I absolutely hate when they don't number books in a series! The amount of times I've had to google the order of a series is just sad.

Yes exactly, I always have to check out Goodreads because it numbers books and is the most reliable, as it also gives a summary since all new books only have praises and PDFs or audiobooks don't really say anything

Or when the library only has book #1 of a series and you have to inter library loan the rest...then when you do that the 4th book comes before the 2nd and 3rd (I'm still waiting on the 3rd book a week and a half later....hoping I get the call in the next few hours because if it comes in tomorrow I won't be able to get it until Monday....and I'm almost done with book #2)

Habiba Malik Same!! I bought Frozen Tides and Crystal Storm together on amazon, both from the same publisher and both paperbacks, but Crystal Storm is SO MUCH bigger, like what the hell Razorbill? You ever heard of consistency?
And I especially hate it, when the writing on the spine of a series isn't the same size or in the same position. So when you have them together on your shelf, the spine of one book just pops out because it's wrong. I mean, didn't they have the old measurements??

One blank page is nothing compared to the "great" idea a publisher thought of last Christmas. There was a book, which they wanted to be a part of the Christmas sale, but the book wasn't ready yet, so what they did was they printed the first chapter in the book and left ALL the other pages blank and the idea was that you could buy the unfinished book and inside we (the employees) would make a giftcard and put it in a little plastic folder on the back of the front cover. Then when the full book came out you could come in and exchange the giftcard for the full book.
That was ridiculous and a total waste of resources! They wanted to see how it went with that book and maybe use the method with other books aswell.
My boss refused to put our copies on the shelves. Luckily we haven't seen anything like that since.

#1 Pet Peeve: When I have to literally go on a quest to FIND the book's title on the cover! It's either super tiny, and squished to the side, or the author's name takes up more space than the title itself!
#2 Pet Peeve: Those jagged edges...WHY DO THEY EXIST?! I want to rub my hands down the smooth pages, not potentially stab myself with paper!
#3 Pet Peeve: Those blank pages at the end that give you hope that there's more to the book, but NOPE! Just existing for the sake of taunting me! I have to flip through each one to just make sure that the author hasn't added a secret extra page!

One of my biggest pet peeves is when the dust jacket wasn't cut right, and so a part of the back of the dust jacket shows on the part that covers the spine. It isn't lined up right. It looks terrible and has stopped me from buying the book before because I just can't stand to look at anything that isn't lined up properly. Do you get what I mean? It's like the one who did the cutting or folding just didn't care about where the folds go or anything like that. And you can't just fold it to fit, cause there are creases already in the paper! Makes me so mad! It's happened a few times on paperbacks too, but not as often.

I hate that, too! I've only seen this on english books, though. My german books have perfectly fitting dust jackets, but my english copies of The Raven King and the ADSOM trilogy are just way too big, there is so much space between book and dust jacket. Three bookish pet peeves of mine:
    1. when, halfway through the series, the paper used for the cover changes and now I have three books with regular covers and two with slick, smooth covers
    2. when the first few books of the series have been adapted into films and used the posters as covers but the latter ones in the series are still un-adapted and they're all the same goddamn edition so everything gets mixed up
    3. when you start reading a series, it goes out of print in your native language and you have to read the rest in another language

It's like in board games when it lets you skip some of the fields. I love it. I also love when at the end of a chapter there's like only a few lines on the page and then it skips to the next for the next chapter. Free progress!
