Honestly really enjoyed this it made me smile and it was filmed so well. You two are great, keep up the good work ❤
Thank you so much! Will have a new video in the next couple of week!
Baptism of fire 🔥
You two made the right decision to turn back. When Google or someone tells you just how long it will take you to reach a certain point (when wild camping) one has to take into account a number of points. 1) the fitness factor 2) the weight of the pack 3) the terrain, hilly, flat, etc.4) the weather. fine, raining, high winds. When someone says, " it's only an hour" think of those 4 points. and you may be surprised at just how long it can take beyond what the person may have told you. As a guide and bushcraft instructor for 50+ years, and still out there doing it, I have seen many people in your situation and have had to rescue them or assist them. Unlike you who had the good sense to turn back. Always try out the tent in the back yard, don't go blindly up a mountain not knowing the strength of your equipment. When I buy a tent, I put it up in the garden and leave it there for 4 to 5 days in the rain and master its erection as fast as I can do it. On a mountain top in strong winds (and there is no turning back), it may cost you your life. So far this year I have been tramping (hiking) 33 times and in all sorts of weather, and had to turn back, as the weather was even too hard for me to manage, this is not seemingly to brag, but just to show that no matter how experienced one might be, one can still get caught out. Don't let this wet trip turn you off, get back out there and do it again and again and the experience and wisdom will fall in to place. Have a check list and this will prevent you from forgetting things (maybe) Watching you video, I thought to myself, "this is going to end in hypothermia or Boddy bags, but thankfully you turned back. Sorry for turning this into a book just trying to impart a little of my knowledge to you Enjoyed the video ATB Cheers from the mountains of NZ ☺☺
Wow a lot of information to unpack there! Thanks for taking your time to type out that message to us. Will make sure to check the tent before our next hike and looking forward now more than ever to get back out there and actually complete an over night! New vids coming soon, so if you're interested, hit the subscribe! Cheers
absolutely loved watching this thank u for taking us on ur journey
Glad you enjoyed it! 😎
I’ve been wild camping for years, in all conditions, mountain downpours and local storms and the most important lesson to learn is when to ditch the idea and head back to safety! The only tip I could give you is go wild camping closer to home or in a Forrest to get used to it and find out things you need and don’t need and then try the mountains because the mountains are a whole new level and they really aren’t forgiving! I really enjoyed this video! Keep it up! Stay safe and happy hiking 💪
so envious of you being able to just go with the flow and enjoy the ride. Visited the UK a few years ago with my mum and took her to the Lake District....such a lovely area . Can't wait to go with you on your journeys
Thank you mate! Got to remember it could always be worse. Agreed, it's a beautiful area. Thanks for the comment.

Liked and subbed 👍👍👍 I hope your channel grows, good luck guys 👍
Much appreciated! We have a trip coming up this weekend, so should be a new video coming soon!!
You did great.
Thank You!
Amazing video cant wait for your next one!
Coming soon!
Love your honesty. There's no shame in turning back and I wouldn't call it a fail. Training and learning is what it is.
Tips I could give you.
Put your tent up and down in garden. Then at night.
Put a carabiner on a guy line and clip it to your pack before you pitch.
Always have a plan b.
I don't belive you had to turn back. You can always down drop and pitch up as long as your out of sight you will be fine.
And if at all possible go for a day out first and hike reccy your wild camp location. Know where your going before you get there or at least know the terrain. Always leave no trace. And have fun. Which I can see you guys already do.
And buy some new pegs, unless you have a high end tent the pegs will be pants. Msr ground hogs, Easton nail, or a few delta pegs. And guy lines as long as they will go.
You probably already know this. But enjoy your adventures.
Wow, lots of tips there and I'll try to take on board as much of them as possible. We deffo have fun, and as we get more experienced we will be able to push our selves further but at the moment, better safe than sorry.
Sick bro keep up the good work
Thanks! Will do!
love this video mate
Glad you enjoyed
First time for everything... but above everything.. take care of yourself and your GF.. no long trecherous hikes.. just small easy ones in the beginning... later on you can do more stressful ones easily. you'll be gaining experiences you want... thats a skill too.
Regards from Singapore, GOD bless.
great advice.. we have actually visited Singapore.. love the singlish lah. Haha!
You did the right thing. Putting the tent up quickly on a crap day is crucial to your health. Great couple.
Entertaining.
Thank you so much for your kind words and understanding! We really appreciate your support. It was definitely a challenging experience, but we learned the importance of prioritizing our health and safety. Your encouragement means a lot to us. If you have any tips or suggestions for our next adventure, we'd love to hear them! Stay tuned for more exciting content!
@@Tomexplores_ Try a forest or woods without a tent. Use a tarp to keep dry and don't make any fires.
