    I can relate -.- I have so many books that I've started, then put aside to read something else I was in the mood to read. Then by the time I feel like going back to one I already forgot everything and have to restart, but get distracted by YET AGAIN another book that grabs my attention.

      So sorry to hear about your mom passing away. I know what that's like, as my step dad passed away and I lost interest in a lot of things afterwards. Actually the reason I started a booktube channel later on was to help cope with that, and it's helped me a lot over the years! Omg and Game of Thrones was also a book I read halfway through but ended up putting down for some reason. I'm still interested in the series, so I'll have to just restart it at some point or another :P

    I am a mood reader too but I kind of set up a structure for myself? I read a YA Fantasy Novel, then a more realistic fiction/contemporary one or horror or poetry book and then back to Fantasy. This helps me not mix up series or worlds as easily and accounts for my mood swings with reading!

    This sums up my 'normal' reading behavior perfectly. Once in a while I can just plow through a book, but I am such a mood reader that if I don't stop, it tends to effect my interest in the book. People always ask why I have so many books I am working on at once but it is all because my mood and interest in the moment keeps changing. And yes to every one of the problems and reaction you mentioned!

    YES!!!!!!!!!
    If you are not 100% feelin it, dont try - or continue! The timing is either wrong, i'm in a book hangover and need a break for my brain to process the last one, or its just not right for me.
    I think its an intuition thing. I keep thinking im in the mood for something (surface feelings) when its actually off and I should listen to my instincts/gut-feeling/deeper feeling. I hate taking a break from reading even for a day - sometimes if I switch to an audiobook its okay, but mostly my brain needs space to be myself, without being lost in someone else's world for a moment.
    I just have to accept if a book wont vibe with me, and never read it, despite how shiny it might have appeared at one point, otherwise it will grate across me the whole time (for no good reason). You captured the struggle.

    Definitely me!) I hate that mood, when you found a book that you've wanted to read, but you are NOT IN THE MOOD. And then it just seats somewhere on your bookshelves and you are passing it for years. But my "favourite" kind of situation is when you started the book, and it's good, and interesting, and... You read a few chapters, then put it back to the shelf and in a month you want to come back to reading.....but you don't remember anything! Oh, hate that situation. And I hated being a mood reader for some time, bit now I love the way I read books - it's hard, but funny at the same time))

    I didn't know mood reading was a thing until a few weeks ago when another booktuber explained it, and ever since then I'm finding it harder to finish my nonfiction books because I'm now conscious that I'm perpetually in the mood for fiction 😪

  • @GaiaSteinbuch
    @GaiaSteinbuch Před 6 lety

    This video is quite relatable! I'm a mood reader too. I usually do manage to push through to finish a book if the book isn't too long, but if I buy (or am gifted) a book it can be ages until I'm in the mood to read it (also because I have a lot of unread books). I often pre-order books I'm really excited for, and then when it's release day I often find myself just not in the mood for that type of book, so it stays on my shelf for a while. I can't make monthly TBRs as I know I never stick to them. I usually decide my next read once I've finished my previous read. The exceptions to that: are 1) when I've got library loans, those take priority as they have to be read before my owned books, so in that case I have to choose my next read from my remaining library loans, and 2) once a month I hold my own read-a-thon (for me and some friends) for a few days, in which I read specific books (lately graphic novels, graphic memoirs and manga), I usually make a TBR for this beforehand and manage to stick to it (but it's only a few days, and usually consists of the series I'm currently reading as well as any unread graphic works I've purchased recently that I haven't read yet).
    I've been re-reading a long book, that I loved when I first read it, but I find myself only in the mood for it sporadically, and so progress has been slow over the past few months (it's over 1000 pages, and I think I'm at page 280ish). That said, because I've read it before, it's less hard to remember what has been going on.
    I really don't like it when friends keep asking me if I've read a specific favourite of theirs yet. A book is so much more enjoyable when I'm in just the right mood for it, and so hard to get through when I'm really not in the mood for it. I much prefer to wait until I'm in the right mood for the book, and I really don't like it if a friend keeps asking me about whether I've read the book yet, and then I have to disappoint them every time. I admit I have started books because people kept asking, but I usually find I don't enjoy it as much then as I would have, had I been in the right mood for it.
    I'm sorry you struggle so much with this :(. I would like to be able to make a monthly TBR or stuff like that, I'm a planning in lots of areas of my life, but I can't do buddy-reads very well or read-a-thons with themes or things like that, because I'm often not in the right mood for specific genres or books.

