and their slower heavy hitting Single Strike Style. For some aside from that gimmick I imagine them fighting similarly to Hit from Fighterz.
    Another option I want to see is Iron Valiant. This is mainly because we have a Past Paradox Pokémon, so I hope we get a Future Paradox Pokémon to balance it out. As for the move set…just make it a mix of Zero and Virgil from Marvel vs Capcom and I’ll be happy.
    My other options I would love to see are Buzzwole, Slither Wing, Koraidon, Medicham, and Conkeldurr.

    Boss characters like that tend to really annoy me, so probably not going to be able to vote. Kind of crazy they don't already have Lucario.
    I'd like to see Corviknight since I love its design but Legends Arceus is the only mainline Switch game I acknowledge/have, plus a flier who stays flying would be an interesting design challenge. It's also why I'd like to see Rayquaza pull a Ridley and go from Subspace boss to playable character in Smash. The obvious way to make it work would just make them fly low to the ground, but maybe you could go really weird and also make it so they only need to/can block mids, they're immune to lows, and can't block high. Actually might work better if they can block high/mid but not with same guard, the equivalent to crouch guard becomes only way to block mid while 'standing' guard blocks high. Eelektross or other levitate Pokémon could also pull off that gimmick.
    For the question of jumping obviously they'd fly/levitate higher, but there'd need to be some limit to force engagement, meter feels like the obvious quick solution. I'm a ways off from making my own FG but I should make a note of these.
    In terms of just liking the Pokémon with no specific design ideas attached, I'd love to see Swampert in.

      @GohLow  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I thought G. Zapdos was like an Emu or Ostrich where it's still a bird but it's not a flier? That's the impression I got from the design and footage in the video, but haven't actually played Gens 8-9. Either way you're right that having to do the same hard concept in different ways can lead to some interesting designs.

    One Pokemon I would love to see the most is Arbok. Yeah, it's a Poison-type, but more importantly, it's a snake. He used to be a major antagonist in the anime series, originally belonging to Jessie of Team Rocket before he was let go in the episode "A Poached Ego" of the Advanced Generation arc. He has no limbs, but it can still attack by using his tail, body, and head with its especially sharp and poisonous fangs.
    The other thing is that, quite frankly, we don't often see snakes or serpents as playable characters in fighting games, if at all. The only ones I know of off the top of my head are Slither from Eternal Champions and Cuddles from Them's Fightin' Herds; the former a secret character, the latter a non-playable boss. To be able to actually play as a snake in a fighting game would be such a cool thing to see, and I have lots of ideas for Arbok. If only I could talk to you more about this, being both a fan of Pokemon and fighting games, particularly Marvel vs. Capcom.
    I really have to give the developers of Pokemon: Close Combat huge props for the character designs and limitless potential and possibilities with them.