Brilliant videos. Just discovered your channel and loved the honesty and warts an all content. Watching you learn is quite fascinating. Please keep them coming. Well done 👍
V proud bro❤️
Thanks bro ❤️
everyone has to start somewhere so glad your not beating yourselfs up by having to turn back-it was the right thing to do.also-you two seem to be a good laugh and i wanna see more of your trips so gonna subscribe.once your content gets seen more, watch your channel grow ! happy days 💯💯👍👍
thank you! we had a good time anyway so mind.. theres always next time! :)
Wow! You guys are mental!! But I admired your wise decision to turn back. Although you have to plan your trips properly beforehand and be sure that you can pitch your new tent beforehand as the weather can kick your butt, as you both learned the hard way. Fair play to you both for going for it and for starting your new channel. I'll be watching in the future to watch you both grow and learn just how to wild camp and to grow your subs, too! Good luck, and God bless. P.s. Keswick is pronounced as the S with a Z, and the W is silent!! Kez- ick Lol 😂❤
Haha heard this a few times about the pronunciation of Keswick! Just like everything else, got to start somewhere! Thanks for the support :)
Your “ps” made me Lol 😂
Sick man! Keep it up
Thanks man!
I was getting quite concerned for Mel. Absolutely 100% the right decision to turn back 👍
Deffo right to turn around! 😊 well done for trying! Fab first vid 👌 we've just had our first wild camp and wow the weather turned on us in the night haha! 😂
You got to start somewhere! Did you enjoy it despite the weather?
@@Tomexplores_ loved every min! 👌😅
Hi guys, this made me laugh so much but not at you in a bad way but in the way you just said f it lets just do it. I like the car set up, if it works it works. Dont even bother looking at a weather forcast in the lakes. I once walked up a valley in the lakes and as I aproachd the end I saw a storm moving toward me but it just hugged one side of the valley and then dissapeared over the ridge. so unless you can read weather, wind, terrain and all that then just expect it to be wet up there. You did the right thing in coming back because you were not familliar with the land so good on you for doing that. My final thing to say is this... if you don't make mistakes then you will never learn so keep doing this if you love it. keep making these mistakes because it will make you grow so much. x
Thanks! And couldn't agree more! All these mistakes we make, we learn from and come back stronger!
Well Tom and Mel, that was fun. I admire your honesty and the humble admission of your lack of skill and experience when it comes to wild camping. Even so, this was a tremendous vid, very funny and also very informative cos you made people aware of what they should be doing as a result of your learning curve. You will only improve and enjoyment is sure to follow your adventures. Thanks a lot you two. Take care out there and don’t be too long with the next one!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the kind words! It's all a learning curve and it's so fun to learn! We all have to take our very first step when starting something new before we can do anything else!
My first wildcamp was in the cairngorms beside caringorm in Scotland in Autumn with a Wildcountry Mistel 3 season tent. It got flattened in a storm with 80mph forecast winds. Wildountry washed their hads of it saying that no tent can withstand these winds. Since then got 7 Hillebrg tents, 2 Aktos, Soulo, Nallo, Nammatj, Tarra, Anjan 2. Starting with the Tarra, one of their strongest , selling now for £1500. but he highest winds I was in since then were 90mph forcast winds in the Akto single person tent.
Rather than wildcamping with a dog like many youtubers, you brought a pretty girl.
In a nice way. That's hilarious. Just the sort of thing that I'd do. Keep it up and don't give in. :-)
Haha! Glad you enjoyed it! And thanks for the support.
Awesome video! Loved the adventure!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video Tom, England including the Lake District is green for a reason, it rains a lot! Keep em videos coming! Liked and Subscribed
Haha yes! Hopefully next time we can learn from this experience and manage it next time, as you said.. it rains a lot in England so need to learn how to deal with it at some point!
Kudos for trying to camp that weekend!! A mate and I were supposed to be wild camping on the same weekend but booked into a hotel! 🤣 We did do a couple of very wet walks tho!
Don't blame you haha!
Hey from Canada i am always skiing or hiking in the Rockies ( Jasper AB)
Hey dude :)
Good effort guys
Thank you!
Well done guys ur only get stronger
Thank you!!
Good video, was good to see you had a crack and realised it wasn't the best idea to continue and turned back, always better to be safe than sorry if something goes bad. Hopefully your next adventure will be a success.
Cheers from Australia
You're right mate, we're pretty determined to make a success out of the next adventure, so keep tuned! Thanks
Im thinking of doing wild camping and channels like this are great.
Top vid buddy👍👍👍
You should go for it, our next attempt is going to be in woodlands as I think it's a bit more beginner friendly.. worth thinking about for you too!
Enjoyed this video Tom. Look forward to following you. Sensible decision to abandon the bike. Best wishes from Cornwall
Thanks 👍
Hey guys, great video. I think your video sends out a really powerful message that don't let pride get in the way of making sensible decisions when out on the hill. Kudos to you both. Really refreshing actually.
thank you! We agree, you gotta make the right call out there
Loved this! you just went for it and lived. You guys come across so well on camera and very honest. Even a car camp is a camp. will be watching your next one!
Thanks so much!!
Well done Tom and your girl Mel, I know how tough outdoors can be, I am in my 60,s mid, you are both a fresh air, I wish my grandchildren get the outdoor bug one girl 15 and boy 12 , I hope so, well done both good luck.