    What I find ultimately sucks with being a mood reader is when you have to read a book for school, because you are never in the mood to read it. Then you end up being in the mood to read it THE DAY AFTER the assignment for it was due, and you no longer have the book.

    wanting a sequel and then not feeling it when it comes out is definitely something that happens to me way too many times. Also, reading a book and stopping and then not feeling it anymore when you pick it up again after months.

    I RELATE SO MUCH TO THIS! Ive been in the biggest slump for like a year now, all because whenever i start a book i feel like its not GOOD and i stop reading, despite it being really popular and having great reviews. then i realised, maybe its just me and i was right. this has been fucking me up so much and im so happy i saw this video because i thought it was only me

  • @bluekitten982

    I don't even create a TBR because I pick books up to read like I breathe air. I have 8 "currently reading" on my Goodreads shelf, plus I just started a book last night. Being a mood reader is hard, but I love it because it means that when I do get back to an old book I end up enjoying it.

  • @blujeans7825
    @blujeans7825 Před 6 lety

    So relatable, I have serious book commitment issues when I go through this phase and I'll often get distracted very quickly with a book because I'll start it thinking 'THIS IS THE BOOK THAT WILL BREAK THE SPELL', and then I see something else I'm more in the mood for and ditch my magic book.. it's a shame reading a book takes longer than my mood episodes

  • @dorishunter-carrion6406

    I 100% relate to this, I am the moodiest reader! I even went so far as to start categorizing books by mood on my website... thanks for helping me laugh at myself :)

    I was nodding my head as well! This is 100% me... I’m actually reading 5 books right now and I haven’t finished several that I need to get back to. I hate it when I’m so into a book and then get distracted with a different book and start reading that one. It’s how I’m reading 5 at the moment. I’ll also read a book, get through until the middle and then get bored and put it off. My room is a Library at the moment with books like this.

  • @alexandriaceballos1938

    I can totally relate, because I feel certain emotions when I read. Happy, sad, and angry.

    This was so relatable!!! The ones i related to the most was when u wait for a sequel and once the sequel comes out, ur not in the mood for it 😭🤦🏻‍♀️ that was me with lord of shadows! It took me about 4 months after i got it to finally read it 😂 and when ur friend requests their favorite book! So relatable! I actually still have one of my friends books from 6th grade and im a sophomore now 😂😅 oops.

  • @thebookdweller5462
    @thebookdweller5462 Před 6 lety

    I can totally relate to that. I'm also a mood reader and often books end up on my currently reading list and stay there for a looong period of time simply because I don't feel like reading it. And I never really have any TBRs for myself only suggestions what I could read e.g. this summer but I know I will probably read one or two and the rest will be completely different. The only thing I do manage is to read borrowed books once I have started them as there is always this voice inside my head reminding me that I have to return it
    Thanks for the video loved it :)

    THIS IS SO RELATABLE. i always start so many books and then i let that pile sit next to my bed, judging me, so this month i decided i wouldn't start another book until i finished all the ones i've started. it's going great because i only have 2 books to read, and then i can start others. also the sequel thing?? me all the time and i hate it. loved this video 💕

    That friend part is so true! My friend lent me a stack of books I said I wanted to read and I’ve only read one book out of that stack. I have no idea when I’m going to get to the rest of it. Good thing she doesn’t live far from me so I can take my time.