Thanks a lot Peter! I'm sure your grandchildren will catch it, maybe with a bit of encouragement from there grandad ;) They are still so young though.
A really heartwarming video. A pleasure to watch your adventures. Great effort for a first attempt too. Good filming and links. Well done.
Glad you enjoyed it! And thanks for the kind comments :)
I find running or hiking up hills in the rain ponchos are better than rain gear
Keswick lovely place
Ah thanks for the tip, will have to try it out at some point
Ponchos are more breathable than rain jackets just tie some rope if it's really windy
If you don't like ponchos try army surplus goretex jacket with pitzips
Great first video. Had me smiling all the way through. Totally the right call to turn round, I was worried you were missing the bag of pegs😂 Looking forward to your next adventure.
Glad you enjoyed it! More to come soon.
Hi guys what a great video so loved it , I'm used to doing 2000 plus miles, But in your short video you made all the right decisions , especially turning back. Im sure if you had made it you would have both been so pleased but if it had gone the other way it may have destroyed you sense of fun and adventure. Well done to you both. Like Mel i hike with out a rain jacket only putting it on when i get cold (more of a windbreak ). Im off to the lakes next week, never hiked in the uk before even thou i live here
once again great video.
thanks!! We still had a great time! Hope you enjoyed the lakes!
Great first video - and a real baptism of fire. You should've parked in or nearer to Keswick (pronounced Kezzick) but a brilliant effort, well done. Atb
Sure was! Thanks for the tips, every trips a lesson.
Good choice to turn back, its a great hill, and would of been a bad night and no benefit of the views, start on a lower hill, some great lower ones with better access for parking and views, good luck with your next adventure
Thanks for the tips! Determined to get full night done next time!
@@Tomexplores_ have a back up spot planned for if the weather is bad, not sure if you can pm on here, I could give you a couple of spots where you get views and can be sheltered from bad winds
Blimey guys! Can't believe how you kept smiling through that.
You needed to turn back if only for the sake of Mel. Hypothermia was looking likely.
My advice would be to do your first wild camp with only a small walk of a couple of hours.
Keswick is pronounced Kesick..
Great video; nice people.
Thanks a lot for your kind words! Honestly Mel never stops laughing and smiling, it's one of the things I love the most about her! We are doing exactly that for our next trip.. a short walk into the woods, a bit more sheltered from the elements. so hopefully can manage a full night this time. Thanks for the tip about Keswick.
Great vid hope you make more guys.........Always better to turn back in that type of weather being cold and wet all night is not worth it. Good decision.
Thanks a lot for watching and for your positive feedback! We completely agree with you - safety always comes first, and it was definitely the right call to turn back. We'll definitely keep making more videos and adventures, so stay tuned for more! If you have any ideas or places you'd like to see us explore next, feel free to let us know.
The right decision guys, but you made the effort to do something you’ve never done before. Try again, you’ll learn each time you go out 😄 Preparation is everything, check the weather forecast, make a list of what you need to take etc.
Hope so! Every time we've gone out now we've learnt so much!
Wise decision 👍🏼
One of the most important thing NHS is to stay dry, getting wet can be lethal when wild camping.
definitely!
you sound like you from nottingham but your lass sounds like she's from mansfield! crack vid tho mate lessons learnt because every day is a school day
How is it a wild camp when you spent the night in your car and ate in a cafe lol? I enjoyed the vid nonetheless. You are bubbly pretty people. Doesn't seem like you've ever pitched your tent or checked your air mattress inflates. Maybe. bit of garden camping to get used to your kit before the next adventure. You might be surprised how uncomfortable most kit is until you've actually slept in it.
The title 'Went to a cafe and slept in car' doesn't have the same ring to it, and being as we attempted the wild camp, I think the title is close enough. We're just learning as we go and having fun with it. Some things might seem like common sense to you, but we have to learn from our mistakes.
@@Tomexplores_ Well, I'm sure you'll get a following because you both have a nice vibe and the videography is very good. I'll be one of your first fans, The only failure is in not trying ect.
@@CazSmith Thank You! One thing I can promise you is, we will make more mistakes.. but we will learn and get better. Thanks for the support!
@@Tomexplores_ Your videos have already got a certain magic to them that many very experienced wild camp videos don't have. It's to do with the way you film, the camera angles, the shots, the composition and of course, the people in front of the camera. Make your mistakes, when you tighten up your back packing skills you'll have a very good hiking channel. Good luck, just don't expect me not to take the p when you do daft things haha.
totallllly the right decision. Live to fight another day
You said it mate! Better a failed attempt than your last attempt!
10 out of 10 for effort and ignoring the no camping signs....it wrong for any body to restrict our pleasure as long as it does not cause harm to another....peace
Couldn't agree more mate! Not disturbing anybody! Thanks for the comment.
@@Tomexplores_ Wait till the rangers wake you up at 3 in the morning lol. Pack up and piss off in 15 minutes then spend an hour following you in their Landy.
i've had to bail on plenty of camps no shame on doing the sensible thing
You're right, better to be safe than sorry!
Rain = UK 😂😂
You got that right!! Hahahah
